Thanksgiving Day Mass Schedule

Thursday, November 22, 2018

9:00 AM (St. Barbara); 9:30 AM (St. Mary); and 10:00 AM (Holy Child)

Our Annual Thanksgiving Tradition has been to help Little Sisters of the Poor stock their food pantry.
This year we will be collecting food for their “Wish List” (see list below) at all three Masses on Thanksgiving
Day at all three Churches. Bring your donations to the Mass you will be attending on Thanksgiving Day. All
donations will be used for the worthy causes of Little Sisters of the Poor, Pittsburgh.

The Eucharist Give Thanks
This coming week many of us will be bus-
ied about preparing a Thanksgiving meal
and gathering with family and loved ones
to share the gratitude of our hearts for the
many blessings we have received. While Thanksgiving
Day is celebrated as a national holiday by people of varied
backgrounds, as people of faith, our hearts and minds are
raised in prayer this day to the God who loves us and who
provides every good gift and grace for our lives. Yet, our
giving thanks to God for his blessings cannot be limited to
just one day. Instead, thanksgiving must be woven into our
daily lives. The word Eucharist means to give thanks. As
we gather to celebrate God’s love for us in the gift of His
Son’s Body and Blood, we give thanks from the depths of
our hearts for the ways he is constantly at work to nourish,
strengthen, enliven and inspire us. As Catholics, we enjoy
the celebrations of Thanksgiving Day and we are called to
work hard each day to form thankful hearts. And may our
gratitude to God be expressed in words and deeds that
strengthen our communities as we journey On Mission for
The Church Alive! Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn
more and to stay informed
Helping Hands will have decorated
Angel Trees at all three churches starting
Saturday, November 17,2018.
The trees will hold request for presents for
children at: CURA, Angels Place North Side
location, Angel Place Swissvale location, Boys and Girls
Club of Carnegie, Family Promise, and adults at Wash-
ington Commons and Amity Serenity Pines.
Help us spread the Christmas spirit by putting a smile on
our bothers and sisters with your special gift. Please take
one or maybe even two ornaments off of any of the trees,
then place your wrapped gift under the tree of the same
church. Also please attach the paper ornament to the gift
so we can identify who the gift is for. This is very im-
portant so that we deliver the gifts to the correct location.
Please return all wrapped gifts by Sun., December 9.
Any question on our Angel Tree or any event of Helping
Hands please contact Pam Fantoni at 4122763266 or
4126382306.

learn to use our churches automatic defibrillator. There is
no charge for the AED Training. There is a $40 charge if

note the day change from the bulletin November Calen-
dar. Any questions, please call Gary Liebel at 412498

Breakfast in Bethlehem: The celebration will be on
Saturday, December 1 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM in Holy
Child Religious Ed Building. Please RSVP by email
[email protected] or call 4122216514. Please
include the total number attending, including adults. Res-
ervation deadline is November 27. Free of charge thanks
to Holy Child Christian Mothers and Confirmation Stu-
dents. A good will donation will be accepted. See flyer.
Aging religious need your
help. Senior Catholic sisters, broth-
ers, and religious order priests minis-
tered for years for little to no pay.
Their sacrifices now leave their reli-
gious communities without adequate
retirement savings. Your gift to to-
day’s second collection for the Retirement Fund for Reli-
gious helps to provide medications, nursing care, and
more for tens of thousands of elderly religious. Please be
generous.
Senior Appreciation Dinner: The Columbiettes will
be hosting a Senior Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, De-
cember 8, 2018 at 1:30 PM in Holy Child Religious Ed-
ucation Building. All members of Holy Child, St. Bar-
bara and St. Mary faith community who have reached
their 65th birthday are invited and encouraged to attend
this special “thank you” event for all the ways you have
added to the life and spirit of this community. Please call
the Holy Child Parish Office at 4122215213 to register
for this event and to help us plan for the correct amount of
people. Deadline for reservations is November 30th.
Candlelight Mass: Join your friends and neighbors
for the monthly Candlelight Mass at Saint Stanislaus
Church in the Strip District. The next Mass will be on the
vigil of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, Sat-
urday, December 7, 2018 at 8:00 pm. Confessions and

A Family Perspective (by Bud Ozar): Today’s gospel taches us UNCERTAINTY is normal. There are some things
in life which “no one knows … only the Father”. Marriage and parenting are full of uncertainty for like the fig tree in the
gospel, the people we love grow and change.

From “none” to “nun”: Sister Mary Gianna never
imagined God would call her to religious life. She was not
raised Catholic, or any religion. After surviving the tragedy
that took the lives of twelve fellow students and one
teacher at Columbine High School in 1999, she came to
believe in God and that He had a plan for her life. Every-
one is welcome to come and listen to Sr. Mary Gianna on
Thursday, December 6 at 6:30 PM in Assumption
Church, Bellevue. (A free will offering will be taken.)
