We then rented a car and began the most wonderful road trip which covered 5 countries! When I travel I love to visit churches, shrines and monasteries and get into the history of the place where I am visiting and enjoy the rich heritage. On Monday we drove over the mountains from Poland Slovakia, where we stayed in the second city Kosice. All I can say about Kosice is who knew amazing! It was an old city. I celebrated Mass in the Cathedral built in the 13 th century. After Mass we climbed the tower and viewed the city that used to be an important outpost in the Austrian Hungarian empire. On Tuesday, August. 2 nd we crossed the border into Hungry and drove 3 hours to the magnificent city of Budapest. This beautiful old city was originally 2 towns, Budha and Pest which in the 1800’s was joined by a bridge and thus became an important city in the Austrian Hungarian empire. I celebrated Mass at the ancient Basilica of St. Steven and we spent a delightful evening roaming around the city. On Wednesday, August 3 rd , I celebrated Mass at an old Benedictine Abbey called Pannonhalna built high above the hills of Budapest. That evening we took a cruise on the Danube and took in the city by night. On August 5 th we drove 3 hours to the city of Vienna and spent the afternoon exploring the city. I celebrated Mass at the beautiful Cathedral of St. Steven. I met pilgrims from WYD from the Middle East, Philippines, India and Kentucky who joined us for Holy Mass. On August 6 th we visited the gorgeous Palace of the last Emperor of Austria, The Schonbrunn Palace. We then left for the city of Salzburg. On the way we crossed the Danube and I celebrated Mass in the beautiful old Abbey of Melk. We arrived in Salzburg in the late evening. On August 7 th I celebrated Mass at the Cathedral of Salzburg after which we explored the old castle and spent the rest of the day bicycling around the beautiful lake district where the Sound of Music was made. On Monday the 8 th we crossed the border into Germany and enjoyed the drive on the Auto bahn as we speed toward the city of Munich. This area of Bavaria is predominately Catholic and is the most beautiful part of Germany. It’s an area of rolling hills, fertile land and friendly people. Between Monday and Friday we enjoyed the beautiful city of Munich. I celebrated daily Mass at the Cathedral of St. Peter. On Thursday, we visited the home of Pope Benedict. His father had been a police constable in the town of Marktl and he grew up living above the office. We visited the church of St. Oswald where he was baptized. During our last few days in Bavaria, we enjoyed the beauty of the countryside and the elegant cosmopolitan city of Munich. I flew home on Friday, August 12 th full of energy and happy to return to the parish which I love. As a priest, it is a wonderful treat to be able to visit religious sights, immersed into history and gain the insight from prayer and space how to best lead and direct souls to God. Father Owen

Twentiy-First Sunday in Ordinary Time August 21, 2016
At 6:30am on Monday, August 1st, Stephanie, Alex and I waved off our pilgrims
as they began the long journey back to East Hanover. We then rented a car and began
the most wonderful road trip which covered 5 countries!
When I travel I love to visit churches, shrines and monasteries and get into the
history of the place where I am visiting and enjoy the rich heritage. On Monday we
drove over the mountains from Poland Slovakia, where we stayed in the second city Kosice. All I can say
about Kosice is who knew amazing! It was an old city. I celebrated Mass in the Cathedral built in the

century. After Mass we climbed the tower and viewed the city that used to be an important outpost
in the Austrian Hungarian empire.
On Tuesday, August. 2nd
we crossed the border into Hungry and drove 3 hours to the magnificent
city of Budapest. This beautiful old city was originally 2 towns, Budha and Pest which in the 1800’s was
joined by a bridge and thus became an important city in the Austrian Hungarian empire. I celebrated
Mass at the ancient Basilica of St. Steven and we spent a delightful evening roaming around the city.
On Wednesday, August 3rd
, I celebrated Mass at an old Benedictine Abbey called Pannonhalna
built high above the hills of Budapest. That evening we took a cruise on the Danube and took in the city
by night.
On August 5th
we drove 3 hours to the city of Vienna and spent the afternoon exploring the city. I
celebrated Mass at the beautiful Cathedral of St. Steven. I met pilgrims from WYD from the Middle

SACRAMENTS Baptism
We celebrate the sacrament of Baptism most Sundays. Parents are welcome to have the Baptism celebrated either at a week-end Mass or at the Liturgy of Baptism at 1:15. To make arrangements for Baptism please call Father Owen or Fr. Matthew. Godparents must be confirmed and be active members of the church and attend Mass regularly.
Sacrament of Reconciliation Every Saturday at 4:45 – 5:15 (or by appointment with Fr. Owen or Fr. Matthew).
Sacrament of Marriage Please contact Fr. Owen or Fr. Mathew and set up an appointment. Any Catholic couple needs approximately a year to prepare for the Sacrament of Marriage, which includes sessions with the Priest celebrating the marriage and attendance at Pre-Cana conferences.
Sacrament of the Sick / Hospital Visits At St. Rose we are strongly committed to the spiritual care of the sick. Because of privacy laws, hospitals and nursing homes are not allowed to release the patient’s religious affiliation. Therefore, we must depend on families of our sick parishioners to inform us of their whereabouts and condition. Please notify the parish office of any need for a home or hospital visit.
RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a program for people who seek full initiation in the Catholic Church through the reception of the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation, which are received at Easter Vigil. For information, please contact Fr. Owen or Fr. Matthew at the parish office.
