Sgt. Gordon G. Hol tz lander , aged 19, son of M r . and M r s . C h a r l e s Holtzlander of 719 Kingsbury NW in Alpine Township, h a s been awarded the ArmyCommendat ion Medal with " V " device fo r he ro i sm in Vietnam.

Sgt. Hol tz lander , a f o r m e r s tudent at S p a r t a High School, Is now stat ioned at F o r t Hood, T e x a s , and won the medal f o r ac t ion l a s t Apri l when "wi th comple te d i s r e g a r d fo r h is own p e r s o n a l sa fe ty he exposed h imsel f to d raw enemy f i r e and locate the exac t p o s i t i o n " during a c o m b a t opera t ion n e a r Phy Bal .
