SCHOOL OF RELIGION NEWS WORK DAY FOR CONFIRMATION STUDENTS

Our Confirmation work day for all students receiving the

Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Saturday, May

25th, from 8am-1pm. Students must come with their sponsors

to the Rectory’s Parking Lot located on 42nd Street.

CONFIRMATION CANDIDATE PRACTICE

The practice for Confirmation Candidates will be held in the

Church at 6:30pm on Thursday, May 30th.

Need encouragement and support as you nurse your baby? Join NYU Lactation Services as they host a “Breastfeeding

Café” where mothers can nurse their baby with guidance

from an NYU Langone Health lactation consultant while

meeting other new moms!

The Breastfeeding Café will meet every Tuesday from

12pm-2pm in Room 11 of the Pope Francis Parish Center.

Today's Second Collection is for the ongoing "Repair and

Renovation" of our Church Buildings. The "R & R"

Collections will be helping us to pay for the Renovation of

the Pope Francis Center. We ask all parishioners to be as

ASCENSION THURSDAY - MAY 30, 2019 We will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord on

Thursday, May 30th. Three (3) bilingual Masses will be

celebrated on Wednesday, May 29th at 7:30pm, and on

Thursday, May 30th at 9:00am and 6:30pm. The Feast of

the Ascension is a Holy Day of obligation, meaning ALL

Catholics are supposed to attend Mass in celebration of this

important Feast.

ROSARY DURING THE MONTH OF MAY

Throughout the month of May, a month dedicated to the

Blessed Mother, the parish of St. Michael's will recite the

Holy Rosary before the 5pm and 7:30pm Masses on

Saturday, as well as before the 10am and 12pm Masses on

Sunday. All are invited to arrive to Mass earlier and join us

in praying the Rosary!

PARISH COUNCIL - THURSDAY, MAY 23RD Our next parish council meeting will be on THURSDAY,

MAY 23rd at 7:00pm in the Chapel. All are invited!

BEWARE OF SCAMS!

The Diocese of Brooklyn recently notified all parishes that

a new scam is going around where parishioners are

receiving text messages on behalf of their “pastor”, asking

for money. In all cases, the text messages were “signed”

with the pastor’s full name. PLEASE know that St.

Michael’s Church, and all Catholic Churches would

NEVER ask for donations via text message. At this time,

text messages are only used for simple communication

and reminders of meetings, etc. If you receive a text

message or email from a priest asking for help, please call

the Rectory at 718-768-6065 to let us know.

BLOOD DRIVE AT THE 72nd PRECINCT The New York Blood Center will host a

blood drive at the 72nd Precinct (830 4th

MEMORIAL DAY-MONDAY, MAY 27th The Rectory Office will be closed on Monday, May 27th, 2019 in honor of Memorial Day. There will be only one (Bilingual) Mass. There will be no evening Mass but the prayer group will meet at 7:00pm in the church.

DEACON PEDRO TO BE ORDAINED A PRIEST

On Saturday, June 1st, Bishop DiMarzio will ordain four new

priests for our Diocese. One of them will be Deacon Pedro

Angucho Lopez. Pedro has been a part of our parish family here

at St. Michael's for many years (since 2011). He will

celebrate his First Mass here with us on Sunday, June 2nd at

10:00am, followed by a Reception in the School Parking Lot.

Let us keep Pedro and his classmates in our prayers, especially

in these days as they prepare for Ordination to the Priesthood.

JUEVES DE ASCENSIÓN - 30 DE MAYO DE 2019 Celebraremos la fiesta de la Ascensión del Señor el jueves

30 de mayo. Tres (3) Misas bilingües se celebrarán el

miércoles 29 de mayo a las 7:30 pm, y el jueves 30 de

mayo a las 9:00 am y las 6:30 pm. La Fiesta de la

Ascensión es un día Santo de obligación, lo que significa

que TODOS los católicos deben asistir a misa en

celebración de esta importante Fiesta.

DIA DE RECORDACION La oficina de la Casa Parroquial estará cerrada el Lunes, 27 de Mayo, 2019 debido al día de Recordación. Habrá sólo una Misa (Bilingüe). No habrá Misa por la noche, pero el grupo de oración se reunirá a las 7pm en la Iglesia.

La Diócesis de Brooklyn notificó recientemente a todas las

parroquias que hay una nueva estafa en la que los

EL DIÁCONO PEDRO SERÁ ORDENADO SACERDOTE

El sábado 1 de junio, el Obispo DiMarzio ordenará cuatro

nuevos sacerdotes en nuestra Diócesis. Uno de ellos será el

diácono Pedro Angucho López. Pedro ha sido parte de nuestra

"familia parroquial" aquí en San Miguel durante muchos años

(desde 2011). Celebrará su "Primera Misa" aquí con nosotros el

domingo 2 de junio a las 10:00 am, seguido de una recepción en

el estacionamiento de la escuela. Mantengamos a Pedro y a sus

compañeros en nuestras oraciones, especialmente en estos días

mientras se preparan para la Ordenación al Sacerdocio.

Introducing the Marine Pilot Thomas Phelan, FDNY

Memorial Scholarship to benefit the youth of St. Michael’s Church

We thank the Phelan Family for sponsoring an additional “Memorial Scholarship” in memory of Marine Pilot Thomas Phelan,

FDNY. Thomas was a life-long parishioner of St. Michael’s Church,

born and raised in Sunset Park. On September 11, 2001, he helped

rescue survivors off of Manhattan Island while working as a Statue of Liberty ferry captain.

He joined the FDNY in May of 2003 and went on to be promoted as a Marine Pilot of the

Marine 9. Thomas passed away on March 16, 2018 after battling 9/11 related cancer. In

October of 2018, 40th Street between 4th and 5th Avenues was renamed in Thomas’ honor.

“Lights of Inspiration” scholarship fundraiser was held this Christmas. Today, we are able to offer

(4) scholarships in the amount of $2,500.00 each, to help the youth of St. Michael’s Church reach

their dreams. The Lights of Inspiration scholarships are available to all young people of St.

Michael's Church who are currently enrolled in or will be entering college in the fall of 2019.
