Site Environmental Management

This course is aimed at field personnel involved in the management of the environment on work sites.

Offered in partnership with Statewide River & Stream Management Pty Ltd and presented by Ken Fraser. Through theoretical and practical training field personnel will gain the skills to ensure the appropriate management of the environment as part of their site works. This course is compliant with legislative requirements under the Planning and Environment Act (Victorian Planning Provisions: 56.08). The course covers the competency RTD2202A Conduct Erosion and Sediment Control Activities. Successful completion will gain credit towards Swinburne’s Certificate II in Conservation and Land Management.

This course is aimed at managers and supervisors involved in the management of the environment on work sites.

Carbon Accounting

CarbonAccounting(21882VIC)

This course would be of interest to existing students in sustainability, engineering or business services areas; people working in a business environment who want to be better informed and able to calculate greenhouse gas emissions from their business; people in policy positions in government departments who want to gain some specialised knowledge and skills in calculating greenhouse gas emissions in a business context; and people with roles in industry who will be required to up-skill in the area of climate change and carbon trading. Participants must have a competent working knowledge of Excel. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows students to be granted credit or partial credit towards a qualification in recognition of skills and knowledge gained through work experience, life experience and/or training.

Australia’s first accredited course in Carbon Accounting, delivered through three face-to-face sessions with course notes posted online. This course covers two nationally accredited units of competency VPAU324 Develop a Carbon Inventory for the Workplace and VPAU325 Develop a Carbon Report for the Workplace. The first covers the processes required to identify and categorise the carbon emissions of an organisation, determine the correct methods for estimating those emissions and produce a carbon inventory for that organisation. The second looks at the business environment of any organisation, including businesses, community organisations and government agencies that wish to provide a report on that organisation’s carbon emissions.

You will learn how to develop and comment on the implications for an organisation of its carbon inventory. Issues such as the carbon management hierarchy, carbon trading and carbon offsets are covered. The approaches taken align with current greenhouse reporting methodologies including reference to the greenhouse gas protocol. Assessments included in course fee.

As participants are required to complete and return a Swinburne enrolment form to undertake this accredited program we recommend you register two weeks prior to course commencement to ensure you have timely access to course learning materials.

Swinburne offers Australia’s only accredited online course in Carbon Accounting.

The first unit VPAU324 Develop a Carbon Inventory for the Workplace describes the methods used to identify and categorise the carbon emissions of an organisation, estimate those emissions and produce a carbon inventory. The second unit VPAU325 Develop a Carbon Report for the Workplace describes the methods used to review the carbon inventory of an organisation and produce a contextualised carbon report.

This course aligns with current greenhouse reporting methodologies including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.

An email will be sent to students prior to the start of the course with online access details. Participants require sound computer skills and will need access to a computer (recommended to be less than four years old), Microsoft Office Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Broadband internet access and web browser (Firefox recommended).

This nationally accredited qualification TAA40104 provides learners with the knowledge and skills to effectively plan, design, organise and conduct training and assessment in the workplace or in a Registered Training Organisation. Experienced cablers will need a preliminary assessment to determine additional modules required. A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) fee applies for formal assessment of RPL eligibility. All assessment fees are included in the course fee with the exception of RPL for non-electricians.
