Telcos & You Developer
Madrid, June 1st 2013
Telcos are not evil, they just need to adapt to a new world.
Are telcos EVIL ?
YES! Global reach, common use enablers…VOICE, MESSAGING…etc
Do they have great stuff to offer to you?
The BAD NEWS is…NO
Are telcos offering enablers properly?
First steps…Parlay, etc were not for developers. Not a language for developers
Did telcos offered enablers properly?
Oops !!!!
Are telcos offering enablers properly?
The GOOD NEWS is…they are learning and walking the first right steps to engage developers
Are telcos offering enablers properly?
Telcos starRng to approach properly
New “telcos” appeared using telco enablers for person to use case applicaRon (A2P). REST API easy to be used by 3rd parRes. Disruptors
HOW?
NO! they are A2P telcos and also are partnering with tradiRonal telcos to share their best approach to engage the developer ecosystem
Are new A2P telcos only telcos?
Are new A2P telcos only telcos?
Everything invented in Telco API?
not really, a new IP rich messaging enabler is coming: RCS
Everything invented in Telco API?
chat, group chat, file transfer, locaRon push, video-‐sharing
Oops….properly exposed as REST…
YES, it will be great, lots of use cases, we pioneered this
as a pla^orm
And it would mean….?
CommunicaRng with services in the same way you communicate with people…
And it would mean….?
It worked with limited service as SMS…with a rich mulRmedia messaging…YES, a blue ocean
The boring side J , a bit of how & architecture
If communicaRon capabiliRes can be used as internet API, they will be used.
Solaiemes approach is to expose telco capabiliRes from outside the SBC, as UNI (user to network interface), it means infrastructure instancing “virtual clients” managed by REST/SOAP API becoming services o alternaRve access to the telco capability.
The external skin of the telco must avoid telco tatoos as SIP, MSRP, etc… it should be easy to use REST API.
Friendly Telco Border
How we solve the pain for telcos?

RCS/joyn 3rd API Exposure
Ubiquity, API based joyn clients for Web, WebRTC, Firefox OS,
Smart TV
Openness, A2P, P2A, M2P, CRM cases
created with the API
Also offered as Cloud based architecture
The API exposure pla^orm is in the cloud (public or private) as the pla^orm only needs connecRvity to P-‐CSCF or SBC, just as device clients
Full cloud RCS-‐e core + REST API exposure, currently Solaiemes has interoperated with a RCS-‐e core in the cloud vendor this architecture
the interesRng side J , the use cases
A2P – P2A, CommunicaRng People with Services & Brands : CRM, adverRsement, etc
OPENNESS: API to create interacRve Services
M2P, communicaRng people and things
Mash-‐Up Cases, Internet tools as joyn Combining content API & joyn API
Ader mobile web & apps, a 3rd way to create services: the phonebook is the service-‐hub, service contacts
New alternaRve user interacRons
Smart TV
UBIQUITY: API expand across all screens
WebRTC unified communicaRons
Firefox OS
Solaiemes is providing dev tools to test the interacRve services created with the API.
Developer friendly testbed environment
FUTURE, in the API world everyone has role
Future is a mash-‐up of APIs
Telco API enables global reach communicaRon channel
Future is a mash-‐up of APIs
To understand what you are texRng semanRc API will be required
Future is a mash-‐up of APIs
To access to public info available via APIs
Future is a mash-‐up of APIs
Understanding the user behaviour to improve the user experience using analyRcs APIs
Future is a mash-‐up of APIs
