PowerPoint PresentationDESIGN (GENERAL)
Design focuses on the application of design thinking to create concepts for
products, services and environments in response to human needs, wants and
opportunities.
• describe design problems and design criteria
• represent ideas, concepts and information using drawing and prototyping
• analyse needs, wants and opportunities using data
• synthesise ideas and design information to propose design concepts
• evaluate ideas and design concepts to make refinements

Assessment
• Schools assess Units 1 and 2 to suit their local context.
• In Units 3 and 4 students complete four summative assessments. The results
from each of the assessments are added together to provide a subject score
out of 100. Students will also receive an overall subject result (A–E).
Pathways
A course of study in Design can establish a basis for further education
and employment in the fields of architecture, digital media design,
fashion design, graphic design, industrial design, interior design and
landscape architecture.

Pathways
A course of study in Engineering Skills can establish a basis for further
education and employment in engineering trades. With additional training and
experience, potential employment opportunities may be found, for example, as
a sheet metal worker, metal fabricator, welder, maintenance fitter, metal
machinist, locksmith, air-conditioning, mechanic, refrigeration mechanic or
automotive mechanic.

Pathways
A course of study in Furnishing Skills can establish a basis for further
education and employment in the furnishing industry. With additional training
and experience, potential employment opportunities may be found in
furnishing trades as, for example, a furniture-maker, wood machinist, cabinet-
maker, polisher, shopfitter, upholsterer, furniture restorer, picture framer, floor
finisher or glazier.
