I am hoping that the beautiful weather we have had on late continues into March. When it is this nice outside, it is easy to believe that spring is just around the corner! It sounds like many families took advantage of the February break to spend time together; many students were excited telling others about their adventures away from school for a week. Thanks to the Redvers School Community Council for purchasing the books for our One School One Book Initiative. All readers seem to be enjoying the BFG and I know that some big friendly giants have enjoyed visiting the K-6 classrooms to see who is still reading along. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the SCC for bringing in a guest speaker from the Saskatchewan Lung Association to speak to students, parents and community members about vaping. The presentation was engaging and informative and for many, eye opening about the number of youth affected by vaping. I would also like to thank Michelle Jensen and the Redvers Public Library for once again sponsoring and setting up a wonderful presentation for Aboriginal Month. Our K-grade 6 students loved this session that focused on music and stories told through songs. Thanks Redvers Public Library for always bringing us such great speakers! The month of March brings about student led conferences and report cards. K-12 student led conferences are being held on March 11 and 12 from 3:45 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to share your child’s growth with either a homeroom/subject teacher. If you are a parent of a grade 9-12 student this is also an opportunity to look at credits required/earned for any post- secondary aspiration. Once again, we are using simplybookme.com to schedule conference times. A letter was sent home prior to February break with booking details, however, if you are requiring assistance please do not hesitate to call the school office and request some assistance. Report cards will follow student led conferences at the end of the month. Redvers School is excited to be hosting the Region 1 Drama Festival on April 3 and 4 in the school gymnasium. If you are interested in seeing our students in their theatrical element please make sure you check the festival out! Thanks to all students and staff who are volunteering time and expertise to get this festival off the ground. Look for posters announcing plays and times towards the end of the month. I hope the next month brings us warm weather and some grass peeking through the snow. Please remember that there is no school for students on March 13th & March 16th. Mrs. Fraser

I am hoping that the beautiful weather we

have had on late continues into March.

When it is this nice outside, it is easy to

believe that spring is just around the

corner! It sounds like many families took

advantage of the February break to spend

time together; many students were excited

telling others about their adventures away

from school for a week.

Thanks to the Redvers School Community

Council for purchasing the books for our

One School One Book Initiative. All readers

seem to be enjoying the BFG and I know

that some big friendly giants have enjoyed

visiting the K-6 classrooms to see who is still

reading along. I would also like to take this

The month of March brings about student

led conferences and report cards. K-12

student this is also an opportunity to look at

credits required/earned for any post-

Aborginal Storytellers at the

Redvers School

Every year, for the past 16 years, libraries in the

province of Saskatchewan celebrate Aboriginal

Story Telling Month, honouring the age old

tradition of the elders, of storytelling in the cold

winter months.

This year, Redvers Public Library Branch is

happy to bring Michele Amy, Dale McArthur,

and Pierre Tinant to our community.

Dale McArthur (known professionally as Dale

Mac) is an Indigenous songwriter and

Blues/Roots/Rock guitarist from the White Bear

First Nation and based in Regina, Sask. Dale’s

songs and lyrics are based around Canadiana

while promoting his style of music and positive

lifestyle. His songs were featured on TV, Media,

and radio.

Métis fiddler Michele Amy did not get to grow

up within the Métis culture. Her mother (Fran)

grew up as a ward of Catholic Children’s Aid

Society of Vancouver; her only personal

artifacts were a pair of tiny handmade

moccasins. Fran only discovered her heritage

as an adult, and by then, as with many Metis

people at the time, hiding her heritage was a

way of life. Michele has spent years researching

her maternal family history, both the Métis

history and culture as well as indigenous

cultures and how they weave in and out of the

Métis way, the Canadian story, and with her

own complex family history.

Michele is the creator of a fiddle educational

series, (Just Fiddling Around) as well as one of

Canada’s flagship fiddle camps ( The Kenosee

Lake Kitchen Party), and was short-listed for the

Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Leadership award.

Michele has traveled widely around the world,

performing, speaking and promoting Canadian

fiddle culture.

Michele is accompanied by long-time friend and

guitar player Pierre Tinant. Michele taught

Pierre’s son to play the fiddle, and as a result,

Pierre was forced to discover a love of fiddle

accompaniment. Freshly retired from teaching

at Ecole de Bellegarde, Pierre’s new journey has

freed him to once again become entangled with

Michele’s projects, thank goodness! He shares a

solid knowledge of the music and the traditions,

which are vital for any fiddler

We would like to thank Redvers School, Library

Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal Peoples

and the many sponsors of this event. And most

of all we wish to thank Michele Amy, Dale

McArthur, and Pierre Tinant for a wonderful

story telling event.

At the beginning of February the

Elementary Drama Club, made up of

students from grade 5 and 6, performed

“Bedbugs”. The production “Bedbugs” has a

young girl, Marie, who enjoys jumping on

her bed. For Marie the jumping is fun and

harmless, for the bedbugs it is a disaster.

The bedbugs view Marie as a wicked witch

who is out to hurt them. In the end, Marie

learns that the bedbugs have a different

viewpoint from her and the two parties

peacefully come up with a solution to work

things out.

This year we had a great bunch of students

to work with. We appreciated their

commitment to every practice. This years

students were: Clara, Madison, Jayda,

Sarah, Presley, Nazryn, Asia, Eve, Ryan,

Krielle, Arianna, Ericka, Jeliel, Marissa,

Ainsley, Miley and Rhett.

Drama advisors were

Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Dyck,

Mr. Kirk
