This conference is at the end of the year. What is its purpose?

● Allows students to share how their goal setting has worked or not worked.

● Allows students to show their growth as learners.

● Allows students to share how they feel about their learning.

Decide what to say...

Students decide what to say about their learning, using JIS Values, Dispositions.Talk about Goals set earlier in the year....Talk about Growth...

Organising ideas google doc.

Then, find the evidence to support those statements! Evidence can come from... anywhere....

Page 5: Student-led Conferences 2013

All subject areas, after school activities, special events.....Recording sheet

Then, arrange or organise that evidence and work out what to actually say.

For a week prior....practise, practise, practise....with a peer, with a teacher... so that the end result is a confident student who is articulate when talking about the learning and who knows the "topic" well enough to answer questions. This should be a discussion rather than learned monologue....

When Conference times are allocated....

Let parentsknow what the expectations will be - for them and for their children.

Dear Parents,

In Student-Led Conferences students lead their parents through different

aspects of their learning. Earlier in the year students thought about areas

where they felt they showed strength. They identified areas where they felt

they could improve. Your child will talk about his or her learning identifying

areas where they feel they have grown. For all the statements they make

about their learning, they will show evidence which could be in many different

formats and may be from multiple subject areas.

(Before the conference the students will have practice in sharing and

explaining their learning through role play.)

Why Student-Led Conferences?

SLCs allow students to discuss their work with their parents in the language

that best suits the family – even if this is not the teacher’s language.

SLCs help parents to understand how their child sees his or her learning.

SLCs give the child the opportunity to show how he or she has accepted

responsibility for learning.

SLCs promote reflection and engagement with learning.

SLCs show development of the Learning Dispositions.*

So, for this to work, your child must be present for this conference!

There will be a short time where you can talk just with me or you can of

course schedule another appointment after the SLC.

Best regards..........etc

Student is alone in the room, therefore using smartboard - which won't be the case this year.

Teacher is at own desk, tidying up Google Drive folders.... drinking coffee.....

You get the idea...
