12" X 96" Chilled Beams

Active chilled beams are ceiling mounted heat exchangers that use a low-pressure primary airsupply to induce warm room air across its chilled water coil to remove heat from the space. The now cooled room air is then mixed with the primary air supply and delivered back into the space via the beams discharge slots. As the chilled water is above the room dew point, no condensate is required as only sensible cooling is provided. Should there be a heating demand, hot water can be pumped through the coil to warm the induced room air. As water has a higher heat capacity than air, the volume of water needed to achieve the cooling demand is significantly smaller than the volume of air needed on the traditional all-air system. Less energy is used at the primary plant to produce and distribute this chilled water as compared to cooled air. Fresh air is needed to meet the ventilation requirements, control the latent gains and drive the chilled beams induction, however, as this air is not sized to meet the cooling demand, major savings on ductwork can be achieved. With no moving parts, a filter or power supply, active chilled beams only need periodic cleaning and therefore when combined with the energy savings of using chilled water rather than cooled air, can

considerably reduce the system operating and maintenance costs. DID301 and 302-US-TZ’s can effectively integrate into high-performance HVAC operational plans designed to enhance a project’s LEED™ rating.

Beam DescriptionThe TROX DID301-US-TZ (1 way discharge) and 302-US-TZ (2 way discharge) active chilled beam series are provided in two standard lengths to integrate with TechZone™, 8-foot and 4-foot long. The 8-foot beam also has an option that allows the ceiling grid T-barto pass perpendicular across the beam face on its centerlineallowing greater flexibility in laying out the ceiling support grid.

The DID301 and 302 feature three nozzle sizes to optimize induction, vertically mounted heat exchangers with condensate trays, perforated induced air grille and circular side-inlet for the connection. There are two types of heat exchanger available – a two-pipe system for cooling and a four-pipe system for cooling and heating.

Beams are provided with lockable sliding hanging brackets to allow alignment of beam and ceiling grid. Three border style options are available to coordinate the beam and T-Bar system and tile combination selected for a clean on-site installation.

For maintenance, the induction grille can be removed completely by releasing four bolts to gain access to the heat exchanger coils. Lanyard wires attached to the induction grille provide additional safety.

The TROX DID301-US-TZ and DID302-US-TZ chilled beams have been reconfigured specifically to integrate into Armstrong® TechZone™ceilings. By combining two innovative technologies, architects and engineers now have a visually appealing, custom design-look with the flexibility of a modular ceiling system.

(Note: The DID301-TZ & DID302-TZ active chilled beams are also available in 3- to 10-foot lengths as a cost option)
