Most of the time installation problems are due to limited resources, for example on shared hosting servers. Here's an overview of the PHP configuration settings you should check and increase, if needed.

After installing the template your website stays blank, just because your Stylesheets and JavaScripts aren't loaded? This might because the webserver is unable to access these files. Make sure that you have set the right file permission to the following directories used by the template Permissions are inherited from the parent folder. If you set the specific template folder (e.g. /templates/ospt3map) and all sub files/folders to the correct permission but the whole Joomla media folder has lower permissions it will not work. Best way is to alter the permissions of the top level folder. Sometimes Joomlas root directory has too low permissions and you wonder why it is not working.... Note:Note:Note:Note: Always avoid 777 permissions. If your webserver has problems with the CHMOD 755, you can also try 775 and lastely 777 in this order.

Right click on a directory which you want to change the permissions on and click File Permissions.... Tip: After applying new permissions some FTP clients require the file view to be refreshed. Otherwise the old permissions will continue to show... Installing Joomla! for the first time is very easy. Joomla!'s built-in web installer makes setting up your new site a breeze. Before we start installing Joomla!, there are a couple prerequisites that need to be met to install Joomla! successfully. These apply whether you have a dedicated server, a shared hosting plan, or are installing a copy on a local computer for testing or development.

You'll need to meet the following requirements below to install and use Joomla! 3.x

by the Joomla! installation. Common uses would be to update the username and password of the database or to complete a move of an existing installation to a new host with different parameters. It is now time to finalise the Joomla! installation. The last page of the web brower installation contains all the information about the installation. This includes the options(at the top) for installing sample data and the installation's configurations(at the bottom). This will start the actual installation process. After you click the Install button, you should see a progress bar with additional information of the installation. Once the installation completes, you should see the success page!

Congratulations! Joomla! 3 is now installed, but there is one last step to complete the installation and start using your Joomla! powered site.
