COVID19 - CARES ACT In response to the continuing financial hardships caused by the onset of the COVID19 pandemic, Catholic Charities Dallas (CCD) has partnered with a number of counties and cities in North Texas to administer their emergency financial relief programs. CCD is currently working with the following entities to distribute emergency rent, mortgage and/or utility assistance relief to residents of:

Dallas County (excluding City of Dallas residents) Collin County, including the cities of Frisco, McKin-

ney and Plano City of Dallas City of Irving

City of Garland City of Mesquite City of Cedar Hill

Interested residents can apply online by visit-ing ccdallas.org/covid-19-assistance-application; a pre-screening questionnaire will determine eligibility, based on the specific city’s or county’s guidelines. ©LPi

GOSPEL MEDITATION - what right do we have to limit the amount and degree of forgiveness we show to others when we are so desperately in need of it our-selves? In not wanting someone who hurt us to down-play or forget the gravity of their wrong, we cling to an-ger, resentment, and wrath as a way of maintaining con-trol. It is a way to acknowledge and express our deep hurt. We fail to realize that in doing so we hold our-selves hostage to these destructive feelings and actually become mired in the bondage of sin. All we gain is fur-ther alienation from ourselves, others, and especially God. We are no longer free but tethered to all of this unresolved negativity. Don’t we really want to let it go? The fact is that we need to. A good self-reflective posture will quickly show us that when the shoe is on the other foot and we are the ones in need of forgiveness, we desire it above anything else. This is especially true with our relationship with God. It is hypocritical to want one thing for ourselves and something else for another. Yet, many act in pre-cisely this way. Perhaps we think that in offering forgiveness, even for the most grievous of wrongs, somehow excuses the person of their wrong and makes it almost acceptable. This is what makes revenge, retaliation, and punishment so attractive. We see forgiveness as being an eraser that easily wipes away the offense without consequence. Or, we may believe that in offering forgiveness I must somehow forget the wrong and open myself as a victim of even greater possible hurts in the future. In fact, for-giving my sister or brother of their wrongful actions or attitudes involves none of this. It does not erase any-thing or position me vulnerably as a doormat to be walked on. Forgiveness is an act of freedom that restores hon-est dialogue, shares true, and heartfelt feelings and acknowledges the consequences of an action. It admits that the wrong has caused a hurt that must be healed and squarely positions responsibility on the offender. The act of forgiveness recognizes our sinfulness and broken-ness. It also admits that the most saintly among us is ca-pable of doing very grave and deep harm to another per-son. It sees that we all can be victims of our passions and works in progress that deserve unlimited chances to get it right. With forgiveness, I release myself from the bonds of negativity and pursue a path of restoration, wholeness, and healing. I do not forget the wrong nor do I dismiss it. Sometimes, we have to stay far away from the one who hurt us. But we can still heal internally and be free. For the one who wants to be forgiven and the one who needs offer forgiveness, the journey can be an ad-venture in learning what brought us to this place and what is needed to move forward. This is exactly how God treats us. Why would we not want to do the same for others? ©LPi

RE for 2020-2021

All students will need a 2” Binder.

Homeschool for Sunday’s Students Start Date 9/20/2020 Homeschool for Tue.’s Students Start Date 9/22/2020 Homeschool for Wed’s Students Start Date 9/23/2020

Since public schools and charter schools around our parish area have been changing in person classes start dates, it is hard to determine when in person classes will resume in our parish. Parents will receive a phone call and email to come and pick material during office hours. Parents also will play a very important role in the formation of their children; PAR-ENTS will be the MAIN CATECHISTS, and will make sure that students complete assignments on a weekly basis. Parents do not be afraid on this task of sharing your Cath-olic faith with your children; start with the most important part, attend Mass, (physically or virtually); it is important that you join as well as your family with all your heart, say the responses, sing the songs; participate fully in every way. By doing this, it will facilitate the teaching of the weekly lesson to your child. For any questions about the RE program at St. Francis, email [email protected]. Read the bulletin regularly to keep up with RE and all other parish events.
