By Ken McDowell Sports Editor Junior Bailey Walser will represent the Merino Lady Rams in the Class 2A State Track and Field Meet Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Jeffco Stadium in Denver. Walser will compete in 4 running events, including the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run, the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run. The top 18 in each event qualify for the state meet. Walser finished 17 th ranked in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.91; ninth in the 800-meter run at 2:25.72; 10 th in the 1600-meter run at 5:39.01 and seventh in the 3200-meter run at 12:34.22. Last year in the state meet Walser competed in the 1600-meter run where she placed 14 th and was 12 th in the 3200-meter run. Junior Jorden Jole of the Merino boy’s track and field team will compete in the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run. Jole ranked 13 th in the state in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.97; fifth in the 800-meter run at 2:00.40 and fourth in the 1600-meter run at 4:31.23. Last year in the state meet Jole was runner-up in the 1600-meter run and fourth in the 800-meter run. The Merino 4x800-meter relay team of Jole, junior Curtis Tappy, sophomore Logan Redabaugh and freshman Wyatt Barton will also compete at state. That team is ranked 10 th in the state with a time of 8:42.95. The annual Sterling High School (SHS) Softball Camp will be held May 27-29 at Mason Field at Pioneer Park. Times for the camp include 9:30- 11 a.m. for grades 4 th -8 th . The cost is $30 if registered by May 15 and $35 after May 15. A camp for pitchers will be at 9 a.m. for $10 more.
