HEADLINES The Green Goblin’s racing season has got off to a great start and on Monday

we presented the Red team with our first silverware. Congratulations to all the

children (and parents) who battled through such poor weather conditions.

My thanks to Mr Mansfield and Mr Izzard.

Mr Ceri Jones, Head at Caterham School gave an inspiring assembly on in-

tegrity, linking our 5 keys to success and happiness on Monday, thank you to

those who attended.

Year 3 have enjoyed a trip to Tunbridge Wells as part of their Geography cur-

riculum, please find more about their trip later in the newsletter.

The Early and Later Years’ Spring Songs have been great music events and

have entertained us so well. thank you in particular to Mrs Harrod for teach-

ing us the Penguin song! This event was supported by so many, thank you for

your hard work.

Year 5 visited Penshurst Place and had a wonderful time, a full write up will be included in next week’s newslet-

ter.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Mrs Kerry Thomas who will be our full time Year 1 class teacher here

at Rose Hill from September.

Our second Wellness Week is running from 7-10 May, thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be a

part of it. The timetable can be found below.

Finally a big thank you to all the parents who have donated to Baby Bundles this week, we have had a fantas-

tic response.

Rose Hill girls were in action for Tunbridge Wells Hockey Club last weekend at the U10 County Hockey tourna-

ment in Folkestone. The girls played 7 matches and came 5th in the group

stages. Harry S and Harry E were selected for the Tunbridge Wells Hockey

Club U10, they

were one of 16

teams competing

and won 2, drew

2, and lost 3.

YR 1 TRIP Our Year 1 Creative Curriculum topic this term is "Whizzing Along", covering all different types of

transport. On Friday 8th March, Year 1 children enjoyed an exciting trip to The Spa Valley Railway to sup-

port recent learning about trains. Steffan and Will, two young volunteers, showed us around the Engine

Shed and trains. We learnt so much about steam and diesel engines, as well as the incredibly lengthy pro-

cess of restoration so that these magnificent engines can once again transport passengers along the

Groombridge Line. The children particularly enjoyed looking at slam door carriages and inside the driver's

cab. Not only did we come away bursting with enthusiasm but it seems that we might well have a new

generation of excited Spa Valley Railway volunteers in our midst. Huge thanks to Steffan and Will for such a

fantastic morning!

Year 2 welcomed children from Bishop’s Down Primary School to join us in planting some silver birch sap-

lings to encourage growth, development and understand that the nurturing of our woodland is extremely

important. We were all very privileged to be joined by the knowledgeable Ron and Ben who demonstrated

best practise in this task. Fun, along with a sense of pride and well being was had by all! With time and pa-

tience we look forward to watching our saplings mature and thrive like we will do ourselves.

YR 2 IN THE WOODS

As part of our Geography topic learning about the local area, Year 3 visited the town centre to carry out

surveys and explore how the town has changed over time. Thank you to all our parent volunteers who

helped on the trip.

YR 3 TRIP VISIT TUNBRIDGE WELLS

RHS MOTORSPORT, HMS EXCELLENT, PORTSMOUTH

On Saturday, 12 nervous but excited members of Rose Hill Motorsport made the long journey down to

Portsmouth to take part in the first race event of the 2019 Goblin season.

Once again our cars were used as the training vehicles for scrutineer training so were checked over thor-

oughly but both the Red Devil and Blue Demon cars passed with flying colours.

The whole team dived straight into the racing and both cars performed really well in the first slalom event.

The track was soaking wet with very strong gusts of wind adding to the difficulty but all our drivers handled

the car well with only a few cones being nudged.

The drag race was into a head wind but despite this we were in the top 5 for most of the event. The final

sprint race after lunch saw the Blue Demon knocked out in the first round but the Red Devil progressed to

the semi-final. A thrilling race and very determined driving nearly saw us through, but we were unable to

make it to the final.

At prize giving we were delighted when the Red Devil team came third in the drag race – only 0.2s off the

winning car!

Rose Hill pupils again showed their resilience and determination in wild weather conditions. Well done to

the whole team.

MUSIC NEWS Group Recital Concert:

This Monday we have our Group Recital Concert. The different groups have worked very hard this term

and we are looking forward to sharing our music with you. Pre-Prep children should go home as normal

and return to the school for 5:30. The Prep School children involved will go to the Year 4 and 5 classrooms

at 4.15 where they will be able to complete some Prep before being fed at 5 ready for the concert at

5.30pm. The concert should last for around an hour. Please make sure that all instruments needed are

brought into school on Monday.

Thursday 28 March:

Please can all instrumentalists bring in their instruments on this day as we are taking official photographs

of the Music Department (String Quartet; Orchestra; Instrumental Group; Ukulele Group)

Trial Lessons:

Pupils who are yet to have their trial lessons on instruments will be having them in the next few weeks. Clari-

net and Saxophone will be next week and Harp the first week back after Easter. If there are any additional

pupils who would like a trial lesson then please get in touch.

Drum Lessons:

Our fantastic drum teacher, Matt Wilson has three spaces for drum pupils if any pupils are interested in

learning.

Practice:

Finally, thank you all for your support in helping your children to practice their instruments, I know first hand

what a juggle it can be sometimes! Please make sure all instruments are taken home and ideally practiced

over the long Easter break as it can set pupils back a little way with no practicing over a long period of

time.

MATCH REPORTS

Spring Term 2019, issue 10

Last weekend Rufus and I went to the British Interschool ski challenge in Pila with our club Kandahar (candy

bar). The competitors were a mixture of schools from England, Wales and Scotland but also international

schools, mostly from Switzerland. I competed against 55 boys in the U12 category and Rufus competed

against 33 boys in the U10 category. The first day we did the Giant Slalom (GS). The course was pretty sim-

ple apart from the fact that it was on quite a side angle so you had to get the pressure right on the turns. I

came 17th and Rufus came 11th. The Swiss covered the podium! Then we did the Slalom race the next

day. There were different courses for U10 and U12. My course was straighter but one section threw a lot of

people off as it was very icey. Fortunately I got 2 good runs in and my second run put me into 12th position

– I was very pleased! Rufus had a really strong run and got an amazing 2nd position. He was the only 2010

boy on the podium. Rose Hill came 26th out of 90 schools improving by 8 positions from last year.
