  • Telecommunication

  • What is Telecommunication? The process of transmitting or receiving information over a distance by any electrical or electromagnetic medium is known as Telecommunication. Information may take the form of voice, video, or data Medium: Copper Wire, Twisted pair, Optical fibre cable,RF, Co-Axial cable.Eg: Landphone, Voip Phones, Internet over broadband

  • Telecom Technologies / EvolutionPublic Switch Telephony Network (PSTN) 1870's

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) late 1980's

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Voice is broken into packets Late 1990's Eg: Google Talk, Skype etc

  • PSTNPSTN stands for Public Switched Telephone Network. It is also known as POTS (Plain Old Telephone System). It is simply the oldest and Largest worldwide telephone network. It carries analog data/signal through copper lines at a speed of 64 KBPS.Voice and Data are the two basic services supported over PSTN.Example:- Telephone Call Service, FAX.

  • PSTN

  • PSTN network topology

  • Devices that can be connected to PSTN n/w's are telephone connection(Land Line), Fax, PC, Cordless Phone etc

Copper Pair: Copper line that used to connect the Devices and Local Exchange.

Transport Network: A Network which is interconnected connected through circuits in local exchange's. Routing of all calls are done through these telephone exchanges.

  • ISDNISDN is replacing our old analog phones.Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is fully digital telephone service, providing data, voice, and video channels over the existing phone network. It is the easy way how to transmit voice and data simultaneously at the same time using an andvantages of a digital communication.

    Popular ISDN applications include:

Internet access Remote access to corporate computing Video conferencing Small and home office data networking

  • ISDN Devices / Elements

Devices : ISDN Fax, ISDN Phone, PC with ISDN card, LapTop, Non ISDN Fax.Network Terminator : Terminal adapter: Used to conect non ISDN Devices Different ways of connections to NT:-1. Point To Point2. S-Bus 200 M3. Extended S-Bus 500 M Power Supply: Connector: Twisted Pair

  • Pros & ConsISDN offers much more than the old analog phone line. Big advantage of this service is compatibility with phone lines. It is more stable for data transmitting, faster in establishing a connection and give us faster transferring speed in due to analog devices Disadvantage of ISDN could be initial costs for you (ISDN devices) and still not so low monthly flat fee, but massive increasing of digital services give us a chance to make it cheaper.

  • VoIPVoice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line.

Some VoIP services may only allow you to call other people using the same service, but others may allow you to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers.

Also, while some VoIP services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, other services allow you to use a traditional phone connected to a VoIP adapter.
