Thank you to all who contributed photos – some silly – some angelic – but all reflecting the love of our Lord Jesus Christ! As we begin a new year I am reminded of Steven Covey’s book First Things First. In it he shares a story of an instructor at a seminar who took out a wide mouth gallon jar and a pile of large rocks. He set it on the table and asked, “How many will fit in?” After a number of guesses, he puts in as many as the jar can hold, and asked, “Is it full?” “Yes, yes,” they all said. But then he took out some smaller pebbles and poured some of them in. Again he asked, “Is it full?” “Yes, now it is full.” But then he pulled out some sand, and asked. Then he pulled out water. What was the point? Is it that there is always room for “one more thing”? We know that there is a breaking point. If he had started with the pebbles or the sand, would he have been able to put in the big rocks? As you look to the New Year and all that is on your agenda, I hope you will remember to put in the BIG things first. What are YOUR big priorities? Blessings to all in 2013! Jacki

FROM PASTOR SCARLETT

Are you making a New Year’s Resolution? What will it be? I have always found it interesting that gym memberships, weights and exercise equipment go on sale in January. It’s not a coincidence!

Actually, reviewing one’s life and making plans to change is quite Methodist. Since the late 1700s, Methodists have begun the year reviewing and renewing their covenant with God. In this covenant, we praise God for all of God’s blessings, including life, this world, family and friends, the hunger in our hearts for God, redemption in Christ Jesus. We admit that God has remembered us even when we have forgotten God. We admit that we are sinners and have fallen short of God’s plan for us.

We remember that “Christ will be the Savior of none but his servants. He is the source of salvation to those who obey. Christ will have no servants except by consent; Christ will not accept anything except full consent to all that he requires. Christ will be all in all, or he will be nothing.” We make our choice.

Choosing Christ, we commit to setting aside time to spend with Him in His word and opening our hearts fully to Him. We commit to never lying to God about our sins. We commit to being faithful even though it costs us everything,.

On Sunday December 30, we will visit this covenant. Pray on it now, that if your heart be so led, you may make a new covenant with God in good conscious for all the years to come.

Scarlett

A Covenant Prayer in the Wesleyan Tradition

I am no longer my own, but thine. Put me to what thou wilt, rank me with whom thou wilt, Put me to doing, put me to suffering. Let me be employed by thee or laid aside for thee, exalted for thee or brought low for thee. Let me be full, let me be empty. Let me have all things, let me have nothing. I freely and heartily yield all things to thy pleasure and disposal. And now, O glorious and blessed God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, thou art mine, and I am thine. So be it. And the covenant which I have made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven. Amen
