Shrimp, Kipper, Inia & Perch Levels This YMCA program provides the highest quality of early water experience for children 6-36 months. Four levels of profession will see our child through water adjustments and onto basic skills. Each child always accompanied by one parent. Classes may be combined based on enrollment.

Level 1: Shrimp Age 6-8 monthsLevel 2: Kipper Age 9-12 monthsLevel 3: Inia Age 13-18 monthsLevel 4: Perch Age 19-36 months

Level 1: Pike With Parent (Age: 3-5) This program offers children their first experience in the water without a parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, including: water propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety and pool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of various IFD's (instructional flotation devices). Classes may be combined based on enrollment.

Celebrate your birthday party, bar/bat mitzvah, group outings, or family reunions with us. Everybody in the pool! If you are looking for a splash-tastic time, the pool is available during open swim time as well as after hours. Lifeguards and a building supervisor will be provided. Several facilities also have inflatables available. Check for prices and availability. Restrictions may apply.

Level 1: Pike (Age: 3-5) This program offers children their first experience in the water without a parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocks of swimming, including: water propulsion, floating, body awareness and independence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety and pool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of various IFD's (instructional flotation devices). Classes maybe combined based on enrollment. Level 1: PIKE - The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel (Age: 3-5) Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray (Age: 3-5) In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learn front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish (Age: 3-5) In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to be able to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Goldfish Goldfish Program is for participants who need more individualized attention and practice time and has 3-to-1 ratio class. The class uses equipment appropriate for students needing extra support and assistance. Class instructors are trained Adaptive Aquatics instructors with experience working with and teaching mainstream, semi-private, and private classes for individuals with special needs.

Level I: Polliwog (Age: 6-12) This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy (Age: 6-12) In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Level 5: Flying Fish (Age: 6-12) In this class swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6: Shark (Age: 6-12) In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley. Prerequisite: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Junior Dolphins This class helps develop stroke technique. It is for the advanced swimmer who would like to continue with a swim program and are not currently interested in swim team, are contemplating joining a team, or are currently on a swim team and would like to swim between seasons to stay conditioned. Must be able to swim all swim strokes for a minimum of 200 yards, do flip turns, and tread water. Also includes water sports and games and a safety component. During the seventh week of the session we will host a mini meet between the 3 class offerings followed by a celebration party. The mini meet and celebration party is optional . Born To Move Age 4-5 An imaginative, explorative world of music and movement. This 30 minute class is tailored for age groups 4-5. Children at this stage respond best to stories, so special music is written for the class with lyrics that act as sung instructions and children are led through simple moves that build body awareness and balance.

Born To Move Age 8-12 In this 45 minute class, the teacher leads the class in a series of foundation fitness moves taken from dance, martial arts, plyometrics, sports training and yoga. It includes great music and games to keep things interesting while developing fitness skills.

Kids Yoga Age 6-12 This is an uplifting, noncompetitive, mind-expanding and fun way for kids to build strength, spirit and self-esteem. Registration is required. Space is limited.

Fitness Elmhurst YMCA

Fight Club Increase your speed, agility, and strength and prepare to sweat in this boot camp style interval training boxing class. Hand wraps not required, but highly recommended.

TRX TTH TRX is the suspension training system that utilizes full core strength to engage every muscle of the body. Our TRX classes vary to suit different levels and different needs. Use your core and TRX to elevate you to new fitness goals. Each class is 45 minutes. Times and days must be selected at time of registration. Due to small class, NO refunds will be given for TRX.

BODYCOMBAT™: This fiercely energetic program is inspired by martial arts and draws from a wide array of disciplines such as Karate, boxing, Taekwondo, Tai Chi and Muay Thai. Supported by driving music and powerful role model instructors strike, punch, kick and kata your way through calories to superior cardio fitness.

Y Cycle: A revolutionary stationary bike class which is set to music and simulates a real bike ride. This is a non-competitive, cardiovascular workout designed for all fitness levels.

Zumba®: A fusion of Latin inspired music and dance will find you dancing day, night, and calories away.

Combat Camp: Increase your speed, agility, and strength and prepare to sweat in this boot camp style BODYCOMBAT™. Supported by driving music and powerful role model instructors strike, punch, kick and kata your way through calories to superior cardio fitness.

Zumba® Toning: When it comes to body sculpting, Zumba® Toning raises the bar (or rather, the toning stick). Learn how to use lightweight, maraca-like Toning Sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all the target zones, including arms, abs and thighs.

All About the Ball: This is a strength training class that focuses on the CORE. You use the stability ball throughout the class.

BODYPUMP™: This 60-minute workout challenges all your major muscle groups by using the best weight-room exercises like squats, presses, lifts and curls. Great music, awesome instructors and your choice of weight inspire you to get the results you came for - and fast!

CXWORX™: Based on cutting-edge scientific research, this 30 minute workout will tone your stomach and tighten your butt, improving strength and assisting injury prevention. With awesome music, it'll help you run faster, play harder and stand stronger!

Pilates is a fitness routine that will increase strength and flexibility. You can expect improved posture, balance, and core strength.

PiYo Strength® is an up tempo, non-spiritual approach to mind/body exercise. This unique format combines Pilates, Yoga, Strength Training, Core Conditioning, Flexibility, and Dynamic Balance.

Yoga: Join us for flowing, controlled yoga moves; stringing poses together with deep breathing to experience a sense of well being and reawakening of the mind and body.

Forever Fit: A low impact class including cardiovascular and resistance training. A great class for seniors as well as those new to exercise.

Silver Sneakers® Classic: Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing and a SilverSneakers ball is alternated with low-impact aerobic choreography.

The Mixx: Come "mixx" up your fitness training each week. Each class is a mix of cardio and strength training; however, you will never know what the instructor has planned. Formats will include Drums Alive, Zumba Gold, Gentle Yoga, and much more!

Y Boot Camp: YMCA Boot Camp is designed for all abilities and combines calisthenics, short distance running/walking, resistance training, weight lifting and much more. Registration is required for 5am classes. Space is limited.

Aqua Zumba The Aqua Zumba program is the "pool party" workout for all ages. A workout that integrates the Zumba formula and philosophy onto traditional aqua fitness disciplines.

Aquafit Aqua Fitness: Our most popular class is Aqua Fitness. This class combines stretching and toning with a moderate cardiovascular workout and some strength training. Good for all ages and fitness levels.

Deep H2O Training Deep H2O Training: We use floatation devices to aid in a low-impact, total body workout that includes aerobics and muscle strengthening. Must be able to swim 25 yards.

H2O Sculpt H2O Sculpt is a high-level cardiovascular, strength training and muscle endurance classes. Not recommended for those with joint problems.

Twinges In The Hinges Plus Twinges in the Hinges: Arthritis Foundation/Y Aquatic Program (AFYAP): This class focuses on working out joint movement, muscle strengthening and flexibility with range of motion exercises.

Level 1: Young Adult Beginner Swim Lessons Age 13-16. This program follows the YMCA of the USA’s guidelines to swim lessons. There is a focus on five main points: personal growth, personal safety, stroke development, water sports & games, and rescue. Level 1: This is the beginning level for young adults and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. In this class you will learn to front and back float and tread water for 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive/standing dive.

Level I: Adult Beginner You’ve always wanted to learn how to swim. Now is the time to learn. This level focuses on the beginning swimmer. During this class, swimmers will be taught how to propel themselves in the water with little to no assistance on their front, back, and side.

Level 2: Adult Intermediate Perfect for the advanced beginner swimmer. This level is for swimmers who easily move through the water, but do not have a defined form to their stroke or just want to improve their stroke. During this class swimmers will work on stroke form. They will learn breathing techniques and proper body positioning for the front crawl, elementary back stroke, back crawl, sidestroke and breaststroke.

Semi-Private Single start at age 3 and up. Minimum of 2 participants. This package includes 1 lesson that is 30-minutes in length. Participants must be at comparable levels. Note: we do not set up swim partners. Stop by the front desk for a semi-private request form. Be sure to include the name of the person/s that you are swimming with on the form.

Semi-Private Lessons start at age 3 and up. This package includes 6 lessons that are 30-minutes in length. Participants must be at comparable levels. Minimum of 2 participants. Note: we do not set up swim partners. Stop by the front desk for a semi-private lesson request form. Be sure to include the name of the person/s that you are swimming with.

Premium Lessons for ages 6-12. Design your own class - we will work with you to choose your time and day. Six 40-minute lessons. Participants must be at comparable levels. Minimum of 3/maximum of 5 participants. Pick up a participant request form at the front desk. Call the Aquatic Department for more details.
