KENT Football Comstock Park The Comstock Park High School Panthers were defeated by Coopersville 6-0 last Friday night in their first Tri-River League encounter of the season. Members of the team are shown with head coach Don Hondorp on the right and Assistant Coach Bob Campbell on the left. They are as follows: (not in order given) Ken Broekema, BofeMoneybrake, Don Eldred, Dick Kienitz, Bill Pahl, Harv Klifman, Ron Kleis, Bob Mulvey, Gary Endree, Ken Vandenberg, Tom Fix. and Bill Reidt. Tri'River Teams Open Qrid Season Greenville, Rockford, Cedar Springs, and Coopersville chalk- ed up victories for first place in the Tri-River Conference Fri- day night in the league's first year as an 8-team circuit. Greenville and Coopersville are new to the conference this year. The Greenville club blanked Lowell 53-0 in the most surpris- ing development of the night. Rockford edged Sparta 7-2; Ce- dar Springs rolled over Belding 12-0 at Cedar Springs; and Coop- ersville downed Comstock Park 6-0 at Cooparsivlle. The Lions attempted to score but were unsuccessful after four downs of play. Kent City received the punt and carried to the 23-yard line. Runs by Dennis Emmons and Randy Martens, plus a pass to John Coronado brought the ball to the one-yard line. DaveCarew pushed the ball across for the only Eagle touchdown. The extra point conversion by Scott Ander- son put the Eagles ahead 7-0, Newaygo came back in the sec- ond quarter to score and the con- version tied the score 7-7, Late in the third quarter, the Lions scored on a 2-yard plunge. The victory went to the Lions with a score of 13-7, JUNIOR VARSITY Kent City- Casnovia Junior Varsity squad started their 1968 football season with a tie: Kent City 13, Newaygo 13. Captains for Kent City were pnane Roberts and Corky Mor- Rick Johnson made most of the tackles during the night. The two touchdowns made by Kent City were from Larry Thompson and Mortensen, With the help of Coach Gary Woodhull and Coach Rich Allington, the Eagles are hoping for a victory over White Cloud at "7:30 on Thursday evening. Kenowa Knights Defeated by Zeeland 26-7 Four second-half touchdowns rallied Zeeland to a 26-7 win over Kenowa Hills Friday night in Ottawa-Kent Blue Division ac- tion. The Kenowa Knights dominated the first half action and appeared close to an upset. They picked up 98 yards total offense in the first two quarters and seven first downs to Zeeland's totals of 45 and ^ After a scoreless first quarter, Kenowa, aided by a penalty, marched 60 yards early in the second period for its only touch- down. Halfback Mark Warber found the end zone on an 8- yard run around right end. Zeeland, picked by league coa- ches as the team to beat this fall, started displaying some offen- sive power when it scored twice within a minute and a half to sew up the contest early in the third quarter. Zeeland scored on a 49-yard march on Doug Barense's one-yard dive. On Kenowa Hills' next series of downs, punter Warber was tackled on his own 30 after a low pass from center. Quarter back Dirk Schrotenboer of Zee- land faded to pass on the first play, but after finding his receiv- ers covered, ran 29 yards around the left side to set up Barense's second score for a 13-7 advan- tage. Then, late in the third quarter, Zeeland got its third touch- down. Kenowa Hills gambled with a fake punt play at Zeeland's 42 which backfired. Zeeland took over and on the first play, Sch- rotenboer fired a long pass to junior end Mike Zylstra who car- ried the ball to the 4. Schro- tenboer scored two plays later on a left end sweep to give the Chix a 20-6 lead. Barense crossed the goal line for the third time with less than a minute remaining from two yards out for a final 20-7 score, Schrotenboer completed six of 12 passes for 101 yards wliile Keno- wa's Randy Miller completed the same number in 14 tries for 45 yards. On September 3, the s tudents of Kent Cl ty -Casnovia High School were welcomed back by o u r new pr inc ipa l , Mr . C a r l o s F lo r ldo . To the s tuden t ' s a m a z e -men t , al l the doors and r e g i s t e r s had been repainted f r o m the f o r -m e r l y " u g l y " brown to a beau-t i fu l sof t g reen .

Throughout the f i r s t week, the c l a s s e s and clubs caused much d i s rup t ion as It was n e c e s s a r y f o r them to meet and se t t le all old and new bus ines s .

The Student Council me t t h ree t i m e s during the f i r s t week to c l e a r up many m a t t e r s that had caused much d i s sa t i s fac t ion a -mong the s tudents .

The f i r s t i tem of b u s i n e s s was tha t of amending o u r cons t i -tut ion. It now s t a t e s that qua l i -f i ca t ions f o r holding an of f ice within the council a r e that you a r e a m e m b e r of the council at the t ime of e lec t ions o r have s e r v e d one year on the council p r e v i o u s to the e lec t ion . second amendment now r e a d s that the Student Council will nominate according to the con-st i tut ion qual i f icat ions and the s tudent body will vote on those cand ida tes . These amendments wil l go into ef fect th is coming sp r ing .

The Council a lso decided that a l l c l a s s e s and clubs who wish to build f loats for Homecoming wil l be put into competi t ion. The P . T . C . will judge the f loa ts and no p r i ze will be o f fe red o ther than recognit ion.

On the day of Homecoming, the s ix th hour will be e l iminated and a p a r a d e with the f loats ; band, and queen candidates will take place . The chee r l eade r s will lead the s tudent body In a snake dance behind the parade . After all of the exci tement the student body wil l p roceed to the football f ield f o r the solemn ce remony of the burn ing of " G r a n t " . To top th i s off, we will win the football g a m e f r o m Grant High School!
