comprehensivefive-yearblueprintofgoalsandstrategiesthatwillguidethePegasusSchoolwellintothenextgeneration.

ThePegasusSchoolhasprovidedoutstandingacademicprogramsforOrangeCountyfamiliessince1984.Ourschoolisknownforchallengingacademics,forthedevelopmentofoutstandingteachers,andforourcommitmenttotheeducationofbrightandgiftedstudents.Ourgraduatesaredisciplined,creative,andinnovative.Theyhaveconfidenceandcharacter.Theyattendthefinesthighschoolsintheareaandarerepresentedintopcollegesacrossthenation.

Our2011StrategicPlanbuildsonthisfoundationofexcellence.Developedbytheschool’sBoardofTrusteeswithbroadparticipationfromtheentireschoolcommunity,theStrategicPlanestablishesprioritiesforthenextfiveyearswithastrategicviewtowardsthelongerterm.ThedocumentwillguidetheBoard,theadministration,thefaculty,andstaffinestablishingprioritiesforaction.Itposesvitalquestionsforstudyandresearch,theanswerstowhichwilldetermineactionstobetaken.

OurPlanisambitious.Itprovidesforthecontinuinggrowthofdynamicstudentprogramsandtheongoingdevelopmentofourfirstratefaculty.ThePlanprioritizesoutstandingfacilitiesandextendsourcultureofcollaborationandinnovationinteaching.Additionally,thePlanfocusestheschoolonprioritiesforcommunicationandextendsthereachofourcommunitybybringingalumniclosertotheschoolanddevelopingresourcestosustainourmissionforfuturegenerations.

Ourschoolhasgrownfromitsfirstsevenchildrentoathrivinganddiversecampusof565 studentsbecauseofagenuinecommitmentfromtheentirePegasusCommunity.Thesuccessofthisplanwillrequiresustainedcommitmentfromanewgenerationofleadersanddonorswhosupportourgoaltoprovideatransformativeeducationalexperience.IencourageyoutoreviewourplanandIwelcomeyourthoughtsaboutourgoalsandaspirations.ThankyouforyourcontinuedsupportofThePegasusSchool.

Inthefallof2010,ThePegasusSchoolBoardofTrusteesembarkedonastrategicplanningprocesstoestablishprinciplesofgrowththroughleadershiptransition.TheprocesswasorchestratedbyanOversightCommitteecomposedofBoardmembers,faculty,andadministration,chairedbyparentandtrustee,LeslieSeidner.

ThroughJanuaryof2011,theOversightCommitteeadministeredschool-widesurveysforparentsandfaculty(withanimpressive80%and76%responserate,respectively)andfollowedupwithlisteningsessionstoidentifycorequestionsandissues.TheHeadofSchoolalsometwitharangeofalumniandstudentgroups,parents,anddonorsinavarietyofsettings.Resultswerecompiledwithavarietyofotherhistorical,accreditation,andstatisticalinformationtoinformtheplanningprocessandtoassignspecifictasksforsub-committeework.

Sixsub-committees-representingallconstituenciesinthecommunity–wereformed.Thesub-committeesconvenedforaretreatinFebruary,followedbyindividual sub-committeemeetingsthroughoutMarch,AprilandMay.

Initialsub-committeereportswerepresentedtotheBoardofTrusteesataJune2011Boardretreat.TheOversightCommittee,administration,andBoardofTrusteescontinuedtorevisetheStrategicPlanthroughthesummerandearlyfall.InSeptember2011,theStrategicPlanwasformallyapprovedbytheBoardofTrustees.TheSchool’sStrategicPlanwillbeimplementedthroughaninternalActionPlanwithspecificstrategies,actions,accountabilitycharts,andcompletiondates.

Tofulfillthevisionoutlinedinthisplanwillrequireinnovation,organizationandresources.Aswecompletethegoalsofthisplan,wewillcreateanevenmorevibrantschoolwhoseplaceofleadershipinourcommunitywillbecomeincreasinglyrelevant.

Dr.LauraHathaway’svisiontofillherclassroomswithpassionate,inspiring,andinnovativeteachersremainsstrongtwenty-sevenyearsaftershefoundedThePegasusSchool.SuccessfulPegasusteacherscanarticulatetheirpassionforgiftededucation,demonstrateastrongconnectiontochildren,andowntheintellectualcapacitytochallengeandsupportPegasusstudents.ThePegasusSchoolwillattract,retain,supportandinspireateamoftalentedfaculty,administrationandstaffdedicatedtodeliveringthemissionoftheschool.

ThePegasusSchoolwasfoundedasaschoolforgiftedstudentswhoseuniquecombinationsofintellectanddevelopmentalreadinessesdemandedfreshperspectivesinteaching.Ourteachersembraceprinciplesofgiftededucationforallofourstudents:highacademiccontent,highinterest,andappreciationforindividualdifferences.

TheSchool’s2008VisionPlanestablishedamodelfornationalcurriculumresearchanddevelopmentwithprofoundimpactonthewayseducatorsdeliveracademicprogramtostudents.Wewillbuildonprogramsthatinspireourstudent’sintellectualtalentsandprepareourstudentsforresponsibleleadership.

Our Goal: Wewillexpandontheremarkableaccomplishmentsofourschooloverthelasttwodecadesbyfocusingourfinancialresourcesonthedevelopmentofourstrategicinitiativestosupportoutstandingfaculty,ongoingacademicexcellence,andthelongtermdevelopmentofschoolfacilitiesandresources.

Overtwoandahalfdecades,ThePegasusSchoolhasgrownfromahandfulofstudentstoitscurrentenrollmentof565.Withinthattimeperiod,theschoolhascompletedthepurchaseofitscampusfromtheFountainValleySchoolDistrict(2003),aswellascompletedtwocapitalbuildingprojects(PalleyComplexin1997,HathawayActivitiesCenterin2000).Additionally,theschoolhasraisedasmall,butgrowing,endowmentof$3,200,000tosupportschooloperations.Theschoolcurrentlystandsinapositionoffiscalstrengthinwhichrevenuematchesexpenses,andfinancialoperationsarereviewedandupdatedregularly.

Overthenextfiveyears,theschoolwillembracefourstrategicfinancialpriorities:
