NEGOTIATION1) Each team will consist of 2 students2) The competition rounds will consist of two teams. Each round of the competition will be structured in the following way:

Negotiation (30 minutes)Self-evaluation preparation (10 minutes)Judges comments (5 minutes)

3) Each team will be allowed a 5-minute break during the negotiation if they choose to use it, but the overall time for the round will not stop during a break. If a team elects to take a break, both teams are required to leave the room, and may not converse with any other competitors or persons. The teams may re enter the room at any point prior to expiration of the 5-minute break, but are required to be in the room at the expiration of the break. Judges may deduct performance points based on any violation of these rules.

4) Two judges and a timekeeper will oversee each round. The panel of judges overseeing each round will evaluate the performance of the competitors according to the criteria provided, and after observing a full completion of the round (i.e. Round 1a and 1b), will rank the teams in order of 1-4, with a rank of 1 being the best and 4 the worst.

5) Preparation for the self-evaluation portion of the rounds will take place outside the presence of judges, timekeeper, and opposing team.

6) During competition rounds, competitors may not bring or make reference to any outside source or visual aid, except for those specifically provided.

7) Competitors are required to remain respectful towards one another at all points during the competition. Failure to do so may lead to a deduction in performance points by the judges, and possibly disqualification from the competition.

CLIENT COUNSELING1) Each team must consist of 2 members.2) Each member will act as a lawyer.3) They will be required to counsel a client re a particular legal issue.4) The team members will be provided with the brief of the client problem.5) The team members will be required to interview the client to infer the nature of the problem, the modus operandi, the plausible solutions and the financials.6) The team members will be required to carry out a post counselling session (in the absence of the client) to draw up and analyze the legal modalities of the problem.7) Each team will be given 30 minutes for both the sessions (combined).8) The team will be assessed by a panel of judges on the following parameters:a. Listening & questioning skills.b. Planning & analytical skills.c. Nature of solution recommended to the client.

WHAT’S THE GOOD WORD?Description:Teams of two (2), maximum two teams per college.All teams will be given one (1) word per round, which shall have to be described in three (3) separate word clues.For every round, each team will be given sixty (60) seconds to guess the word.On guessing the right word in one (1) clue, the team will score thirty (30) points, on using two (2) clues, twenty (20) points and on using all three (3) clues, the team will score ten (10) points.

General Rules:

No hand gestures will be permitted.No part of the word may be used.No abbreviations may be used.No using ‘sounds like.’Hyphenated words will be regarded as two separate words.Using of articles and prepositions like ‘a’, ‘an’, ‘in’, ‘on’, etc. shall be treated as separate word clues.Eliminations1. RAMBLE ON- EXTEMPORESymbhav 2011 brings to you a platform to speak out. Not just profoundthoughts but wit, humour and panache. So if you have an opinion and canprocess it fast enough, here is your chance to be heard!From being ship wrecked, to air crashed and racing your thoughts with constraints -you'll be doing it all.

Round 1- Elimination:Each speaker will get to choose a topic at random, prepare on that topic for 30 seconds and speak for 60 seconds.A total of 6 speakers will be selected for the next round.

Round 2 -Semi- Finals (Word On):Each speaker will be given a specific word to start with, and during the course of his/her speech, new words would be given which he/she would have to incorporate in the speech. A total time of 90 seconds would be given per speaker.A total of 4 speakers would be selected for the next round.

Round 3 -Finals (Ship Wreck):Each speaker will be assigned a character, and the speaker has to step into the characters shoes and convince the judge & audience that he should be given the only life jacket available on the sinking ship.The character would be given to the speaker at the Judge’s discretion, and will be allowed to prepare for 60 seconds, and thereafter speak for 90 seconds.Judging Criterion:Participants will be judged on their humour, wit, flow of thought and correlation to the topic, word, character as the case may be.The use of abusive language and racist remarks is not permitted and would result in termination of participation.The final decision will be that of the Judges, which will not be challenged.

FOURTH ESTATELiterature is the art of writing something that will be read twice; journalism what will be grasped at once. ~Cyril ConnollyThe Fourth Estate is to be a written event, testing the journalistic skills of the participants. The event is to be divided into 3 rounds.

Round OneThis round will be based on Photojournalism.Participants will be given 10 pictures based any news making event that took place last year. After choosing one out of the ten pictures at random, the participant will then be expected to write a news report based on the picture. The participant is not expected to be factually correct, however his/her piece should be related to the picture chosen. Marks will be given on the structure, language, grammar and the engaging nature of the piece. Participants are also required to give a caption to the picture.Word Limit: 500 to 600 words.Duration: 2 hours.

Round TwoTop 10 participants from round one will be chosen for the final round. The participants are expected to write a feature article on any one event in Symbhav’11. The feature must contain the participant’s personal experience of a particular event during the course of Symbhav. This will encourage the participants to take part more actively in Symbhav and will test his/her observational skills. Marks will be given on the structure, language, grammar and the engaging nature of the piece.Word Limit: 1500 to 2000 words.Duration: 3 hours

Round ThreeThis round will be based on news reporting. The top 5 participants from round two will be chosen for this round. Participants will be giving a choice of 2 news clips: One serious and one light-hearted.The clips will be shown twice to each participant and will not contain any audio. The participant may choose between either clip and he/she will be expected to narrate a news report based on the clip. Marks will be given on the basis of body language, use of words and clarity of speech.

PARDA PHANSHStreet Play in Hindi.From time immemorial, THE STREET PLAY is deep rooted in Indian tradition. In the most unexpected places –in the market place, during an evening walk, at the bus stop or perhaps even on the street in front of our home- a group of people, acting out a short skit or play, for anyone who might wish to stop and watch.Now it’s our turn to don the hat, break barriers of stage and ticketed entries. Visualize the future, and attempt to put our vision across. Take the responsibility to ‘Be the Change’ and alter the ailments of our society.

Theme: Any relevant social issue.Time Limit:10+2 Minutes.No. of Participants:7+3.Language: HINDI. Minimal usage of other languages.No usage of unparliamentary language.Props: No props/costume shall be provided.Music: Acoustic. No recorded music or sounds shall be allowed.

General Rules:At the time of registration, interested persons have to fill the contest entry-sheet. A maximum of 20 girls and 20 boys will be selected based on the quality of their entries.There will be three rounds, namely,

Personality Round: Participants will be walking the ramp and briefly introducing themselves.

Talent Round: There will be 10 qualifying participants (each out of boys and girls) who will showcase their talents in not more than 2 mins. If the time limit is exceeded, it will lead to deduction of points. The participants have to get their own costumes, props, music etc as required by them.

Situational Questions Round: This is the final round and 3 participants (each out of boys and girls) will qualify. Each participant will choose a Judge who will then ask him/her a question. The decision given by the Panel of Judges will be final.

DANCE,BAAJA, SAMAAJ - GROUP DANCE Kanoon ke haat bohot lambe hote hain aur aajkal toh group dance tak bhi pahunch gayehain.And therefore, it is with great pride that Symbiosis Law School invites you to Dance, Baaja, Samaaj- the group dance competition this year at Symbhav 2011. Toh, apne aadmiyon se kaho ki sabhi zanjeerien tod dein aur naachne ko tayaar ho jaanye.LOCK your scores by breath taking moves and POP your competitors out....Show your HIP ishtyle and make the audience HOP....And let the matka jhatkas & cha cha-chas paint a story … so that dance can once again do what it was always supposed to…… MAKE a DIFFERENCE!!!!

BASIC INFORMATIONTeam Size: 8 to 12 dancers + 2 CAs ( including 1 compulsory Music CA )Time Limit: 8 to 12 minutes.Depending on the number of applicants, a qualifier round for all the local teams might be held.Music CDs have to be submitted one day in advance to avoid any technical glitches.The decision of the judges will be final.Cross teams are allowed, however professional dance teams will not be allowed to compete.There is no restriction on genre or language of music.Indian Classical dance forms are not allowed.A minimum of 2 different genres of dance should be represented in the dance routine- . i.e: Hip Hop, Jazz, Crumping, Bollywood, Contemporary, Freestyle, Folk, etc....No obscenity , fireworks or other dangerous items/acts will be permitted on stage.The decision of the organisers will be final with respect to any issue of obscenity or non-adherence to rules.Props are allowed.Criteria for judgement will include at the very least - Expression, Choreography, Synchronisation, Overall Presentation, Execution of Theme.Teams are requested to provide a legitimate email id during registration, as any changes or updates with respect to the rules will be emailed to the email id provided during registration.

THEMEThe theme for the dance teams will be "Making a Difference". The dance should portray a message or a story whether - political, emotional, environmental, social, economic, animal rights, human rights, secular or cultural etc. To ensure that there are no disqualifications based on theme, teams are encouraged to get in touch with the organisers once they have decided the message/story they wish to portray. The inclusion of a theme is compulsory

ABLAZE- Fashion Show1.Theme: Street fashion. The clothes, hairstyles and makeup of the participants must reflect the theme.

2.Number of contestants per team: Min-8, Max-10. Teams may have both male and female participants.

4.Time limit for each performance is 8 minutes. Any performance beyond the prescribed time limit with result on elimination/reduction of marks scored.

5.The last date for registration is the 18th of February 2011.Details of the number for participants etc. must be intimated during registration.

6.One song or a medley of songs may be used for the performance.

7.Rehearsal at the venue on or before the date of the final show is not allowed.

8.Order of performance for the final show will be allotted on the basis of time of registration.

MUSIC & LYRICS- WESTERN SOLOTime Limit: Every participant will get 5 minutes on stage (including set up time). Buzzer will be sounded when 1 minute remains.No team will perform Gospel and Rock and Roll songs.Pre Recorded music, percussion and Electric guitars will not be permitted.Wind instruments, acoustic guitars and keyboard (only on piano mode) are allowed.Solo: maximum 3 members per team including 2 instrumentalistsTwo participants per college permitted. Participants may sing only ONE song.THEME: All male participants must sing a song originally sung by a female artist and all female participants must choose a song by a male artist.Failure to comply with the theme will result in disqualification.

No instruments will be provided. Rules:Number of Participants: 3 – 8 members + 1 Accompanist. The accompanist shall be required to be with the Audio/Video control during the setup of the band, to make sure they can customise the acoustics as per their requirements. An accompanist is not compulsory, but is strongly recommended.

Eliminations – Eliminations: Bands have to submit a demo recording of their music to the e-mail address will be mentioned.

Finals: 8 Bands will be selected to perform in the finals. of their participation in the finals.

CLICK ART PHOTOGRAPHYAn opportunity to wield you lenses and cameras and capture the essence of the festival, a photojournalistic challenge for the nest shot that captures the essence of Symbhav. As for the inspired veterans, we also have a category to capture iconic nostalgic images from the years gone by. People, places, instruments, automobiles, that have been untainted by time; Photos that convincingly look like a snapshot from the past. We aren't talking about converting mundane photos, devoid of aesthetics to black and white or sepia, so your going to have to make photos!

The photography contest at Symbhav will have two categories:1. The general theme based photography contest -Retro reminescence: people places instruments automobiles..2.The best photo shot during Symbhav that captures the essence of Symbhav.

Competition guidelinesAn electronic copy of the Image should be emailed to a mentioned email address along with the following1. Name of the participant,2. Title of the photograph3. Contact details.Images should be accompanied by a caption and an optional footnote up to 10words.All soft copies must be either in tiff, raw or jpeg format.Prints of film photographs must be supported with a negative, time and place of the Image. The negative will be returned to the participant after scrutinisation.No scanned images will be allowed unless accompanied by negatives.Scanned Images up to the equivalent of 12 megapixelsEditing the photos is strictly prohibited excluding tone curves, brightness/colour correction and redeye correction.All photos must either be in 4:3 or 3:2aspect ratiosInappropriate contents in the photos will lead to immediate disqualification.With regard to the rejection of entries and selection of winners discretion of the judges is final.

TRASH TO TREASURE- JUNKYARDNo of participants - Team of 3Time- 2 hours 30 minutes (approx)Round 1 (SCAVENGER HUNT) – 30 minutesRound 2 (RECYCLE ART) – 90 minutesRound 3 (DEMONSTRATION) – 2 minutes per team

Round 1: SCAVENGER HUNTTime – 30 minutesEach team should consist of 3 participants.There will be a total of fifteen objects around the campus that the teams need to

look for.At the beginning of the event each team will be given a series of clues, hints and

puzzles.The teams are expected to solve these simple and basic puzzles to decrypt the clues

and hints for the scavenger hunt.The teams are then supposed to hunt for the junk with the help of the clues and

hints.A minimum of five objects of junk have to be collected with the help of the given

clues. Else the team gets disqualified.There will be volunteers around the campus to assist every team. Follow their

instructions in case of any difficulty.

Round 2-Trash to Treasure

Immediately at the end of half an hour, every team is expected to report to the classroom in which the activity is to be conducted.

After all teams have assembled, each team will be given a sheet of white chart paper, cello tape and paper cutters.

The theme will be announced then and they may then start with their creation.They will be given 90 minutes to complete their creation after which they will be

asked to leave.Participants may use their own glue, sketch pens, pastels, crayons and water colour.No other junk other than what has been collected may be used.

Round 3- DemonstrationOne member from each team will be called in to demonstrate what exactly their

creation represents and how it is related to the given theme.Demonstration may last for about two to three minutes.

SPORTS EVENTSI. GeneralThis tournament is strictly invitational. It is controlled and conducted by the Sports Committee approved by the Symbiosis Law School. All teams and players are to conform to the best tenets of sportsmanship and to the intent as well as the letter of these rules. Teams and/or players which do not, in the opinion of the Organizing Committee, conduct themselves in a positive sportsmanlike manner and/or act otherwise so as to circumvent the spirit of the rules, may not be invited to participate in future tournaments. Please read and understand the following rules. Each captain/contingent leader is responsible for his/her players and others with the team, to know the rules and follow them.

II. Rules for Players:Failure of a team to report on time will lead to forfeiture. No Exceptions. Teams are expected on the court at the designated time. Teams must have the minimum number of players to begin a game. A fifteen-minute grace period will be given before forfeiture only if there reasonable justification given.

Teams must have matching jerseys with a number displayed on the back.All players must have their number listed (printed) on the score sheet prior to the start of the game. No names may be added after the team is registered.

Same team players cannot be listed on more than one team roster for the same sport.No changes to the rosters will be allowed unless a validly justified emergency situation is brought to the attention of the Tournament Committee.

Captains/ Contingent Leaders are accountable for college verifications of the players listed on the team list. If a question should arise and the proof is not available, the game will be forfeited. Player will not be able to play if in violation.

Teams are responsible for any damages to the facilities and equipment that are caused by them. Any damages to the facilities and/or equipment, or misconduct deemed inappropriate by the Event Director will result in disqualification from the event. There will be absolutely no refunds or awards given to any team disqualified.

Teams are expected to report at the venue at least 15 minutes before their scheduled events. Captains are advised to check the master schedule and notify the committee in case of any clash of event one day prior.

Only college ID cards of the present year have to be submitted. No library cards etc.The Organizing committee Reserves the right to make any changes to fixtures, duration or any other need of the game.

III. Rules for Sports:

1. FOOTBALL (Men)Teams of 16 (11 + 5)20 minute halves in the initial stages, till the quarter final matches, 25 minute halves for the semi-final and 30 minute halves for the final matches.Maximum of 3 substitutions allowed per match.7 minute break at half-time till the quarter final matches, and 10 minute break for the semi-final and final matches.Straight penalties.

2. TABLE TENNISGirls & Boys Teams- separate events (3 members each)Single, Single, Double format (Best of 3 sets)Only for finals- singles, singles, doubles, reverse, reverse (Best of 5 sets)11 points each game.

3. VOLLEYBALL (Men and Women)6 a side (maximum 9)3 sets of 25 points each in the initial stages, semi finals and finals – 5 sets of 25 points each.Rotation Compulsory.All standard volleyball rules apply.

4. BASKETBALLGirls & Boys separate teams10 minute stop time quarters.1 time-out of 30 seconds allowed per quarter.2 minute break between the 1st and 2nd quarters, 5 minute break between the 2nd and 3rd quarters, and 2 minute break between the 3rd and 4th quarters.5 minute overtime period in case of a tied score.Teams of 12 (5 + 7).First quarter time out cannot be carried overSecond quarter onwards time outs can be carried over.

5. THROWBALLGirls onlyTeam of 9(6+3)3 sets of 25 points each in the initial stages, semi finals and finals – 5 sets of 25 points each.Rally point system applies.All standard Throwball rules apply. (No shift or fumble, no underarm throws and serves, no jumping and throwing, no travelling etc.)

6. BADMINTONTeam of minimum 2 and a maximum of 4 players.1st match – singles, 2nd match- singles, 3rd match- doublesEach match shall be best of 3 sets.New rules applicable.Rally points system applicable.
