This assembly is an annual meeting of the bishops of our country where they discuss important issues in the American Church and in the Church at large. A primary topic on this year’s agenda is the issue of clergy sexual abuse in the American Church. The Plenary Assembly begins tomorrow, and in an effort to once again reach out pasto- rally to the faithful of our diocese and to remind us of the good work that has been done in the Diocese of Portland in regards to the protection of children, Bishop Deeley has written the at- tached letter for your review. Please keep Bishop Deeley and all the bishops in prayer this week. Should you choose to make an act of penance/sacrifice, please offer it for a successful assembly and positive action towards further eliminating clergy sexual abuse in the Church. With prayers for your holiness and God’s abundant blessings, Fr. Philip Clement “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” – Luke 5:4 P.O.
