ST. ROBERT’S CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP
We meet every Tuesday evening at 7:30pm in St. Robert Family Room (new location) to give thanks and praise to God for all our many blessings. This Meeting is open to everyone in the Parish, new members are welcome!
YES! IT’S PICNIC TIME AGAIN! St. Robert Bellarmine Church will host a gala picnic for physically challenged people on Saturday, July 14th from 11:00AM to 7:00PM. This is the annual event started by Father John Nees 50 years ago.
We need 100 volunteers to make this picnic a success! Think about donating a few hours at this annual party.
Sign-up sheets will be available after all masses this weekend and next weekend. Also, donated desserts will be needed and greatly appreciated. Please volunteer.
We are in desperate need for new chairpersons to plan the picnic. Several of our chairpersons have died of old age in recent years. Most of the chairpersons are well past retirement age. To continue this picnic, we need to replace the chairpersons who need to retire.

THE MET CLOISTERS (Part of the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art) — On Wednesday, August 8th
St. Robert Bellarmine Parish we will join Nativity parish on a trip to this beautiful location in New York.
The Met Cloisters, located on four acres overlooking the
Hudson River in northern Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park, is the
branch of the Museum dedicated to the art, architecture,
and gardens of medieval Europe. Deriving its name from
the medieval cloisters that form the core of the building, it
presents a harmonious and evocative setting for more than
2,000 exceptional artworks and architectural elements from
the medieval West. Information and registration will be in
next weeks bulletin and in the Narthex.

The Courage to Evangelize (to go forth each day trying to be the good news of Jesus Christ in word and deed!)
Sometimes as Catholics we don’t embrace the word “evangelize” for many reasons. Maybe we are concerned with
unpopular connotations of the word. This summer ask the Lord for the courage to evangelize in little ways. Here
are few suggestions to ponder and act upon:
Be hospitable As a baby step for would-be-Catholic evangelists, we don’t have to go very far to go start. If, for
example, we just started talking to strangers at Mass on Sunday, we would be doing a lot of evangelizing. Every week,
your parish attracts seekers. Someone shows up hoping for a connection to the Holy or wishing for a ray of light in their
lives. They don’t walk up to you and say, “Hi there. I need some spiritual support to warm my heart.” They come in late,
sit in the back pew, and leave early. Going forth into the night to evangelize can be as simple as walking to the back
pew and saying hello.
Be merciful Lots of Catholics tense up when you start talking about evangelization. They worry you will want them
to say something about Jesus to the person behind them in line at the movie theater. Here is a simple, non-threatening
way to evangelize. Go forgive someone. Pope Francis said that evangelization is taking the awareness of God’s merci-
ful love to those who need it. So go be merciful and encourage your parishioners to be merciful.
Be joyful Finally, you can evangelize by smiling more. Mass is a great place to start! Have you ever wondered
about whether someone was happy by watching their facial expression? Sometimes people look bored or displeased.
Pope Francis said:
“Consequently, an evangelizer must never look like someone who has just come back from a funeral! … And may the world of our
time, which is searching, sometimes with anguish, sometimes with hope, be enabled to receive the good news not from
evangelizers who are dejected, discouraged, impatient or anxious, but from ministers of the Gospel whose lives glow
with fervor, who have first received the joy of Christ”. —Evangelii Gaudium
Be courageous A Catholic evangelist might go out and knock on strangers’ doors, but most of us are not going to do
that. Even so, we are called to be courageous, going out into the “night” of other people’s lives to bring the light and
hope of Christ. We will have to get outside our comfort zones to do that, but we don’t have to start too far outside the
zone. Baby steps will do for now. The important thing is to have the courage to take the step.
What is the next courageous you can take??

THE CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL FOR 2018~ “60 YEARS OF GIVING HOPE TO ALL” With few exceptions, all of us can trace our ancestry to immigrants who came to America for a better life for themselves and their families. This is still true today. Philadelphia has long been a destination of immigrants around the world. The largest proportion of immigrants to the Philadelphia area is from Asia, and the fastest growing immigrant community is from Latin America. These are Catholics living in a new place, struggling to make a new home.
The Church of Philadelphia is blessed by this diversity and takes a variety of steps to meet the pastoral needs of immigrants. Through the Office of Cultural Ministries, pastoral care is provided to nearly
20 ethnic and language apostolates. Just as the Church was there to help the first wave of European immigrants gain access to a better life in America, so now the Church continues to meet the pastoral and spiritual needs for the next generation.
We are currently at the 162% mark of our $71,901 goal with $116,136 from 427 contributors out of approximately 2,300 families in our Parish. Our donations go a long way in GIVING HOPE TO ALL. Thank you to all who have contributed thus far. Pledge forms are located in the Narthex and the side entrance. Donations can be dropped in the collection basket or mailed directly to CCA. Please do not mail cash.
