For the record, Dallas has gone 3-1-0 vs. Nashville this season, including twowins at American Airlines Center. THE BIG PICTUREAfter beating the Avalanche on Mar. 29, the Blues clinched the 8th 100-point campaign in club history. 2015-16 has also completed thefranchise’s first ever back-to-back-to-back set of 100-point seasons. A victory over the Capitals tonight would give the Blues their fourth50-win season (2013-14, 2014-15, 1999-00) and mark the fifth time they’ve reached 109 points (1999-00, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2011-12). Win or lose, 2016 is the fifth consecutive season in which the Blues will have home ice in the first round of the playoffs, marking thesecond five-season, home ice streak in team history (1987-91). The Blues will enter the playoffs with their best “stretch run” record inclub history, as they’ve gone a League-best 13-3-0 (.813) since the beginning of March.
STASTNY LEADS BLUESPaul Stastny has logged nine points (1g, 8a) over his last seven games. The St. Louis native is averaging .86 points per game (5g,20a – 29 gp) since the All-Star break while he averaged .68 (5g, 18a – 34gp) prior to the break. As he goes, so do the Blues as theclub has posted a 21-9-4 mark in games in which Stastny has logged at least a point. The Blues are averaging 3.69 goals per game since the beginning of March which ranks 2nd overall (1. Pittsburgh, 3.85). The teamhas scored at least four times in 12 of their last 17 games after reaching that mark in just 15 of their first 64 games of the season. It hasbeen a group effort as during the aforementioned 16-game segment, 20 different Blues have found the back of the net and 12 havemultiple tallies (Tarasenko leads with 10). Since the All-Star break, the club has averaged 3.17 goals per contest which is their bestpost All-Star mark since the 2010-11 team averaged 3.30. TARASENKO SETS NEW CAREER HIGHVladimir Tarasenko posted his 38th and 39th goals of the year on Thursday in Chicago, setting a new single-season career high forgoals. His 39th was also his 7th game-winner of the year, which also marks a new career best. Currently with 73 overall (39g, 34a), hehas tied a career high for points while becoming the first Blues with back-to-back 73-point seasons since Pavol Demitra in 2001-02 and2002-03. Tarasenko has also set career numbers in power play goals (12) and power play points (24) this season. Since he enteredthe League in 2012-13, the Yaroslavl, Russia, native is one of 10 players with at least 200 points and a +50 rating (Crosby, Getzlaf,Pavelski, Kopitar, Toews, Perry, Bergeron, Stepan, Kunitz). PIETRANGELO PLAYS UNIQUE ROLEThe Blues activated Alex Pietrangelo from IR on Feb. 27 and the King City, Ontario, native has responded by posting four goals, nineassists and a +17 rating that shares 2nd overall with Sidney Crosby during that stretch (1. Kris Letang, +19). Pietrangelo figuresprominently in all situations as he ranks 6th overall in ice time per game (26:19), 10th in shorthanded ice time (3:12) and he averagesover two minutes of power play time (2:17). In fact, he is one of two players to average north of 25 minutes overall, three minutesshorthanded and two minutes with the man advantage per game (Francois Beauchemin). ELLIOTT ON FIREBrian Elliott has won 11 straight decisions, including a career-best seven-game road win streak, dating back to Feb. 12. The 11 winshave come in 13 appearances, during which Elliott has posted a 1.84 GAA, a .933 SV% and three of his four season shutouts. Elliottreturned from a 10-game injury absence on Mar. 19 and went on to post three consecutive shutouts, tying a Blues franchise record. Overall, he’s gone 6-0-0 with a 1.34 GAA, a .946 SV% and three clean sheets since returning from injury.
PARAYKO AMONG TOP ROOKIESColton Parayko tallied his 9th goal of the season last Sunday in Colorado, becoming the third Blues rookie blueliner to reach thatplateau (Brian Benning, Bob Hess). Parayko has 33 points for the season, tied for the 3rd-most by a rookie defenseman in Blueshistory. In addition, his +29 rating is currently the best rating ever from a Blues rookie defenseman and tied for the 5th-best mark byany rookie d-man since the 1990-91 season.
HITCHCOCK IN EXCLUSIVE COMPANYWith a win over New Jersey on Jan. 12, Ken Hitchcock became the franchise’s second 200-win coach (Joel Quenneville, 307) and thesixth coach in NHL history to earn 200 wins with at least 2 different teams (Scotty Bowman, Dick Irvin, Jacques Lemaire, JoelQuenneville, Dave Tippet). Hitchcock registered 277 wins with Dallas from 1995-2002.
