Father Bob’s Corner . . . Dear Friends,

The Lord opened their minds, Alleluia! The Lord opened their minds, Alleluia! The Lord opened their minds, Alleluia! The Lord opened their minds, Alleluia! That they might understand the Scriptures, Alleluia! That they might understand the Scriptures, Alleluia! That they might understand the Scriptures, Alleluia! That they might understand the Scriptures, Alleluia! Jesus wants us to know him and know about him. We don’t all have to be scripture scholars, but the Holy Scriptures do help us to acquire a greater understanding of our faith. It is a joy to see Catholics alive in our faith and knowledgeable of Scripture. But it is sad that many Catholics still do not understand how their relationship with God in faith would blossom through a greater understanding of the Bible. Let us pray for each other and ask God to give us the help of the Holy Spirit to want to know Scripture better. My recent five days away were enjoyable. There were a few work items that needed my attention, but because the environment away was more restful, I was able to deal with them okay. I was able to visit some friends that I hadn’t seen for awhile. The last time I saw my friend Keri, from Australia, was in 2008 – on her last vacation to the States. We were able to visit twice this time. I showed her the bald eagles on Lipley Road. That was a treat for both of us, since I had not been there previously. The month of May is traditionally devoted to our Blessed Mother, Mary. Of course, that means that we try to get around to praying the Rosary, if we are not in the habit of praying it daily. There are other Marian prayers connected to various Marian apparitions and devotions. The newest devotion seems to be Mary, Undoer of Knots! (see the website www.maryundoerofknots.com/history.htm for more information.) The world in which we live seems to be entanglesd in many knots, but Mary, with motherly care, unties the knotted strands of our lives that we bring to her. More of the 56 Ways to Be Merciful During the Jubilee Year of Mercy: 26) Have alternative drinks, other than water, for times when those who have been struggling with alcohol come to visit. 27) Take advantage of sales to buy small toothpastes, soaps, shampoos, socks and feminine products/toiletries; donate them to parish outreaches, or make gift bags and have them ready to hand out where needed. 28) Create a short end-of-day ritual to ask for (and extend) forgiveness with those you live with. “Do not let the sun set on your anger” (Eph. 4:26). 29) Make a list of your “enemies.” Then, every day, say a prayer for them. See more at: http://aleteia.org/2015/12/07/54-ways-to-be-merciful-during-the-jubiliee-year-of-mercy/ Let us enjoy this Feast of the Ascension and pray for a deeper relationship with the Holy Spirit! Come Holy Spirit! Lord Jesus, help us to be “Merciful Like the Father.”

Happy Mother’s Day to all are Mothers. Be good to your Mother! With love and prayers, Father Bob Edwards

Encountering Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration

It is impossible in human terms to exaggerate the importance of being in adoration before the Eucharist, as often and for as long as our duties and state of life allow. -(Fr. John Hardon)

Merciful Mother of God

Mary, the Mother of Mercy, may the sweetness of your countenance watch over us in this Year of Mercy, so that all of us may rediscover the joy of God’s tenderness. No one has penetrated the profound mystery of the Incarnation like Mary. Her entire life was patterned after the presence of mercy, made flesh. The Mother of the Crucified and Risen One, because she participated intimately in the mystery of His love, shares His love with us.

Ascension of Our Lord 9.The Ascension occurred 40 days

after Jesus Christ rose from the dead on Easter, & is the final act of our redemption that Christ be-gan on Good Friday. On this day, the risen Christ, in the sight of His apostles, ascended bodily into Heaven. The reality of Christ’s Ascension is so important that the creeds of Christianity all affirm, in the Apostles’ Creed, that “He as-cended into heaven, sits at the

right hand of God the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead”. The deni-al of the Ascension is as grave a departure from Chris-tian teaching as is denial of Christ’s Resurrection.
