    Champion Hunter Valley trainer Jason

Mackay is predicting that his cracking

bitch Zipping Willow will give the Gosford

515 metre record a shake in Fridays

Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry Supplies

    Gosford Gold Cup Final.

Zipping Willow, the second fastest heat

winner in 29.48, has drawn the coveted

rails box and she was a pronounced $1.85

favourite when TAB Fixed Odds were

    released.

The Ladies Bracelet heroine and prolific

Wentworth Park winner during 2014 had

never raced at Gosford despite being ken-

neled less than an hour from the track.

Zipping Willow had her first trial at

Gosford a week before last Fridays heat

and she overcame a check when attempt-

ing to cross at the first turn in her qualifi-

    er.

There is little doubt with a clean getaway

the black bitch can go even quicker in the

final and Mackay is predicting at least a

29.20 run if the track is in similar condition

    to last week.

I have never been so confident in a

Group race and on a similar track to last

week my bitch will get down to 29.20 or

    better, Mackay enthused.

The record is 29.14 so you never know.

The rails box is perfect for Zipping Willow

and although it is a pacey field I will be sur-

prised if my bitch doesnt lead from the

box.I wouldnt be so confident if she was

drawn out amongst Magic Display and

Jewel Action which both go quick from the

    boxes.

Zipping Willow is unbeaten in eight

starts from box one and if she jumped well

she is capable of a 12.30 first split. When I

trialled her at Gosford a week before the

heat she peeled off a slick 4.32 first split

but she was fresh and only went 29.97

    overall.

I knew there was plenty of improvement

in her and if she didnt have her heelsclipped when trying to cross at the first

turn she would have run much quicker.

Zipping Willow has come through the run

    unscathed.

I have had finalists in the Gosford Cup

but I have never won the race, Mackay

    said on Monday.

    Mackays second stringer Zipping Angel

is a quality sprinter and she was only beat-

en a head by Queenslander Farmers Gold

    in a heat.

Zipping Angel chases her heart out but

she is three lengths slower than Willow,

    Mackay said.

She can begin and she will hold her line.

However, it is a classy field and she has box

four. Are Jip, back from a trip to Melbourne,

was the star of the heats with a blistering

    29.36 win.

Are Jip began well and he led around the

first turn from Rue De Kahn.

The latter headed Are Jip down the back

and led him to near the turn but the win-

ner came away to win by 3 lengths.

Just two years old Are Jip has built up an

impressive record of 10 wins and five plac-

    ings from 22 starts.

He has excelled at Wentworth Park

where he posted 29.48 in August.

Kristy Sultana also has two Gosford Cup

finalists with the 29.70 slowest heat win-

ner Jewel Action, a kennelmate of Are Jip.

Jewel Action has won twelve of her twen-ty four race starts and she has run 29.58 at

Gosford and 29.66 at Wentworth Park.

Jewel Action has genuine speed from the

boxes but this is by far the strongest field

    she has met.

Ritza Hattie, the 2013 Laurels winner,

turned in a superb performance to take

four lengths off Zipping Willow in a heat.

She has been racing the states best but

the eight box with speed to burn on her

    inside is no help.

Rue De Kahn is honest and is a Group 1

winner early last year however she had

every chance when a 3 lengths second

to Are Jip in a heat.

She just cannot run the time of some of

    the others.

    Magic Display finished second behind

    the then Maitland-trained Awesome

Project in last years Gosford Cup.

She is a reliable beginner with speed but

she cant run the time of most of the oth-

    ers.

The first reserve Queen Esther posted

the fastest first split of any of the heat win-

ners but she gets tired at the end of the

515 metre trip in top class company.

The 29.63 she recorded after leading in

her heat wont be good enough on Friday

    night.

Second reserve Anything Less is talented

but he does come out slow as he did when

a 6 lengths third behind Are Jip in a heat.

He is second favourite ahead of Are Jip

with TAB fixed odds which is surprising.

The three major drawcards for the 2014

Gosford Cup prior to the series were

    National Sprint Champion Chica

Destacada, Shootout winner Iva Vision and

    the bonnie bitch Zipping Willow.

Only one of the trio remains and she has

    plenty in her favour.

Should Zipping Willow be successful her

racetrack earnings will soar to $230,095.

She is now three and half years old but

there is no thought of retirement accord-

    ing to Mackay.

She loves racing and is going as well as

ever - we wont pull the pin until Zipping

Willow indicates to us that she has had

    enough, Mackay stated.

Willow Set To Fly In Gosford Decider

Gosford will host the fourth Thank Dog Its

Friday series final on Friday night and with

thousands of holiday makers on the central

coast at this time of the year, a bumpercrowd is assured.

The Thank Dog Its Friday promotion fea-

tures the major Group races at seven provin-

cial tracks in New South Wales, with more

than $730,000 in prizemoney on offer.

Already Unibet Gardens , Dapto and

Lismore have hosted Group events in the

    current series.

The heats and finals are held on Friday

nights in place of the regular WentworthPark meetings.

Following the Gosford Cup on Friday night,

Richmond, Maitland and Bulli will host

series in the first half of 2015.

    Thank Dog Its Friday!

    Strong finishing Queenslander Farmers

Gold is the lone interstate sprinter to qual-

ify for Fridays Group 2 Woy Woy Poultry

    Supplies Gosford Cup Final (515m).

While NSW Greyhound Of The Year

    favourite Chica Destacada ($1.70) was

expected to dominate heat three of the

Gosford Cup last Friday, it was Farmers

Gold at the juicy odds of $34.40, that was

    first past the post.

Farmers Gold, a slow beginner, was last

to leave the boxes and aided by interfer-

ence to Chica Destacada and others at the

first turn, the 35 kilogram powerhouse

worked his way into third place down theback.

The flyers Queen Esther and Zipping

Angel were disputing the lead but Farmers

Gold was closing in on the home turn and

he claimed Zipping Angel in the shadows of

    the post.

While only the third fastest heat winner,

his time of 29.53 was creditable in his first

    start on the track.

    Farmers Gold has

    won in 29.98 at Albion

    Park but his box man-

    ners are his drawback.

    Trainer Darren

    Russell is a Balmain boy

    who moved to

    Queensland twenty

years ago and when hetravels south to race at

    Gosford or Wentworth

    Park he stays with for-

    mer top Sydney trainer

    Bob Riley.

The latter, another Tigers tragic, resides

on the Central Coast these days.

Russell and Farmers Gold headed back to

Queensland at the weekend and they travel

down the Pacific Highway on Thursday

    night.

I caught up with Russell on Tuesday.

This dog has two assets, he is very

strong and is a good railer, Russell

    informed.

However his box manners let him down.

Farmers Gold has a Group 1 motor and he

was stiff not to have beaten Iva Vision in a

heat of the Brisbane Cup in November.

Realistically I will be happy if FarmersGold could run a place in the Gosford Cup

Final. Zipping Willows one of the best in

the country and she has the box. It is a very

speed lot and we will probably be last early.

If Farmers Gold is two or three lengths

off the lead off the back he will be way com-

    petitive, Russell added.

    Brittons Star Shines At Sale

JEFF Britton finished the best year of his

training career on a perfect note on

Boxing Day when versatile bitch Star

Recall continued her excellent form since

stepping up to middle distances in the

    Group 1 Gold 1242 Sale Cup (650m).

The Sale Cup was Brittons third Group 1

victory for 2014, with the success ful

    Victorian mentor also winning the

Sapphire Crown with Oakvale Destiny and

    Maturity Classic with Mepunga Hayley.

The years final Group 1 event developed

into a family feud, with Jeff and his broth-

er Robert fighting out the finish.

Robert was chasing his fifth Group 1 suc-

cess for the year and second in eight days,

having won the Hobart Thousand with

Above All the previous Thursday, but it was

Jeff who secured bragging rights at Sale as

Star Recall held Space Star at bay.

Its been the best year Ive had for sure

and Ive really had a terrific run with the

    bitches, Jeff said.

Star Recall had forged an impressive

resume in Western Australia under the

guidance of another Britton sibling, cham-

pion trainer Linda, before venturing to

Victoria for the rich Spring Carnival.

The April 12 daughter of ill-fated sire

High Earner and No Recall raced exclusive-

ly as a sprinter in her home state, notably

running second in the National Sprint

Championship and third in the Perth Cup

at just her tenth start. After Star Recall finished seventh in the

Melbourne Cup, Jeff Britton decided to

    step her up in distance.

And his judgement was vindicated imme-

diately when she clocked a scintillating

34.01 in the final of a 600m series at The

Meadows, just .03 outside Xylia Allens

course record, earning a crack at the

    $75,000 to-the-winner Sale Cup.

Star Recall secured her third win from

    four middle distance assignments when

leading throughout in her Sale Cup heat,

clocking 37.18, the second fastest qualify-

    ing performance behind Andrea Daillys

Adelaide Cup winner Allen Deed, which

    posted 37.15.

Jeff Britton claimed a heat double with

    Texas Titan scoring in 37.49.

The Sale Cup changed complexion dra-matically when master trainer Darren

McDonalds first reserve Sweet It Is was

elevated into the field following the

    scratching of kennelmate Zipping Spike.

Chasing a remarkable fifth Group 1 victo-

ry for 2014, Sweet It Is started $2.60

favourite from box three ahead of Star

Recall ($4.70 from box 4), Allen Deed

($5.10 from box 6) and Space Star ($8.30

    from box 7).

Star Recall came out running to lead

Kiltah Magic at the first turn and then

opened up a commanding lead down the

back as former NSW stayer Space Star

    moved threateningly into second.

Space Star was the only danger turning

for home but Star Recall wouldnt bedenied a deserved feature race success,

downing Space Star by 1 lengths in

37.15 with favourite Sweet It Is flashing

    into third.

She did everything she needed to do,

    Britton said.

All I wanted her to do was to get out and

give herself a chance. She just needs a bit

of room in the first ten metres and she got

that with the five (Kiltah Magic) and the six

(Allen Deed) staying off the track.

I thought things might have been going

against us when Sweet It Is got a run and

the track was a bit heavy as well. Sweet It

Is is always a worry because if she gets a

clear run shes almost impossible to beat

but with her racing pattern she can find

    trouble.

I was a bit worried that Roberts dog

(Space Star) was getting a bit close but at

the end of the day she ran time and he

    wasnt able to get her.

Its very hard to see when youre behind

the boxes because theyre running away

from you so I was pretty relieved when

    they called her the winner.

She ran almost the same time as she ran

in her heat but I reckon she improved

because the track wasnt as quick as the

week before. I also think she might have

been a bit flat in her heat after her trial at

Sale, where she broke the first and third

    sectional records.

Star Recall will contest a 595m event at

    Sandown on Thursday (tonight) before

returning to WA to prepare for the heats of

the Perth Cup on January 31.

Shell then head back to Melbourne

where the Brittons will be hoping she can

continue the recent trend of Sale Cup win-

ners featuring prominently during theAustralian Cup Carnival.

Symmetry, which was trained by Robert

Britton, won the Sale Cup in 2010 before

winning the Rookie Rebel in 2011, 2011

Sale Cup winner Mystic Apple ran second

in the 2012 Temlee, Destini Fireball won

the Sale Cup in 2012 before winning the

Zoom Top in 2013 and 2013 Sale Cup vic-

tor Dyna Nalin went on to run third in the

    Australian Cup.

Shell go back to Linda and get back into

her routine before the Perth Cup and then

shell probably come back for the Rookie

Rebel, Jeff said.Shes only had a couple of 600s so at

this stage its still unknown if shell stay

but I think she probably will.

Jeff Britton finished a memorable 2014 on a high note when Star Recall won the

Group 1 Sale Cup on Boxing Day

Silver Chief A Classic Dyna Duel

A MOUTH-WATERING Dyna duel looms in

Saturday nights Group 1 AJS Corporation

Silver Chief Classic, with Andrea Daillys

unbeaten youngster Dyna Double One to

do battle with Jenny Hunts Melbourne

    Cup hero Dyna Villa.

Dyna Double One has started only four

times but hes already created a massive

    impression, setting The Meadows alight

over the past fortnight with near-record

victories in his heat and semi-final of the

    $100,000 to-the-winner Silver Chief.

After winning heat and final of a maiden

series at The Meadows in 30.00 and 29.81,

Dyna Double One immediately stepped up

to elite albeit age-restricted - company in

the heats of the Silver Chief where he

    made the Australian greyhound racing

public sit up and take notice with an elec-

    trifying performance.

The March 13 son of boom sire Barcia

Bale and 2011 National Futurity heroine

Crystin Bale won his heat by 13 lengths in

    a scorching 29.55, just a tenth of a second

outside the 525m course record estab-

lished by Heston Bale, another Wheeler-

bred and Dailly-trained speedster, in the

heats of the 2012 Silver Chief.

That stunning display saw Dyna Double

One dominate betting on last Saturdays

third semi-final, starting at $1.50 from box

five, and he was airborne once again, bet-

tering his heat time as he clocked 29.52,

trouncing runner-up Amaro Bale by 11lengths.

Hes a very nice dog, co-trainer George

    Dailly said understatedly.

He hasnt really surprised us with what

hes done the last two weeks because he

showed us from day one what he was capa-

    ble of.

You dont want to get too carried away

until they show you theyll run 500 but

theres no worries at all about that because

he ran home in 11.92 on Saturday night.Hes a bit like his old man (Barcia Bale)

in that hes not a brilliant box dog but if

they leave him alone for three or four

strides hes got good early toe and hes

    very strong too.

Tom (brother) and I did have a long dis-

cussion about putting him in the Silver

Chief heats and theres always the worry

that you could end up looking like a mug

but as its turned out hes got a clear run

both weeks and hes made it look like a

good decision. Hes done a good job to

make the final, whatever happens on

    Saturday night.

    The potent Dailly/Wheeler combination

is taking aim at back-to-back Silver Chief

victories on Saturday, having been success-ful with Ollie Bale in 2014.

The Dailly kennel also qualified Dyna

Double Ones litter brother Dyna Quirk,

which ran second in the opening semi-final

to another Wheeler prospect in Steve

Collins 30.16 winner Gorham Bale, a son

of Bartrim Bale and Amity Bale.

Dyna Double Ones main threat in the

Silver Chief looks to be another Dyna

speedster in Jenny Hunts Melbourne Cup

    victor Dyna Villa.

An October 12 son of Collision and

Roxio Bale, Dyna Villa was the second

    fastest semi-final winner, leading through-

out from box two in the second semi in

29.74, his fourth win from six starts at The

    Meadows.

A week earlier Dyna Villa also produced

    the second quickest heat performance,

clocking 29.67 only two nights after run-

ning third to another Silver Chief finalist,

Robert Brittons Above All, in the Group 1

    Hobart Thousand.

    New Zealand

    import Above All

    was the only non-

    W h e e l e r - b r e d

    semi winner, with

    the son of Magic

    Sprite and Kara

    Janx clocking

    29.76 in the final

    qualifier, his third

    win from four

    starts at The

    Meadows and

    ninth from 15

    overall.

    Above All will

    have to contend

    with box five in the

    Silver Chief decider,

    although the mid-

    dle alley proved to

    be no obstaclewhen he smashed

    the Hobart 461m

    course record in his

    recent Hobart

    Thousand triumph.

    The box draw was

    much kinder to

    Dyna Villa and Dyna

    Double One, which

    have been installed

    joint $2.45

    favourites in the

    TABs Fixed Odds

    market after being

    allocated boxes one

    and three respec-

    tively.Dyna Double One,

    Dyna Villa and

Above All ($3.40), totally dominate the

market, with Emrys and first reserve Dyna

Yemen next in betting at $18.

Dyna Villas the Melbourne Cup winner,

hes more experienced and hes drawn the

red so hes going to be very hard to beat

but I wouldnt be swapping Dyna Double

One in the long run, George Dailly said.

If Dyna Double One gets a clear run hes

got to be some sort of chance but theres

only been a couple of lengths between him

and Dyna Villa the last two weeks and my

gut feeling is that if Dyna Villa leads it

might take our dog the whole race to work

out how to get past him.

Dyna Double Ones brother Dyna Quirk

is drawn outside him in four and he might

have a little bit more early toe than Dyna

Double One so that could be a worry too.

Dyna Double One has done everything

right so far and the next test will be how

he handles Group 1 racing and the argy

bargy against the better dogs, so Saturday

night should give us a really good indica-

    tion about where hes at.

perfect record to four from four when winning his Silver Chief

Chief semi-final in a fast 29.74 and has drawn the rails alley for

    Clarencetown kennelmates and littermates Karma

Connie ($2.40) and Atrax Robustus ($3.00) were

expected to dominate last Fridays Newcastle

    Greyhounds Christmas Gift Final (515m).

Only two heats were held the previous week and

Atrax Robustus led all-the-way to win in a slick 29.65

while Keybows litter brother, Key Nuclear, came

from well back early to win the other heat in 30.46.

Karma Connie had no luck when a beaten

unplaced odds on favourite behind Key Nuclear but

two starts back she was an easy Wentworth Park

    winner in 29.83.

Someone Great ($6.30), a Wentworth Park winner

in 30.09 two weeks earlier but disappointing when

rundown in slow time by Key Nuclear in a heat,

came out of the rails box.

Someone Great began quickly and after a slick4.97 first split he led by six lengths down the back.

    The leader short-

    ened stride in the

    closing stages but he

    scored by 2 lengths

    from the luckless

    Karma Connie which

    was last at the first

    turn.

    It was very rough at

    the first turn and the

    third placegetter Lord

    Rain ($13.00) was

    eight lengths from the

    winner at the finish.

    Atrax Robustus was

smashed and finishedlast 19 lengths from

    the winner.

    The winners time of

30.24 was disappointing when the best of the meet-

    ing was 29.64.

Retired Royal Australian Air Force employee Rex

Jones races and trains Someone Great in the

    Newcastle suburb of Mayfield.

I called Jones earlier this week.He won the race but he cant run time at The

    Gardens, Jones said.

He has won in 30.09 at Wentworth Park yet he

cant break 30 seconds or 23 at The Gardens.

Someone Great obviously isnt comfortable on his

home track. He will run in a Paws Of Thunder

Prelude on Saturday night. I bought this dog off

Chris Carl after he had won a Richmond maiden and

he has now won five races.

I am 62 and I have been training greyhounds

since I was 17. I was a storeman in the Air Force and

I worked at Richmond, Darwin and Williamtown. I

trained greyhounds the four years I was in Darwin.

I worked at Williamtown for the last 14 years

    before I retired.

I love living in Newcastle and The Gardens isnt

faraway and Maitland is 20 minutes up the highway.I have three in work, Jones added.

Sensational Dubbo pup Urban Cargo obliterated

the Dubbo 400 metre record for the second time

in two weeks on Boxing Day.

The 22 month old son of Fabregas is unbeaten in

three starts for leading central west owner/trainer

    Charmaine Roberts.

Urban Cargo commenced his racing career with

his breeder and trainer Ray Steel and in three

starts, all in October, he was twice placed atCoonamble and Dubbo.

Roberts produced the youngster first up at

Maitland on December 4 and without a trial there

    he posted a respectable 25.28.

At Dubbo on December 11 Urban Cargo won a

fifth grade by 9 lengths establishing a new

    record of 22.59.

On Boxing Day the black dog

led all the way to win a fifth

grade by 14 lengths in a breath-

    taking 22.38.

    In the month of December

Urban Cargo has cut .31 or 4

lengths off a record which was

    held by smart sprinters Pure

    Arrogance and Irinka Luca.

Urban Cargos incredibleimprovement has Roberts partner

    and Dubbo president Shayne Stiff

    shaking his head.

We are staggered by his con-

    tinual improvement, Stiff said.

Charmaine believed he had potential and that is

why she bought him but 22.38 at Dubbo not in

    our wildest dreams.

Urban Cargo pulled up a bit sore in a shoulder

and Charmaine scratched him from a race at Dubbo

    today.

The dog will join Darren McDonalds kennel

along with his kennelmate Harry Keeping as soon

as Darren has room. In the meantime he will trial atRichmond or Wentworth Park.

He has gone well in a Richmond trial before we

    raced him.

Urban Cargo will be 22 months old on Friday so

it is mind boggling what the future may hold for

him, Stiff added on Monday. - Gary Harley

The Greyhound Recorder Thursday, 1 January, 2015 Page 9

    Lords Land Sixth Wenty Title

A STRONG finish to 2014 has seen Andy

and Jodie Lord claim their sixth

    Wentworth Park Trainers Premiership in

    13 years.

    The Gunning-based Lords previously

    won a hat-trick of titles in 2002/03/04

and then went back-to-back in 2010/11.

The Lords trailed Mark Gatt for the

majority of 2014 on The Greyhound

    Recorders Wentworth Park premiership,

which allocates ten points for each city

win, four for second and two for third,

but after taking the lead in early

November they careered away in the

    closing weeks of the year.

The Lords accumulated 708 points, securing their 37th victory at the Glebe

circuit when Coolabah Jet was successful

last Saturday night, while they also had

    57 seconds and 55 thirds.

The Lords and Mark Gatt finished equal

second behind Jason Mackay in the 2013

premiership race and after an excellent

start to the year it appeared likely Gatt

would go one better and claim a maiden

title before he was overwhelmed by the

    Lords numerical superiority in

    November and December.

We had a good, consistent year, Andy

    Lord said.

Ive always said that you cant eat pre-

mierships so we never set out to win thepremiership or focus on it too much but

I noticed towards the end of the year we

were getting close to Mark (Gatt) and we

    finished the year pretty strongly.

It was a good effort to win it because

we dont really have that many dogs in

work and other than Cawbourne Whip

theyre really only good, handy dogs. We

only have 25 in work and about ten of

them would be city dogs. The rest are

    just Canberra dogs.

Its definitely not the best team weve

ever had but youve got to give them

credit. Most of them chased their hearts

out and a lot raced for the whole year.

We had dogs that had 40 starts atWentworth Park over the year. They did-

nt get to top grade but they dropped

    back and won their races.

While the Lords have been a perennial

    premiership force throughout the last

decade, it could be a difficult task to

defend the premiership in 2015 as they

shift the focus of their training opera-

    tion.

The Lords have joined forces with own-

ers Adam Baker and Steve Byrnes,

whove developed close ties with grey-

hound racing in recent times through

    their Newcastle-based company Port

Container Services, to form the ASA

Syndicate, with the future plan to trainalmost exclusively for the syndicate.

We really want to concentrate on get-

ting the ASA Syndicate up and running,

    Lord explained.

Weve bred a lot of pups weve got

about 140 young dogs and well basi-

cally only be training our own dogs from

now on but obviously if we get an out-

side offer to train a good dog well take

    it.

Well be hoping to build up a good,

city team again by half-way through the

year but that will depend on how our

    young dogs break in.

Mark Gatt finished runner-up in the

premiership for the second straight year, totalling 526 points, courtesy of 32 wins,

33 seconds and 37 thirds, to wind up

    182 points behind the Lords.

The Lords strength in numbers proved

telling and was underlined by the fact

they had 328 Wentworth Park starters in

2014, almost doubling Gatts total of

    166.

Gatt was just 16 points ahead of third-

placed Christine Proctor (510), who with

husband Alan enjoyed an outstandingyear at headquarters, highlighted by a

    deserved Group 1 breakthrough when

Bessy Boo won the Peter Mosman

    Classic in June.

    Anthony Azzopardi (462) and Marie

Burton (400) completed the top five,

with 2013 winner Jason Mackay (392)

and 2012 victor Ron Bell (388) ending

the year in sixth and seventh position

    respectively.

While not able to secure back-to-back

premierships, Jason Mackay once againboasted a phenomenal strike rate at

Wentworth Park, with his 30 winners

coming from just 85 starters at an excel-

    lent 35.29 per cent.

The only trainer to have a better strike

rate than Mackay (of those conditioners

with 20 or more Wentworth Park

starters last year) was Victorian Steve

Collins, who snared eight wins from his

21 runners in Sydney at 38.09 per cent.

Coolabah Jet gave 2014 Wentworth Park premier trainers Andy and Jodie Lord their

Race On For QLD GOTY Honours

The judging panel for the 2014

Queensland Greyhound Of The Year meets

on January 21 to determine a winner.

Three finalists are decided from what is

normally a lengthy list of possible con-

tenders. A winner is then voted on from

    those three.

I think it would be realistic to suggest

that Flash Reality and Iva Vision are good

    things to be finalists.

Flash Reality won the Group 2

Queensland Derby and Group 1 Winter

Carnival Cup, both at Albion Park.

Iva Vision won the Group 3 South

Australian Derby and Group 2 Macro Meats

    Shootout at Sandown Park.

To their names you can add quite a list,

including Late Angel Lee, (equal Albion

Park 520 metre track record) HappyHaswell (City Of Ipswich Gold Cup), Wag

    Tail (State Final National Distance

Championship), Rose Of Galo (Black Top),

Frosty Jay Jay (Healesville Cup), Jungle

    Junction (Vince Curry Memorial Maiden),

Are Ate (Ipswich Magical Auction and

    Devonport Cup), Visualize It (Queensland

Futurity), Benarkin (Big Dog Cup), Yogi

Blue (Rockhampton and Lismore Cups) and

Give Me Credit (Gold Coast Cup). Some

panel members will no doubt have other

names to add to the list.

The winner will be announced on March

    14.

    Flash Reality

    has been off

    the scene since

    injuring a hock

    in October.

    That happenedfive days

    before the dog

    was set to run

    ing a racestart, trainer

    Tony Brett said.

You Can Talk Brisbane GRC GOTYPeter Ruestchis You Can Talk is the

Brisbane GRCs Greyhound Of The Year for

    2014.

You Can Talk had her last start for 2014

at Albion Park on Monday night. She fin-

ished second and three points in the

GOTY competition put her nine clear of

second placed Cyndies Special for Bill

    Elson.

You Can Talk and Cyndies Special have

    obviously been very consistent perform-

ers throughout the year. But lack of a

group race win makes it an uphill battle to

make the cut for the Queensland

    Greyhound Of The Year.

    The Molly Campbell Memorial Silver

Dollars, a race for Derby and Futurity

age performers, is normally run at

    Albion Park during late October.

The event wasnt run in October 2014

when Albion Park was closed for five

    weeks for track surface reconstruction.

The series has been held over and there

    are six heats tonight.

Theres some quality runners in the

heats. Bill Elson won the race last year

with Hopes Fantasy who has since gone

on to seven more wins. Hopes Fantasy is

racing tonight in a third and fourth grade

event. Elson has Abbys Magic and Hopes

    Magic in tonights heats.

For the latest running of the Molly

Campbell, in October 2013, there were

only three heats. Running the event in

January permanently might be a good

idea, given that there are six heats

tonight. October into November sees a

pretty tight schedule of feature races

including the Lismore Cup. January is

    pretty quiet in south-east Queensland

and northern New South Wales as far as

    feature races are concerned.

The Molly Campbell is run in memory of

the lady and her son Col Harris, best

    known for producing Queenslands first

greyhound form guide, known as The

    Lure back in the 1960s.

Mollys son Billy has come up with a

nice gesture tonight. Race ten has been

named the Col Harris Remembered Stake.

And race nine is the Arthur Brasch

    Remembered Stake.

    Arthur, father of prominent greyhound

racing identities John and David Brasch,

    passed away on December 18.

    Arthur worked for the Brisbane

Telegraph newspaper and had a very dis-

tinguished career there. We would like to

remember Arthur as well as Molly and

    Col, Billy Harris said.

    Avondale Porches Cup Comeback

    LEADING Victorian trainer Kel Greenough

is hoping classy former NSW bitch

Avondale Porche can make up for lost

time in the Group 2 Kingston Trophies

    Cranbourne Cup next Wednesday night

    (January 7).

Avondale Porche was only having her

fifth start back after nearly a year on the

sidelines when she set the pace in

Mondays heats of the $45,000 to-the-win-

    ner Cranbourne Cup, leaving two-time

Group 1 winner Keybow in her wake.

Avondale Porche started her career in

sensational fashion in mid-2013 for Hunter

trainer Beau Hedley and owner Mick

Brown, Hedleys uncle, winning her first

nine starts and posting fast time atWentworth Park (29.75), Richmond (30.68)

    and The Gardens (29.50).

The April 11 daughter of Knocka Norris

and Micro Lee was transferred to Kel

Greenough in early 2014 but frustratingly

didnt make her first appearance in

Victoria until November 8 when scoring at

    The Meadows.

I had her entered for a race at Sandown

way back in May but she came on season,

    Greenough explained.

I worked her up and she was almost

ready to go again but then she came on

season for the second time in five months.

She kept having milk in her teats it just

wouldnt go away and I thought this

bitch has gone into breeding mode.

I almost gave up and Beau (Hedley) said

to send her back if I wanted to but thenwithin seven days the milk stopped and

then she put in a ripper trial so I took her

to The Meadows about 90 per cent fit and

    she won.

I thought that was great but then I took

her to Cranbourne and she was a disap-

pointing third, but she pulled up lame in a

wrist. About four weeks later I had her

back at Sandown and I was very impressed

    with her run (29.49).

    Avondale Porche continued her come-

back in Mondays Cranbourne Cup heats,

    where she tackled Darren McDonalds

Perth and Brisbane Cup hero Keybow in

    the third of six run-offs.

Keybow started at $1.50 from box five

with Avondale Porche, which started at$5.60 from box two, the only other runner

    at single figures.

Keybow was never a factor as Avondale

    Porche produced a flawless front-running

exhibition, downing Dyna Geldof by 5

lengths in 30.21, recording her third win in

five starts since resuming from her lengthy

layoff and improving her impressive career

    record to 13 from 18.

She went in a little bit underdone and I

thought Keybow was going to be very hard

to beat but I did give her a chance because

I thought she could lead, Greenough said.

    She came out run-

    ning and went close

    to the first section

    record, which she

    had shown me signs

she was capable of.She did everything

    right and went the

    quickest but I would

    think shes going to

    have to do the same

    thing to win the

    final.

    I would love to

    win a Group race

    with her for Beau

    and Mick Brown

    because they seem

    to be exceptional

    blokes and theyve

    been very patient

    through a long, frus-

    trating process.Even though

    Avondale Porche has

got a bit of age about her I still think shes

got plenty of racing left because shes been

extremely lightly raced her whole life. The

underlying factor will be when she comes

    on season again.

The Cranbourne Cup has been a race

thats eluded us, although Ive probably

only been in it three or four times. I had

High Earner in it before he won the Perth

Cup (2011) but he got knocked over when

he was in a winning position.

The other five heat winners were Darren

    Beasleys Hostile (30.24), Jeff Brittons

    Oakvale Destiny (30.32), Jason Thompsons

    Whodat Knockin (30.37), Graham

    Whitfords Zambora Magic (30.55) and

    Peter Reinders Sonic Pirate (30.64).

    Gerry Kleevens brilliant speedster Luca

Neveelk qualified as one of the two fastest

seconds and will take aim at his third coun-

try cup victory, having already won the

    Geelong and Ballarat Cups.

DEAN Swain admitted to having been

    reluctant to nominate Eleazar for

    Saturday nights 720m Schweppes Stayers

Stakes but the Vineyard trainer need not

    have worried, with the Queensland-

owned bitch coming away to score her

    11th win in 45 starts.

    Eleazar trailed pacemaker Queen Marina

to the back straight before hitting the

front near the home turn and winning

comfortably in 42.61, well outside her per-

sonal best WP figures of 42.32.

After the race a relieved Swain explained:

Tonight was Eleazars first 700m race in

    nearly five months.

She had a seasonal spell and after thatsnapped a toe almost in half.

Ive been bringing her back gradually

and after a couple of 520m races at Wenty

    I gave her a 640m hit-out there on Tuesday.

Scott Gollan, one of Sydneys most

    experienced clockers, told me Eleazars

sectional times were sensational but she

got so tired she barely made it to the

    catching pen.

Because of that I didnt want to start her

in tonights 720m race but her Queensland

owner insisted she would recover quickly

and would be up to the task.

So whatever she did tonight she should

improve on because she is about a kilo-

    gram above her best weight.

Eleazer can run, make no mistake aboutthat, and in her last Albion Park 710m win

in June her time of 42.13 was only slightly

slower than Xylia Allens 42.07 perform-

    ance on the same night.

Eleazar has been in four group finals,

    two of them at Wentworth

Park, and she gets her chance

to snare one in the group two

    Summer Distance Plate.

She will be in the heats on

January 10 and hopefully in the

    final a week later.

    Also contesting the Summer

    Distance Plate will be

    Queenslands Mullaway, who

ran a great race when third to

Eleazar at his WP debut on

    Saturday night.

    Mullaway was a conspicuous

last at box rise and was ham-

pered crossing to the railsbefore running on strongly to

    beat all but Eleazar and

    Bulletproof Esky.

    After the race Mullaway s

    trainer Joanne Price said: My

    dog had never seen Wentworth

    Park before tonight, I brought

him to Sydney to give him a

look at the track before the

    Summer Distance Plate.

He is very talented but there

    are virtually no opportunities

for stayers in Queensland so it

is hard to get them race fit to

    tackle 720 metres.

Tonights run will do him the world of

    good.Mullaway had won 10 of 35 Queensland

starts before his third on Saturday night

and trialled a slick 30 seconds over 520m

at Albion Park four nights before the WP

    race.

Dean Swain with Eleazar following her slick 700 success at Wentworth Park on Saturday night

THE possibility of having to line up at

    Wentworth Park on five successive

Saturday nights means Fantastic Sid is

likely to miss the Ladbrokes Paws Of

Thunder to be saved for the National

    Derby series.

Trainer Jason Fletcher hinted at that

option after Fantastic Sid had scored whathis trainer described as a tough win in

    Saturday nights wentworthpark.com.au

    Stakes.

He could start in the Paws Of Thunder

heats on January 10 but if he made the

final a week later he would then have only

a week to get ready for the National Derby

heats on January 25, Fletcher said on

    Saturday.

And age-wise the Derby, with semi-

finals on January 31 and the final on

February 7, is a far more suitable race for

a young dog like Fantastic Sid.

If he contested both the Paw Of

Thunder and the National Derby series

and reached both finals it would mean him

racing at Wenty on five Saturday nights ina row and thats not a good scenario.

On Saturday Fantastic Sid was sent out a

long odds-on favourite from his seemingly

perfect box three draw and was expected

to go straight to the front.

    But favourite backers expectations were

given a setback at box rise when Mike

Lowrie, in box five, veered hard left and

    severely crowded Fantastic Sid.

    Although Fantastic Sid had previously

gone as quick as 29.71 at WP he had to

work hard and took 30.07 to win on

Saturday.Fantastic Sid tore a back muscle at

Maitland on November 13 and went into

tonights race with just four trials under

his belt, Fletcher said on Saturday.

But in his final Wentworth Park trial he

clocked initial splits of 5.39 and 13.72 yet

he couldnt lead tonight and the pacemak-

    er recorded 5.43 and 13.89.

That disappointed me a little but I was

pleased to see him come from third on the

back straight to hit the front on the home

    turn.

    Experienced Queensland trainer Tom

Tzouvelis, who landed a winning double

on Saturday night at WP with Tee Brady

and Le Sireneuse, was one race watcher

who thought Fantastic Sids performancewas outstanding.

The five dog nearly put him out of play

when the lids went up so I thought

Fantastic Sids run was terrific, Tzouvelis

    said later.

The Greyhound Recorder Thursday, 1 January, 2015 Page 15

Tsouvelis Wenty DoubleLE Sireneuse improved sharply on a mod-erate Wentworth Park trial to win at herrace debut on the track last Saturday butthat didnt surprise Queensland trainer

    Tom Tzouvelis.

Making full use of box one, Le Sireneuse

railed underneath her rivals to lead at the

first turn before careering away to win a

Ladbrokes Paws Of Thunder Prelude by

more than six lengths in 29.88.

She was the first greyhound to break 30

on Saturday night and her figures were

bettered later on the card only by

Coolabah Jets 29.82 and the brilliant

    Winsome Princes 29.72 performance.

I gave Le Sireneuse a box to box trial atWentworth Park on the Tuesday before this

race and she clocked 5.43 and 18.23,

    Tzouvelis explained after Saturdays win.

But I knew she would improve, she

always goes a lot better with a run on a

    track.

Le Sireneuse could always run but early

in her career I had some reservations

    about her courage.

But she has developed into a very good

race bitch despite having a nasty fall at

Albion Park three months ago. She finished

second in the Ipswich Cup and goes really

well at that track so I knew Wentworth

    Park would suit her.

Ive found that greyhounds which go

well at Ipswich take to Wentworth Park

    easily.

Le Sireneuse is owned by Toni Graham

who has given me a lot of dogs to train

    over the years.

I currently have a dozen in work and

another 12 in the pre-training stage.

All being well Le Sireneuse will contest

the Paws Of Thunder heats at Wenty on

January 10 and Ill also have Tee Brady, whoalso won tonight, in that race too.

I have a bitch at home named Princess

Canute and I am planning to bring her to

Sydney for the heats of the group one

    National Futurity on January 23.

Princess Canute does not have as much

early zip as Le Sireneuse but has a bigger

motor so she should be suited in the

    Futurity.

When Paul Wheeler raced greyhounds in

Queensland, Tzouvelis was his number onetrainer north of the border.

    Wheelers absence from the Sunshine

State though has not diminished the affa-ble Tzouvelis success rate.

MICK Player had no hesitation in declar-

ing Haich Two Mo the best he had pre-pared in his 25 years as a trainer after the

brilliant front-runner scored his 10th win

in 16 starts at Wentworth Park on

    Monday night.

Owned by Shaun Dooley, a builder from

Sylvania, Haich Two Me easily accounted

for one of the hottest 280m lineups

assembled at Wentworth Park in 2014.

The son of Lochinvar Marlow matched

strides with WP 520m winner Zulu

Mystique at box rise and gradually drew

clear to notch his fifth win in his past six

    outings.

    After the race Tahmoor-based Player,

who runs the 460m Thirlmere trial track,

said: Haich Two Mo will eventually tackle

520m at Wentworth Park but at this stageI am taking

    him through

    his grades

    over short

    courses.

    Although he

    was paddling a

    bit at the fin-

    ish Haich Two

    Mo did win

    over 520m at

    Nowra on

    November 17

    and while he is

    now top grade

    over 365m

    there I haveother options

    available such

    as 400m races

    at Richmond.

    The dogs

owner Shaun Dooley bought 15 grey-

hounds on the verge of being ready to bebroken in and after they were educated he

farmed them out to various trainers.

He sent me six of those break ins and

Haich Two Mo was among them, although

at the time we didnt hold great hopes for

him. Haich Two Mo was one of the dogs

which broke in poorly but he has kept

improving from the day I got him.

I got my first greyhound in 1990 and

retired from my job as a brick-laying con-

tractor in 2000 to train greyhounds as a

    hobby.

I now have 18 greyhounds in work but

Haich Two Mo, the best Ive ever had, is

obviously the star of the kennel.

    PROSPECTIVE buyers missed a great

opportunity in the spring when connec-

tions offered Coolabah Jet for sale for

    $20,000.

We didnt get a nibble but it has worked

out fine because she has won three races

since we advertised her, trainer Jodie

Lord said after Coolabah Jet led through-

out to beat a smart field in Saturday

nights Macro Meats Gourmet GameStakes at Wentworth Park.

She had won half a dozen races but we

decided to advertise her because we were

over-run with bitches at home, Lord said.

Coolabah Jet is going better than ever

but even though she ran 29.82 tonight Im

a realist so I doubt she will be entered for

the Paws Of Thunder heats on January 10.

In fact Ill probably give my team a bit of

a break while all these big races are on at

    Wenty in January.

I have not missed nominating for a sin-

gle Friday or Saturday night meeting at

Wentworth Park in 2014 so it has been a

busy year.We had not intended breeding from

Coolabah Jet but she is going so well now

we will probably have to reconsider that

    decision.

    Roderick Eyes Butch Monkley

WESTON trainer Paul Roderick headed to

    Wauchopes greyhound meeting on Friday

night with his entire four-dog kennel tar-

geting the heats of the time-honoured

    Butch Monkley Memorial Maiden.

All four are members of an El Galo-Lee

Kate litter Paul bred, reared and now

    trains.

While only one of those, Toe Punt, is

through to Thursday nights final, the dog

was so impressive he must rate one of the

hardest to beat in the quality line-up.

Toe Punt began like a rocket from his five

box and was never in danger of defeat

scoring by five and a half lengths over

Showtime Lucy with a length to Kay Oh in

third. The winner was making his race debut

but had benefitted from two trials on the

Wauchope track in preparation for the

    series.

Hes not the best of the litter, Roderick

    said.

But he is very quick out and has a lot of

    early pace.

Toe Punt ran a very fast 21.92, equal

fastest of the heats with Brian Smoothys

In Full Bloom, quick time considering the

track had suffered from a downpour late in

the afternoon which made the surfacequite slow.

Roderick, 36, is a truck driver who

depends on his wife Rebecca and father

Bob to help out with the everyday training

duties while he is away from home.

I got started training greyhounds 10

years ago when I decided to give up punt-

ing on them and get a dog of my own,

    Roderick said.

A complete novice at the industry, he

decided to go to greyhound racetracks and

pick the brains of veteran trainers.

It has been a learning curve that is obvi-

    ously successful.

Roderick bred Toe Punt and his litter-

mates from his former very smart

Wentworth Park performer Lee Kate. She won over 520 metres and 720

metres at Wentworth Park, Roderick said.

While the El Galo litter is promising,

Roderick is excited about the potential of a

litter he is about to breed by leading sire

Magic Sprite from Lee Kates daughter

    Splash About (by Elite State).

Splash About, according to Roderick, is

    the best of the pro-

    duce of Lee Kate

    having won several

    races at Wentworth

    Park among her 22

    wins.Brian Smoothys In

    Full Bloom (Cosmic

    R u m b l e - B l o s s

    Sannette) was

    impressive in her 12

    and a half-length

    win in her heat in

    equal fastest time of

    the series.

    Smoothy landed a

    winning treble on

    the night after Dry

    Spell (Magic Sprite-

    Its Show Time) had

    won in a slow 22.52

    earlier in the night

in a race full of inter-ference, and then

    Time For Magic, a

    littermate to Dry

    Spell, ran a quick

    22.02 in the final

    heat.

    Time For Magic

    was making his race

    debut as well.

    The Butch

    Monkley Memorial

    final will be run on

Thursday night. Paul Roderick with his exciting young charge Toe Punt atWauchope on the weekend

    written by

    David Brasch

Prior to Sydney trainer Peter Lagogiane

departing for Dubai he told yours truly he

had the best crop of youngsters he had

    ever trained.

They were owned byMartin and Fiona

Hallinan and before he left our shores he

started three of them from the Mandagery

Man x Pink Bandanna litter in the heats of

a Wentworth Park maiden series on

    November 23.

Zipping Eastwood won a heat in 30.58,

Zipping Carter finished second in 30.40

while Zipping Sonny missed the start and

    finished fifth.

The trio were then transferred to Jason

Mackay and in the past week or two have

proven that Lagogiane is a good judge.

On December 18 Zipping Eastwood won

a Maitland maiden by 12 lengths in

    24.98.

    Winsome Princes record stands at

    24.79.

On Christmas Eve at Richmond, Zipping

Sonny won a maiden by 11 lengths in

30.43, the best of the meeting.

On Boxing Day at Gosford Zipping Carter

overcame difficulties to win a maiden in

    29.87.

    Mackay cant believe his luck.

Peter is a very good trainer and these

dogs came to me in immaculate condi-

    tion, Mackay said.

Its a trainers dream to get three 22

month old dogs ready to win straight

away. All three are very smart and have

great potential. The other highly promis-

ing sprinter in my kennel is Zipping Saxon.

He finished second to Winsome Prince

in the rich Dapto Maiden Final in August.

Zipping Saxon pulled up sore when sec-

ond in a Wentworth Park maiden in early

September and he didnt race for three

    months.

He won first up at Maitland in 25.17 the

best of the day and a week before

Christmas he posted a near record 24.88

at Maitland, Mackay added earlier this

    week.

establishment of an on-site Veterinarian Services Clinic and associated

services at the Richmond Greyhound Racing Club, NSW.

The Richmond Greyhound Racing Club conducts Greyhound Racing meetings

twice weekly and has regular well patronised trialling sessions as well as a

straight track facility available for the slipping of greyhounds. This repre-

sents an outstanding commercial opportunity for the right operator to part-

ner with the club and capitalise on the existing market with potential cus-

    tomers on site.

The club has a vacant existing facility ideally located within the precinct,

where it seeks to partner with a suitable and qualified operator to provide

veterinarian services. The services offered can be as broad as possible and

not just limited to greyhounds and could potentially offer more extensive

services catering for canine needs and other animals/pets.

Interested parties will need to submit a proposal, which addresses but is not

limited to: qualifications, experience, expertise, services offered, and to pro-

vide any relevant information or documentation with the submission. All

Expressions will be treated in the strictest of confidence.
