EAT 12 GRAPES BEFORE THE NEW YEAR The most widespread and popular belief is that the custom of eating 12

grapes to the rhythm of the bells comes from some astute farmers in the

Mediterranean area. More specifically from the Alicante area. Before the large excessive of grapes that took place around 1909, approximate-

ly, began to spread this custom that soon became popular among the

Spanish people. But taking the 12 grapes still has one more meaning.

Each grape represents a wish to fulfill. So you have to try to eat all the grapes so that none of them are left unfulfilled.

The life of the Holy Family We had already alluded to the meaning of the "mystery" of the Incarnation, that is, how Jesus, assuming human nature, purifies and sanctifies it, in contact with his divinity, in his being and in his institutions. "Along with the assumption of humanity, in Christ everything that is human is 'assumed', in particular, the family, as the first dimension of his existence on earth." "In it is contained a consequence of the hypostatic union: hu-manity assumed in the unity of the divine person of the Word-Son, Jesus Christ" (RC, n. 21). We have also stopped on the importance and meaning, both in the plan of creation and of redemption, of marriage, and in particular that of Mary and

The family of Nazareth, inserted directly into the mystery of the Incarnation, consti-tutes a special mystery” (RC, n. 21) "The family of Nazareth in the order of salvation and holiness is an example and model for human families" (n.22). It is enough to think that Jesus grew up in him: “The growth of Jesus 'in wisdom, age and grace' (Lk 2, 52) takes place within the family, in the sight of Joseph” (n.16). On June 14, 1992, the centenary of the Apostolic Letter "Néminem fúgit" of Leo XIII, written to increase the cult of the Holy Family, was celebrated. Well, it is not possible to effectively promote the holiness of the Christian family without a true knowledge and imitation of the Holy Family, which is by nature "the prototype and example of all Christian families" (RC, n.7). Hence the demand that theologians apply themselves to deepen the theology of the Holy Family in the light of the mystery of the Incarnation and that pastoral care, in turn, disseminate the practice of the consecration of families and individuals to the Holy Nazareth family. A theology of the fam-ily is not possible without a theology of the Holy Family: the Holy Family, in fact, is not only a point of reference or an excellent example to imitate, but a saving mystery!

COMER 12 UVAS ANTES DEL AÑO NUEVO

La creencia más extendida y popular es que la costumbre de to-mar 12 uvas al ritmo de las campanas viene de unos avispados agricultores de la zona del Mediterráneo. Más concretamente de la zona de Alicante. Antes los grandes excedentes de uva que tu-vieron en el lugar allá por el año 1909, aproximadamente, empe-

zaron a difundir esta costumbre que pronto calo entre el pueblo español. Pero tomar las 12 uvas aún tiene un significado más. Cada uva representa un deseo por cumplir. Por lo que hay que tratar de comerse todas las uvas para que no quede ninguno de ellos sin cumplir.

La vida de la Sagrada Familia Ya habíamos aludido al significado del “misterio” de la Encarnación, o sea cómo Jesús, asumiendo la naturaleza humana, la purifica y la santifica, al contacto de su divinidad, en su ser y en sus instituciones. “Junto con la asun-ción de la humanidad, en Cristo está también ´asumido´ todo lo que es hu-mano, en particular, la familia, como primera dimensión de su existencia en la tierra”. “En ello está contenida una consecuencia de la unión hipostática: la humanidad asumida en la unidad de la persona divina del Verbo-Hijo, Je-sucristo” (RC, n. 21). Nos hemos también detenido sobre la importancia y el significado, sea en el plan de la creación como de la redención, del matrimonio, y en particular de

lo de María y José: “El Salvador ha iniciado la obra de la salvación con esta unión virginal y santa, en la que se manifiesta su omnipotente voluntad de purificar y santificar la familia, santuario de amor y cuna de la vida´. ¡Cuántas enseñanzas se derivan de todo esto para la familia! Porque la esencia y el cometido de la familia son definidos en última instancia por el amor´ y `la familia recibe la misión de custodiar, revelar y comunicar el amor, como reflejo vivo y real del amor de Dios por la humanidad y del amor de Cristo Señor por la Iglesia su esposa; es en la sagrada Familia, en esta originaria iglesia doméstica´, donde todas las familias cristianas deben mirarse. En efecto `por un misterioso designio de Dios, en ella vivió escondido largo años el Hijo de Dios: es pues el prototipo y ejemplo de todas las familias cristianas`” (RC, n.7). “Este vínculo de caridad---así es definido el matrimonio de José y María---constituyó la vida de la sagrada Familia, primero en la pobreza de Belén, luego en el exilio a Egipto, y sucesivamente, en Na-zaret. La Iglesia rodea de profunda veneración esta familia, proponiéndola como modelo para todas las familias. La familia de Nazaret, inserta directamente en el misterio de la Encarnación, constituye un misterio especial” (RC, n. 21) “La familia de Nazaret en el orden de la salvación y de la santidad es ejemplo y modelo para las fami-lias humanas” (n.22). Es suficiente pensar que en ella creció Jesús: “El crecimiento de Jesús `en sabi-duría, edad y gracia´ (Lc 2,52) se desarrolla en el ámbito de la familia, a la vista de José” (n.16). El 14 de junio de 1992 se ha celebrado el centenario de la Carta apostólica “Néminem fúgit” de León XIII, escrita para incrementar el culto a la Sagrada Familia. Pues bien, no es posible promover eficaz-mente la santidad de la familia cristiana sin un verdadero conocimiento e imitación de la santa Fami-lia, que es por naturaleza “el prototipo y ejemplo de todas las familias cristianas” (RC, n.7). De aquí nace la exigencia que los teólogos se apliquen a profundizar la teología de la Sagrada Familia a la luz del misterio de la Encarnación y que la pastoral, a su vez difunda la práctica de la consagra-ción de las familias y de los individuos a la santa Familia de Nazaret. Una teología de la familia no es posible sin una teología de la Sagrada Familia: la Sagrada Familia, en efecto, no es sólo un punto de referencia o un eximio ejemplo a imitar, ¡sino un misterio salvífico
