St. Mary’s Church, Bloomington. Sharing Our Blessings Thank you to everyone who supports our parishes with their time, talents and financial support! May God continue to bless you for your generosity and kindness. Please pray for the financial health of our parishes and that all members will generously share the many blessings that God has given them with our parishes.

Fr. John’s Notes: Both today and next Sunday the Gospel readings describe Jesus calling his disciples. In today’s passage from John, John the Baptist leads two of his disciples to Jesus. Jesus invites them to follow him and they do, choosing not only to remain with

him but also to invite others in turn. In the first reading, Samuel is called to serve the Lord and he too responds affirmatively. The Lord continually calls to us. How do we respond?

THE LAMB OF GOD “Behold the Lamb of God!” We hear this phrase every Sunday at Mass, but there’s a good chance that many Roman Catholics do not know who in the Bible originally spoke it. The phrase appears only in the Gospel of John, on the lips of John the Baptist, who utters it twice. In today’s Gospel reading, John proclaims Jesus as the Lamb of God, and two of John’s own disciples then follow Christ. A little bit later Andrew, who heard John and then followed Jesus, brings his brother Simon to be re-named Cephas, or Peter. A careful look at these Bible verses shows us the mission of everyone baptized into the Body of Christ: we must always proclaim our faith in Christ, so that others will follow him. We may not know how the will of God might work through those we bring to Christ; that is not the point. The point is that our ongoing mission as a Church is to bring others to Christ, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Our Mission/Vocation: Through our baptism, God calls us all to live our faith and seek our vocation to become a deacon, priest, religious sister, married or single person. Perhaps God is calling you to the priesthood or consecrated life. Let us have the courage to follow our heart. We are all called to love and serve Him and one another as our true vocation. As we continue to walk in the light of Christ and to serve our Lord with our whole heart, mind and soul, may we be filled with the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and seek to forgive all who have hurt us. All Catholics are encouraged to: 1. Take time to pray for vocations to the priesthood and consecrated life. 2. Reflect on our own vocation and strengthen our personal relationship with Christ. 3. Educate our young people about the importance of silent prayer and taking time to truly listen to God's voice in our hearts. 4.Talk about vocations with our family members. 5.Attend Mass every Sunday as a family.

Prayer for Vocations: O Father, you desire all of us to be happy.

Stir up the grace of a religious vocation in the hearts of many men and women.

Grant to them the willingness and generosity to give of themselves, their lives, their time and their

talents to the service of Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord and Savior, and to His Holy Church.

May more men and women go forth as priests, deacons, brothers and sisters to bring the truths of our Catholic faith to all others so that soon they, too, may know You better

and love You more... and serving You, be truly happy. Amen.

Reflection “Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, ‘What are you looking for?’” - John 1:38 What are you looking for? Are you wasting your time looking for the material comforts of the world? Or, is your heart longing for something deeper that can only be found by spending time with God? Take time, each day, in silence and ask the Lord what it is that He wants you to do.

Celebrate Life

“Life is always a good. … Why is life a good? This question is found everywhere in the Bible, and from the very first pages it receives a pow-erful and amazing answer. The life which God

gives man is quite different from the life of all other living creatures, inasmuch as man, although formed from the dust of the earth (cf. Gen 2:7, 3:19; Job 34:15; Ps 103:14; 104:29), is a manifestation of God in the world, a sign of his presence, a trace of his glory (cf. Gen 1:26-27; Ps 8:6). This is what Saint Irenaeus of Lyons wanted to emphasize in his celebrated definition: ‘Man, living man, is the glory of God’. Man has been given a sublime dignity, based on the intimate bond which unites him to his Creator: in man there shines forth a reflection of God himself” (The Gospel of Life, n. 34).
