Passive UHF Based Document Tracking system Option 1
• Adhesive Labels put on document cartons/boxes • Scanning of RFID labels using Mobile RFID scanners • Fixed Gates positioned at main exit /entry points and Zone exit/entry points making zone level visibility • Tags on Racks to identify location • Application manages the put away and pick locations • Check in/Check out process can be automated to make the process faster.

• Faster check in/ check out • Low tag price • Document searches/retrieval can be conducted faster • Document locations can be managed easily • Higher visibility of where a document is at any point of time based on last scanned position
Passive UHF Based Document Tracking system Disadvantages
• Perpetual box locations not available.
• Certain level of manual intervention
Option 2 Passive UHF Readers and Antennas in Racks
• Boxes tagged with Adhesive labels. • RFID antennas will be put on all racks • Portal gates put at exit/entry points. Advantages • Perpetual box locations available with low tag price • Automation to higher level Disadvantage • High costs of hardware- average of 100 readers and 1575 antennas • Tedious installations of antennas and readers • Higher maintenance
Option 3 Active RFID Readers and Tags
• Boxes tagged active RFID tags • Active RFID antennas will be put at certain locations (average 8 readers) Advantages • Zone level box locations available • Automation to highest level • Faster processes without much manual intervention Disadvantage • High costs of tags- (but reusable) • To achieve accurate reading more number of readers required • Tag battery life time- average 3 years. • Higher maintenance
