EYFS, Nursery & Reception Summer 1, Week 6 (WB: 25.05.21) Theme: Flowers & Plants (Revision & Pre-topic)

Learning through play and exploration is integral to everything we do in the EYFS. It is important that we talk to children about what they are doing as communication is key to their development. We share stories every day in class and encourage families to do the same at home. The

activities listed below are supplements to the continuous provision we would provide in class.

We will repeat lessons across the week to help strengthen your child’s understanding and will use books, songs and videos to supplement teaching. The links on here will help your child with their home learning and it is helpful to repeat them.

*Please remember to supervise your child when they are using the internet and websites such as YouTube.*

We will be doing lots of games and practical work in class to help us with our Phonics and Maths now we are back in school. We work on our Phonics every day.

Phase 3- oo & oo

Page 2: Story of the week - gilnow.bolton.sch.uk

We will be practising all the Phase 3 sounds you have worked on whilst you were learning at home. We will work on recognising these sounds on our mats both with and without the pictures. We will continue building our confidence in reading longer words using chunking. We will also be developing our writing skills to become

independent writers. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zcqqtfr

L.O. I can link sounds to letter groups (digraphs). I can blend sounds to read words. I can segment words for writing. I can begin to write strings of words to form captions.

Mrs Arshad’s group Phase 3- ow, oi, ear

We will be practising all the Phase 3 sounds, recognising them on our mats both with and without the pictures.

We will continue building our confidence in reading longer words using chunking. We will also be developing our writing skills to become independent writers.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zcqqtfr L.O. I can link sounds to letter groups (digraphs). I can blend sounds to read words. I can segment words for

writing. I can begin to write strings of words to form captions.

What do we do in phonics?

1. Practise our sounds from previous lessons using our sound cards/mats or: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/resources/phase/2/flashcards-speed-trials

2. Listen to our new sound and think of words with this sound in. 3. Practise writing the sound using the correct formation

https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/skyWriter/index.html 4. Practise reading and writing words with the sound in using games on

https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/member-only/Phase2Menu.htm & https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/literacy.html - Spooky Sounds, Viking Full Circle, Blending Bingo OR

Dinosaur Egg High Frequency Words.

Communication and Language

Nursery L.O. I can plant a seed. I can sequence pictures and talk about what is happening. I can use a wider vocabulary.

After planting their seeds, the children in Nursery will talk about what they did and see if they can recall some of the important words the teacher used (soil, seed, plant, roots, water, sun). What does your plant need so it can

grow?

Reception

L.O. I can sequence the growth of a plant and use talk to organise my ideas, explaining what is happening. I can use new vocabulary.

Using our knowledge of how plants grow, we will work in groups to sequence the pictures and explain what we can see happening. We will be using new vocabulary (seed, roots, shoot, stem, bud, flowers) to add detail to our

explanations.

Literacy- Writing

Nursery

L.O. I can create a story map for Jasper’s Beanstalk. I can use a wider vocabulary. I can use spoken sentences of 4-6 words. I can draw pictures with increasing complexity and detail.

Work with your teacher to retell the story using the pictures you can see. Can you use some words from the story?

Draw the missing pictures to complete the story.

Reception

Giraffes Group L.O. I can create a story map for Jasper’s Beanstalk. I can use a wider vocabulary. I can use spoken sentences of

4-6 words. I can draw pictures with increasing complexity and detail.

Using the book and the illustrations, we will work together to recall the key parts of the story and create a story map with a picture for each day. We will talk about our pictures and what they show using some of our new

vocabulary.

Lions Group

L.O. I can write instructions for planting a seed. I can spell words by matching sounds to letters (including some digraphs). I can write captions

After we have planted our seeds, we will be working on writing a set of instructions to help our friend to plant their’s. We will we need to think carefully about the order of our instructions and some bossy words (verbs) such

as put, dig and plant.

Zebra’s Group L.O. I can write instructions for planting a seed. I can write sentences with a capital letter, finger spaces and a full

stop. After we have planted our seeds, we will be working on writing a set of instructions to help our friend to plant

their’s. We will we need to think carefully about the order of our instructions and some bossy words (verbs) such as put, dig and plant.

Maths

Nursery L.O. I can subitise. I can count objects with 1-1 correspondence and say how many in total/altogether. I can

identify numerals to 5. I can solve problems with numbers to 5. I can ‘add’ one more. We will be revising subitising through counting how many leaves/flowers we can see in pictures and matching them to the correct number. We will then begin to work on ‘one more’ by adding an extra and then calculating

how many there are altogether. We will use a number line to help us recognise the correct numerals and show our teacher.

Reception- Suns

L.O. I can solve number problems. I can recall number facts within 5.

Suns group will be working on addition calculations within 5. They will use pictures (and subitising to recognise the number without counting) and their fingers/counting resources to count on from the first number. We will be discussing the language ‘add/plus’ ‘more’, ‘equals’ and ‘altogether’. We will be practising lots to help us to begin

to recall some facts without calculating.

Reception- Moons L.O. I can recall number facts (additions) within 5 and then 10. I can recall doubles.

We will be doing more work on our quick recall of number facts this week with a concentration on recalling addition facts within 10. With this, we will also revise our doubles and work on mentally solving additions as well as knowing how we can use different resources (cubes, counters, drawings, our fingers or a number line) to help if

we get stuck.

Reception- Stars L.O. I can explore number patterns including odd and even, doubles and halving.

Stars group will continue working on number patterns including odd and even and linking these to their knowledge

of halving.

Other Areas of

Learning:

Understanding the World

Personal Social &

Emotional Expressive Arts &

Design

Physical Development

UtW- The Natural World

L.O. I can make comments and observations of the world around me. I can identify living things.

We will be revising what we know about plants and their needs this week. Every child will be planting a seed in their own pot and watching it grow.

We will use a seed like cress as this is fast growing. If you wanted to do this at home you could even use a cup or an old yoghurt pot.

What can we do to help our plant grow tall and strong? We will also plant one of our seeds in a clear pot so we can look at what happens under the surface. We we will learn to name the key parts of the plant: roots, shoot,

stem, leaves and flower.

UtW- The Natural World

L.O. I can make observations of flowers and plants. I can talk about processes.

Using some cut flowers, we will learn how water travels up the stem of a flower

and out to the petals.

EAaD- Art

L.O. I can make a nature map.

Using natural materials we will be creating our own

‘transient art’ in the outdoors. How many different colours

can we include?

L.O. I can make observational drawings. I can use new art materials.

We will be encouraging the children to use the outdoor clipboards and paper to

make observational drawings of the trees, plants and flowers. We will also

have a drawing area set up in doors where children can create their own art using

watercolour.

L.O. I can make a flower collage.

(Reception)

Using the pictures from ‘The Very Tiny Seed’ as inspiration, we will be

creating our own flower collages. First we will create the flowers and

leaves using watercolour paints, then we will cut

and stick them to another piece of paper to

assemble our flower.

L.O. I can make a flower collage. (Nursery)

Using the different art

materials we will create some beautiful, colourful

flowers!

Physical Development

The Reception children will continue their sessions with Premier Sport.

Don’t forget: It’s really important to practise recognising and writing your name every day. In school we complete our name cards when we arrive and we also label all the pictures and work we do in class. * Phonics Play & Purple Mash If you have forgotten your login details for either of these then please contact the school office.
