Cash tills are ringing up a sweettune as most stores also enjoy abumper season.
Stanger SuperSpar, Checkers andBoxer Cash and Carry are some ofthe stores reporting favourablesales.
While the festive season mood isdefinitely bringing up the cheer, theKwaDukuza SAPS and the KwaDu-kuza traffic department are caution-ing people to enjoy themselves re-sponsibly.
Motorists are encouraged to drivesafely and arrive alive.
KwaDukuza assistant director fortraffic, Johnny Moodley, warneddrunken drivers that they will beshown no mercy.
“Offenders will spend Christmasand New Year’s day in jail whiletheir vehicles will be impounded.”
As visitors and tourists pour intoKwaDukuza, holidaymakers areurged to swim safely at beaches andheed warnings from lifeguards aswell as beach sign posts.
KwaDukuza mayor RicardoMthembu, on behalf of the munici-pal council and staff, extended sea-son’s greetings and best wishes to
the community and guests who arespending time in KwaDukuza.
“For me, Christmas has alwaysbeen a time for family and friends. An opportunity to take time out fromthe usual busyness and bustle of lifeand to spend quality time together, enjoying one another’s company.
“As I write this, I am reminded ofone of my favourite quotes, by PegBracken, which describes those giftswhich are most valuable this season:Gifts of time and love are surely thebasic ingredients of a truly merryChristmas.
“And so, I urge myself, not tostress too much about finding theperfect present, but to focus on giv-ing family and friends the gift of mytime and affections this Christmas. Iurge you to join me in this resolu-tion, and have a truly merry Christ-mas,” the mayor said.
Mthembu added that Christmasmay be a happy time for some butcan be a difficult and lonely time formany people in the community.
“Many families in KwaDukuzaare struggling financially, and soChristmas is more of a burden thana joy, and others find themselvesalone, or missing loved ones whoare no longer here.
“I also encourage you to considerthe way you can share the gifts oftime and love with these people thisChristmas.
“Perhaps by visiting an elderly
neighbour, inviting someone fordinner who would otherwise bealone, or donating food to the poor. And, may you in doing so, have awonderful Christmas.”
ilembe District mayor WelcomeMdabe also wished the people ofiLembe a happy and peaceful Christ-mas along with a safe and prosper-ous New Year.
“For many in our district, it hasbeen a challenging year particularlyfor those affected by the floods, theloss of employment and the econom-ic recession.
“The heartening aspect of theseevents is the capacity that the peopleof iLembe District have in pulling to-gether as a community to help eachother out.
“Christmas is no exception. It is atime of peace and goodwill, whenthe spiritual and cultural messagesstand tall. We are reminded of thetrue Christmas message of humilityand generosity towards each other,”said Mdabe.
The mayor went on to say: “Welive in a district that is vibrant andbeautiful in every respect.
“It is the role of your council tocontinue to make our district saferand more prosperous whilst respect-ing our community.
“I believe 2014 will see the dis-trict move forward and be a placethat you will continue to be proud tolive in and call home,” he said.

Senior citizens club for Mandeni
NOTHANDO NDLOVU
THE Mandeni Senior CitizensClub was successfullylaunched at the Sibusisiwe
Community Hall in Sundumbili re-cently to commemorate the “16Days” campaign.
Speaking at the event, localcouncillor Nompumelelo Zungusaid the 16 Days campaign isaimed at combating abuse andrape of all vulnerable members ofsociety, particularly women, chil-dren and the eldery.
She urged the youth to respecttheir elders and visa-versa.
She said that government urgesthe elderly to live a healthy lifestyleby engaging in sporting activitiessuch as soccer, netball and athleticsand not forgetting to jog to keeptheir bodies healthy and strong.
In his address, mayor SiphesihleZulu lamented the fact that there isa lot to be done to develop people’slives, stating that senior citizensshould lead themselves in order toknow what they run short of.
“As the council we are encourag-ing the elders to work as one unitso that they will be able to discussand solve their problems commu-nally,” he said.
“By thiswe listen to the residentsand citizens of Mandeni and re-spond to the problems they are fac-ing.”
He also urged the senior citizensnot to buy stolen goods from theyouth as this plays a pivotal role inperpetuating crime.
Zulu further asked that seniorcitizens formulate their own socialclubs as these are the right places todiscuss challenges such as the rapeof elders and children, and drugabuse by the youth.
The senior citizens committeethat was launched consisted of onemember from each ward.

Kubheka asked that people notonly engage about Madiba’s passingthrough social media but, “go outthere and make a difference.”
He urged people to attend PPFmeetings and to make a positivechange in the growth of the country, saying it is not only the mayor, pre-mier or the president’s job to do so.
“We have abdicated our responsi-bility. We need to assist local govern-ment.
“What does your conscience saywhen you see an elderly man orwoman who lives in a shack anddoesn’t have food to eat this Christ-
mas? When are we going to ploughback? We are what we are becauseof them.”
PPF has pledged to “uncompro-misingly” embrace and fulfil all thatis listed in the freedom charter, to
tant to look at leaders likeMadiba fora true definition. He could have ac-cepted the chieftaincy and become achief and a lawyer but he chose tobe greater than that.
“I look at him as a special fruit
we benefitted from which was un-plugged from the tree.
However the tree which is theANC is still there.” Sithole empha-sised that it is difficult tobethe Man-dela that is now an icon but very
easy to be a Mandela who grew upin Qunu and got his hands dirtyduring the struggle.
KDM staff and members of thepublic were also given a chance tosign a condolence book at the event.

LEADING UK fashion designer Henry Holland, whohas a heart for art and community, visited art students from Zilungisele Primary School in KwaDukuza last week.
Holland first travelled to South Africa in 2012,a year after his friend and international modelAgyness Deyn, visited the RedCap Foundation.
Last year Henry assisted the Foundation byraising much needed funds for the RedCap schoolsarts and dance programme called Iciko.
Through the sales of his limitededition Tshirtcollaboration with Mr Price , the arts and danceclasses could be refurbished. His sheer delight inseeing the classroom upgrades for the first timecould not be contained.
“I saw so many designers in the art class!” saida delighted Holland, while interacting with thegrade four to seven learners who joined the designer in creating their own fashion drawings using hisprinted dresses as a base for figurines.
“The creativity of the kids knows no boundsand they’re not constricted in any way, they’rejust so excited by everything,” said Holland.
“It’s so exciting to be back and to see whatthe funds from last year’s project has helped build.I hope that the RedCap Foundation continues itsamazing work in improving the education standardin South African schools, “ added Holland.
Earlier in the year, Mr Price associates from thegraphics, visual merchandising and trend departments all dedicated a full day to paint beautifulmurals to add much needed life and colour into theclassrooms. The humble school hall was transformed into a lively music, dance and drama roomand an old classroom into an art centre.
“Arts, drama, dance and music is not such ahigh priority in most low income communityschools so it was wonderful to be a part of creatinga space that allows children to be inspired and creative,” said Mr Price associate Lorraine Parkes.

Hanging out with a group of people can make us feel comfortable, but is it allowing you to bring
out the “real” you?Sometimes when we hang out or
join a group of friends, we begin to loseour own identity as we adapt to the
group’s identity.
What the “ group” may want todo, isn’t always our plan of action, yet we follow the plan because wewant to belong to that group.
Following friends can sometimeschange our likes, dislikes, habits andresponsibilities, so we have to decide where to draw the line.Nobody else can decide how you
can be the best you want to be, besides you.
Whether it is a best friend, group of friends or girlfriend orboyfriend, we should still remember our
own identity is important and weshouldn’t just become known as somebody’s friend or somebody’s partner.
To develop your own identity, it isimportant to have a good understanding of yourself as a person, know aboutyour personality and character, how tobuild it and improve it and how tobroaden your knowledge by concentrating on hobbies you as a person like, notyour group of friends.Nobody said that spending some quali
ty time by yourself means that youhave no friends; in fact all of us should
indulge in some “me” time and learnmore about ourselves and our interests.
Some people rate friendships toohighly, which could prove to be theirdownfall, because sometimes friendscan lead you down the wrong path, orinfluence you to such an extent thatyou lose the “real” you in theprocess.
I’m sure there is nothing worse thanhaving someone who you regard as a
“friend” be the one to bring you downand change your whole world around.
Remember in future to always be
yourself and focus on you, becausenobody else in the world has thepower to make or break you, besidesyou. So be yourself, make yourself
strong and always bring out yourbest to deal with everything that lifecan throw at you.
Have a story for me on how youbrought out the best in yourself?
Or how somebody stopped you frombringing out the best in yourself? Email
IT’S kind of funny to keepwatching people who wantthings to come easy to them inlife.
Many other people know ofthis tendency among human be-ings, so they keep selling themdiet pills that let them eat what-ever they want, job informationthat will make them rich withno effort, college “degrees” thatrequire no study at all, andmany other “easy” fixes to theirproblems and easy fulfillment oftheir desires.
But over and over againthese people who want the easyways out are disappointed, forwhat they hoped and expectedwould help them, simply has leftthem still faced with their prob-lems and now with a little lessmoney in their pockets.
Saying that “nothing comeseasy” isn’t at all defeatist orcynical.
It’s a fact that’ s been provedover and over in life, as majorscientific breakthroughs comeafter years and years of re-search and hard work; financialstability comes after years ofsacrifice and effort; great mov-ies and albums are made withthe most effort and practice andplanning and preparation.
Colonel Sanders had to visitover 100 restaurants before hesold his recipe for fried chicken, and that came after years ofperfecting that recipe.
Richard Bach received over70 rejections for Jonathan Liv-
ingston Seagull, and that was af-ter all the time and effort it tookhim to write the book.
Thomas Edison, the lightbulb inventor, made over 3000attempts before he finally foundthe perfect formula to invent alight bulb that actually worked!
History is full of examples ofgreat successes and great re-sults after a lot of effort andtime.
There are, of course, the ex-ceptions - those people whohave found success almost im-mediately, with almost no workinvolved. But they truly are theexceptions rather than the rule.
And that type of successrarely is lasting, either.
When we remind ourselvesthat nothing truly worthwhilecomes easy, we can face our ob-stacles and problems remainingcalm and undisturbed, and wecan be much more calm in theface of setbacks.
When we know that it’s go-ing to take time and work toreach a goal, we’ re much morelikely to accept delays as neces-sary elements of the process, and we’re much more likely tosee obstacles as learning oppor-tunities rather than back-break-ers.
Keeping in mind that noth-ing comes easy, we can give ourbest effort because we knowthat it’s that effort - as well asthe time involved - that’s goingto craft a fine finishedproduct.

WEEKLY
NELSON Mandela has departed to join Chief AlbertLuthuli, Oliver Tambo, Lillian Ngoyi, Yusuf Dadooand other warriors who never surrendered princi
ples, moral values and ethics.Mandela was a member of the league with Luthuli,
Patrice Lumumba, Amilcar Cabral, Augostinoh Neto, Fidel Castro, Eloef Palmer, Julius Nyerere, Martin LutherKing and Lenin.
While it is important to sing songs to this hero, to writepoems and create slogans around his services to the people, we must never portray him as a saint, a warning orcaution that Dennis Goldberg, Ahmen Kathrada andGeorge Bizos always remind us of.
Mandela, Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Matthew Meyiwa, Zakhele Mdlalose, Wilton Mkwayi spent a long timein jail to set us free.
These accused who were sentenced at different timesby an apartheid state were able to convince the “oldguard” of Luthuli, Moses Kotane, Dadoo, Ismail Meer andothers that the time has come to adopt another tactic, the taking up of arms to defend our people in the sameway Kings Cetshwayo, Bambatha, Sekhukhuni, Mzilikazi,
Moshoeshoe, Hintsa, Luka Jantjie, Galeshewe did before1912.
After the sentencing of Rivonia trialists, Chief Luthulireferred to them as “brave men”. The push for an armedstruggle came mainly from the youth, SACTU and SACPwhich had been banned in 1950 through the Suppressionof Communism Act.
It is under Chief Albert Luthuli that mass struggles likeconsumer boycotts, stayaways, banning of “dompasses”, rent boycott, closing down of beer halls and ultimately the Defiance Campaign of 1952.
Mandela was a chief volunteer in the Defiance Campaign and became a chief volunteer in the armed as firstchief commander of MK. The mass struggle also gavebirth to SACTU, Congress of Democrats, Coloured People’s Congress, Federation of South African Women andthe Freedom Charter.
The triumvirate of Mandela, Sisulu and Tambo wasa layer of leadership to take ANC into new heights. Today, they are the mirror that we use in evaluating the leadership that we have today.
Blessed are peace makers. Mandela was militant but
disciplined.Even at the Rivonia trial he did not insult judges. While
he was a lawyer by profession, he was not a theoreticianlike Govan Mbeki, Michael Harmel, Joe Matthews, Slovoand others, he lacked deeper understanding of HIV/AIDSand agenda of pharmaceutical companies whose mainagenda is to profit from this endemic and using Africansas guineapigs in research.
As we immortalise Madiba we must understand himin the context of the collective leadership and as an ordinary human being who is fallible like me and you. Hepassed on at a time when society battles with many challenges including attack on our moral values. For the pastfour weeks and on the day he passed on, some in the ANCwere throwing stones at the Public Protector like sinnerswho stoned Stephen in the Bible.
They want to create a state of thieves which servicestheir greed than people.
Mandela, a member of the ANC belongs to all of usespecially South Africans who are combatants againstcorruption, sexism, racism and xenophobia.

Remembering Madiba’s legacy
THE DA’s recent support of the Employment EquityBill is a slap in the face for minority groups namelyIndians and Whites.
The Employment Equity Bill that was formulatedsome 20 years ago for the purpose of bringing aboutequity in the workplace, although controversial, hasserved its purpose. Twenty years into democracy, there is no need for such a Bill as employees shouldbe employed according to their knowledge, capability, experience and expertise.
It is common knowledge to all South Africans thatthe country has lost many talented academics at theworkplace due to being sidelined through the Employment Equity Bill.
Many have immigrated and settled in foreignlands, leaving the country with a shortage of skilledemployees.
Ironically, the ANC imports many professionalsinto South Africa, while our South Africans leave thecountry.
The Employment Equity Bill has robbed many Indians of job opportunities and ultimately their monetary worth.
Many individuals in the workplace are demotivatedas junior employees, who are lesser qualified, becomebosses of long serving experienced employees.
The DA support of the Employment Equity Bill isa clear indication of the lack of understanding of theneeds of the minority communities.
This is one more reason why the Minority Front hasa place in the modern South African democracy. TheMF is the only voice of the minority community.

EDITORIAL COMMENT
GOD gave SA Mabida because He knew that only puregreatness can extricate this country from the shacklesof an unjust system.
Your resilience and unwavering determination in theface of adversity has earned you the title of the son ofAfrica and icon of the world.
I am blessed to be born in an era knowing that a giant
and legend of the century has walked on this earth. As South Africans celebrate the remarkable legacy
of one of the greatest men born in this world, weneed to advocate and reinforce his teachings of a corruption free nation.
As we move into the future without Tata, let us beconfident knowing that his teachings and status asa liberation struggle hero globally will live on forever.
Madiba, you mentioned thatyouentrust the remaining years of your life to the people of South Africa. Yourwork on this earth is done.
You have laid the foundation and building blocks
for all South Africans to embrace your ideals of afree, nonracial democratic country.
As a country and nation we can never allow the sacrifices you made and your ideals and aspirations to be invain. God has blessed South Africa with an abundanceof mineral resources such as iron ore, coal and gold butthe greatest blessing God was the legend Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
You have stated Tata that: “When a man has donewhat he considers to be his duty to his people and hiscountry, he can rest in peace.” Hamba kahle Madiba.
