Four M3 Lee tanks – on the seabed near Sambro Island (Canada)
The ship “Kolkhosnik” sank on January 16, 1942. Heading for Halifax to join a convoy, she struck an unknown object near Sambro Island and soon sank. Her crew took to lifeboats and all safely reached the Sambro lighthouse. The cause was first thought to be a
torpedo, but no German submarines reported an attack and none were recorded in the area. More likely she was off course and struck one of the ledges aground Sambro. Her wreck was salvaged after the war. Today it attracts divers and underwater photographers,
especially for the M3 Lee tanks carried as deck cargo (Marine Heritage database)

M3 Grant “Monty” – Imperial War Museum, London (UK)
This tank was Field Marshal Montgomery's command tank. The guns (or at least the main 75mm in the hull) are fake

M3 Grant – Rex & Ron Cadman Collection (UK) – running condition
This tank is in running condition, despite its target range wreck look

M3 Grant – Royal Museum of the Armed Forces, Brussels (Belgium)
This tank, like the most of the vehicles on display in this museum, was undoubtly recovered from the battlefield, because of the numerous hits on the hull and driving train (Mark Neukom)

“Bukvoed”, January 2007 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Puckapunyal-M3-BARV-2.jpg
M3 BARV – Royal Australian Armoured Corps Tank Museum
Puckapunyal, VIC (Australia) A single M3A5 Grant tank was converted into a BARV in 1950 by the Australian Army. This remained in service until 1970 (Wikipedia)
This M4A3 reproduction was used for the 2005 film “The Great Raid”. The hull was used to build a Sherman M4A3 reproduction, because M3 Grant hulls are easy to find in Australia, and it was too expensive to rent a real M4A3 to make the film (AFV News forum)
Vis-mod M3 Grant hull – Private collection, somewhere in NSW (Australia)
The chassis has a mixed matched set of tracks, left being the rubber block type and the right being the later all steel Grouser type (“Colin”)
I’m looking for photos of those tanks :
M3 Lee chassis – Fort Gordon, Augusta, GA (USA) M3 Grant – Yanks Air Museum, Chino, CA (USA)
any M3 Lee or Grant that I forgot….
This document is a compilation of photos published on the web. I would like to thank especially Rafał Białęcki, who deserved the most of the job on this document, and also the people who took these photos and put them on their websites, or sent them to me,
and those who helped me doing these lists (particularly people of the AFV News Discussion Board). For any question, you can email me at [email protected]
