The direction of the flow!• The Nile is the longest

River in the world (4,000 miles)– That is farther then the

width of the U.S.• It flows NORTH! – Why? Water runs down

hill and the Nile is going down the hills of Africa from the mountains of Ethiopia.

Nile Delta and Cataract’s• Delta is a fan shaped area of silt (what makes the soil

rich or fertile) where the river splits into tributaries (branches) near where a river flows into the sea.

Shadoof• When the water receded, dug

out basins stored water to be used for irrigation

The shadoof is a bucket on a long poll that lifts water.

It helped to transfer the water that was stored and water from the Nile, into canals for irrigation
