ST. LOUIS MAR THOMA CHURCH 2840 N Ballas Rd, St. Louis, MO - 63131 Vicar: Rev. Thomas Mathew
Annual Report 2021
INTRODUCTION
Dear St. Louis Mar Thoma Family members,
“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God. He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep HIS commandments
- Duet - 7:9”.
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The world has experienced the ups and downs during this pandemic and has taught us new lessons, new approaches and practices. It is important to pause and reflect on the promises God has given in His word. It helps us to renew in Christ and draw closer to God and reset our priorities. No matter how much we thank God for being with us during this age of unprecedented times, let our days of prayer continue. Our parish has remained resilient and hopeful during these troubled times, however there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, and we were able to slowly crawl back to our pre COVID days after the vaccinations. And we were able to resume the in-person worship and other activities from mid of the year. We are called to be stewards in the household of God, set apart for His service. It is our task and responsibility to stand firm in Christian faith and overcome all the struggles. Let us all be together in faith, fellowship and worship God to glorify His name. We thank God Almighty for His mercy and kindness on us during this past year. Parish Worship Service
Our parish has been a flag bearer of Divine love of Christ to the gloomy and the distressed, and extends both spiritual and material support to the needy. Our Parish began as a prayer group of few families. Then as time went on August 22, 1996 we became a congregation and later became a full-fledged parish on October 1st 2012. We believe our transformation as a church is the result of the hard work, prayer and dedication of all our members.
As the pandemic continued over to the year 2021, we continued our worship services virtually through Zoom until June 2021. Combined Divine worship with St. Thomas Indianapolis, Columbus and Cleveland congregations were held every Sunday through Zoom at 9 AM led by our previous Vicar Rev. Saju John until April 2021 and by our current Vicar Rev. Thomas Mathew from May 2021. After the vaccinations, the in-person Holy communion services started from June 20th, 2021, every second and fourth Sundays at 9:30 AM at Historic Sanctuary. Divine Service led by Laymen were conducted on 1st and 3rd Sundays through zoom until October 3rd Sunday and at church in person, starting from October 31st. Considering the overall performance of the church during the year 2020 – 21, our church was awarded with a 2020 Parish Appreciation Award which was handed over to our Vicar Rev. Thomas Mathew during the Diocesan Assembly
meeting which was held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the St. Peter’s Mar Thoma Church, New Jersey. Despite the pandemic the church activities are navigated by a fifteen-member strong Executive Committee, which is united in making decisions and executing them. The general body meets when need arises and takes apt and necessary decisions. Number of families - 28 Number of total members - 88 Number of Families joined during 2021 - 2 Number of families left during 2021 - 5
