27th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Sisters and Brothers, How blessed we are with this fall nature that gives itself to us for enjoyment. It is not hot and it is not cold, it is just right. The colors of trees are starting to change, the days are becoming shorter. With the virus so many things are changed this year. The school year for children and youth started with many challenges to what we consider normal or usual. Some

students go more to school, some less. Some do partially online classes, some only online. It is all very challenging for all parents and guardians, teachers and students. How blessed we are to have our family and our community stand by us, how blessed we are to share our blessings with each other and support each other in time of need and trouble. No one can stop those processes of change. We can see it happening in our own times, in front of our own eyes and one person is helpless to deal with it. As we can see it today, that Religion and Common Culture are in a constant war for the influence over peoples lives, and none of them is the sole shaping force in the world. It's a constant pressure of both, on the minds of peoples to go this or that way. On our own times we can see how difficult it is to defend the truth and right, taking the example of abortion as killing of our own children, where one may seem helpless to stand against the TRENDS of times. What remains for us today, is to try to be just and respectful towards each other, defending our fundamental rights to life and liberty. As Jesus said: that we will come to know the truth, and the truth will set us free. Free to live, free to love, free to believe. Only Jesus is the same always, his love never fails. As Apostle says: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever”. God’s love is eternal and all embracing. God makes everything possible to reach out to us all. His own Son - Jesus, offers himself as a remedy for our brokenness and sin. We are offered god’s love and friendship and the choice is ours. God already chose us, God loved us first and now is our time to love him in return. As we read the readings for this Sunday about the vineyard, we realize that we want to be a people that continue to produce good fruit in our lives. We do it by multiplying the blessings that were given to us by sharing them. I am impressed always by the generosity of those who love life and other people. We commit ourselves to work for a better world even here in Brentwood, where we have seen senseless violence and death, but above all we have seen so much good done by people of faith. I am here only 5 years, but some of you are much longer even 50 years and more, and talking to you or listening to the stories of Brentwood, we hear countless stories of: growth, development, celebration, sharing, service, fun, suffering and sorrows. All of it, a very real implementation of the Gospel with plenty of fruits and plenty of growth. Let’s make our contribution to it. Let's continue to reach out to others by enriching our spiritual lives, by enriching our culture, by promoting human values that help us to pursue the happiness, that the Lord promises to be ours in the Beatitudes. Queridas Hermanas y Hermanos, Cuan bendecidos somos con la naturaleza otoñal que se nos da para que la disfrutemos. No hace calor ni frio, está bien. Los colores de los árboles comienzan a cambiar, los días se acortan. Con el virus muchas cosas han cambiado este año. El año escolar para niños y jóvenes comenzó con muchos desafíos a lo que consideramos normal o habitual. Algunos estudiantes van más a la escuela, otros menos.

Algunos hacen las clases parcialmente en línea, algunos solo en línea. Todo es un gran desafío para todos los padres y tutores, maestros y estudiantes. Cuan bendecidos somos de que nuestra familia y nuestra comunidad nos apoyen, cuan bendecidos somos de compartir nuestras bendiciones entre nosotros y apoyarnos mutuamente en tiempos de necesidad y problemas. Nadie puede detener esos procesos de cambio. Podemos verlo sucediendo en nuestro propio tiempo, frente a nuestros propios ojos y una persona no puede hacer nada para lidiar con eso. Como podemos verlo hoy, la religión y la cultura común están en una guerra constante por la influencia sobre la vida de las personas, y ninguna de ellas es la única fuerza moldeadora en el mundo. Es una presión constante de ambos, en la mente de las personas, para que vayan de un lado a otro. En nuestro propio tiempo podemos ver lo difícil que es defender la verdad y el derecho, tomando el ejemplo del aborto como el asesinato de nuestros propios hijos, donde uno puede parecer impotente para oponerse a las TENDENCIAS de los tiempos. Lo que nos queda hoy es tratar de ser justos y respetuosos unos con otros, defendiendo nuestros derechos fundamentales a la vida y la libertad. Como dijo Jesús: que llegaremos a conocer la verdad y la verdad nos hará libres. Libre para vivir, libre para amar, libre para creer. Solo Jesús es así siempre, su amor nunca falla. Como dicen los Apóstoles: “Jesucristo es el mismo ayer, hoy y siempre”. El amor de Dios es eterno y abarca todo. Dios hace todo lo posible para llegar a todos nosotros. Su propio Hijo-Jesús, se ofrece a sí mismo como un remedio para nuestro quebrantamiento y pecado. Se nos ofrece el amor y la amistad de Dios y la elección es nuestra. Dios ya nos eligió, Dios nos amó primero y ahora es nuestro momento de amarlo a El a cambio. Al leer las lecturas de este Domingo sobre la viña, nos damos cuenta de que queremos ser pueblo que continúe produciendo buenos frutos en nuestras vidas. Lo hacemos multiplicando las bendiciones que se nos han dado al compartirlas. Siempre me impresiona la generosidad de los que aman la vida y los demás. Nos comprometemos a trabajar por un mundo mejor incluso aquí en Brentwood, donde hemos visto violencia y muerte sin sentido, pero sobre todo hemos visto tanto bien hecho por personas de fe. Yo estoy aquí solo 5 años, Marge tiene 13, pero algunos de ustedes tienen más de 50 años y hasta más, hablando con ustedes o escuchando las historias de Brentwood, escuchamos innumerables historias de: crecimiento, desarrollo, celebración, intercambio, servicio, diversión sufrimiento y penas. Todo, una implementación muy real del Evangelio con muchos frutos y mucho crecimiento. Hagamos nuestra contribución a ello. Sigamos acercándonos a los demás enriqueciendo nuestra vida espiritual, enriqueciendo nuestra cultura, promoviendo valores humanos que nos ayuden a perseguir la felicidad que el Señor promete ser nuestra en la Bienaventuranzas. XXVII DOMINGO ORDINARIO

El 30 de septiembre hemos celebrado la fiesta de S. Jerónimo, para cerrar nuestras “inoportunas sugerencias” acerca de la Biblia, queremos terminar con una frase atribuida a este santo:

“quien desconoce las Escrituras, desconoce a Jesucristo”

En mis manos tengo un interesante libro que recoge la historia de Jesús contada por Mt, Mc, Lc y Jn, veremos si en el futuro es posible tenerlo para que se nos facilite el conocimiento, al menos, acerca de los Evangelios; el libro es un “corte y pega” de los pasajes que cada evangelista narra a manera de secuencia

lógica, así no pasamos por el mismo lugar al hacer la lectura. Recuerden que S. Pedro no preguntará en el hall del cielo “cuántas fiestas a la Virgen celebraban en tu Parroquia”, sino “cuánto sabes de la vida de Jesús de Nazaret”.

El mes de octubre en la Iglesia estará dedicado a las Misiones en un contexto distinto al de otros años, digamos que por algún tiempo las cosas serán consideradas ‘post pandémicas’, podríamos pensar mejor que

es un “nuevo escenario”, confluyen a nuestro alrededor, también, otros aspectos (nuevo presidente, o quizá el mismo, un censo de personas, problemas migratorios, y muchas cosas más), y alguno se peguntará: ¿y todo eso que tiene que ver con la Iglesia y con las Misiones? Digamos que “todo tiene que ver” pues el

mismo Jesús “envió a sus discípulos a anunciar la Buena Noticia a los pobres” (cf. Lc 4,16-30), la gran pregunta debe ser “cómo cumplo yo ese mandato”, alguno podrá decir “dejémosle a los/as misioneros/as que lo hagan”. Ya tendremos tiempo de reflexión a cerca de la Misión durante este “mes de octubre que

todo lo descubre”.

! Nous aurons l’héritage !

Dans la première lecture le prophète Isaïe attribue à Dieu lui-même l’exercice du châtiment : le vigneron de la parabole d’Isaïe ne se contente pas de laisser faire le cours des choses ; c’est lui-même qui enlève la clôture et ouvre une brèche dans le mur pour que la vigne ne soit piétinée et dévorée par les animaux...

Le dimanche dernier, avec le prophète Ezéchiel, nous sommes à une étape de la pédagogie de Dieu. Avec Isaïe, nous sommes même avant Ezéchiel, donc à une époque où l’on dit volontiers que Dieu punit nos mauvaises actions ; à une époque surtout où on n’est pas débarrassé de l’idolâtrie : et donc pour le pro-

phète, il s’agit avant tout d’affirmer qu’il n’existe qu’une puissance au monde ; aucune autre divinité n’est à craindre. Dans tout ce qui nous arrive, c’est vers le Dieu d’Israël qu’il faut se tourner. Lui, le Saint d’Israël, est totalement étranger à toutes les bassesses et les injustices des hommes. Ceux-ci n’ont donc aucune chance de survie s’ils ne changent pas de vie.

Là Isaïe fait la grosse voix, pourrait-on dire, mais n’oublions pas que le même Isaïe, plus tard, quand il faudra remonter le moral des troupes, reprendra son chant de la vigne avec d’autres couplets : « Ce jour-là chantez la vigne délicieuse. Moi, le SEIGNEUR, j’en suis le gardien, à intervalles réguliers je l’arrose. De peur qu’on y fasse irruption, je la garde nuit et jour. Je ne suis plus en colère... » (Is 27,2-4a). Frères et sœurs vos actions seront récompensé quelque soit la direction vous y donnez. Dans la vie le poids de ce

que vous faites retomberont sur vous ou sur vos fils et filles. On n’apprécie pas ce qui est appréciable.

Aujourd'hui, nous contemplons le mystère du rejet de Dieu en général et plus précisément celui de Jésus.

La résistance réitérée des hommes face à l'amour de Dieu est surprenante. Cela dit, la parabole de ce jour concerne plus spécifiquement le rejet des juifs vis-à-vis de Jésus : « Finalement, il leur envoya son fils, en se disant : ‘Ils respecteront mon fils’. Mais, voyant le fils, les vignerons se dirent entre eux : ‘Voici l’héri-tier : allons-y ! Tuons-le, nous aurons l’héritage !’. Ils se saisirent de lui, le jetèrent hors de la vigne et le tuèrent. » (Mt 21,37-39) Ce n'est pas facile à comprendre : c'est parce que le Christ est venu sauver le monde et que les juifs attendent que leur "messie" à eux leur donne le pouvoir de dominer le monde.

Jésus est le juif le plus connu de toute l’histoire : aujourd'hui il est connu dans le monde entier, et cela fait deux mille ans qu'il est mort…Au fils du temps les grands personnages sont toujours respectés mais

ne sont plus aimés. Jésus est celui qui est le plus aimé de l'histoire. Hommes et femmes donnent la vie pour lui. Certains d'un seul coup par le martyre, d'autres "au compte-gouttes", en vivant uniquement pour lui. Il y en a des milliers et des milliers partout dans le monde.

Jésus est celui qui a eu le plus d'influence sur l'histoire. Les valeurs morales en vigueur partout sont d'ori-gine chrétienne. Non seulement ça, mais en plus, nous constatons de nos jours un rapprochement vers Jésus, y compris parmi les juifs, ("nos frères aînés dans la foi", comme dirait Jean-Paul II). Demandons à Dieu particulièrement pour la conversion des juifs, car une fois converti au catholicisme, ce peuple de grandes valeurs, serait bénéfique pour l'humanité entière.
