The fifty cities that were indexed were based on the importance of them in a specific region. The cities selected from the US were all in the top 20, with just one making it in the top ten. The indexing was done based on these four categories: Personal Safety: This took into account the illegal activity along with the nature of the crime. No US city featured in the top ten. Health Security: This category included things related to health. Factors like life expectancy and the ratio of hospitals were included. This category was dominated by European cities due to the fewer population density. Zurich was no 1 with New York the only American city in the top ten, placed at the second spot.
