Chris Dodd may call you about the following

1) Upgrading the screening room at the US Embassy in Japan Dodd has expressed interest in upgrading the screening rooms at key USEmbassies ndash the rationale being that key Ambassadors will keep UScultural interests top of mind as they screen American movies for highlevel officials where they are stationed For obvious reasons (and becauseof Nicolersquos longstanding relationship with Ambassador Kennedy) Doddthinks SPE would be best suited for Japan For context you should knowthis is not unusual and SPE supported a request of this kind many yearsago under Valenti other studios are being asked to support other USEmbassies (although I donrsquot know if anyone is moving forward) and thecost implication is estimated to be $165k (aggregate of $$$inshykind) perembassyper studio Apparently donations of this kind are permissible While the rationale behind this isnrsquot necessarily bad Irsquove been mindful ofbudget sensitivities and ndashaccordinglyshy havenrsquot encouraged the elevation ofthis proposal in the past

2) MPAA membership expansion for PAC contribution purposesFor legalstructural reasons the MPAA PAC can only solicit contributionsfrom senior MPA execs and the member companieshellip This means thatDodd finds himself routinely on the other side of an enormous number offundraising requests with roughly $50k a year to draw from Itrsquos notvetted yet but I think he wants to float a concept that would allow themembership to change in such a way to allow more individuals tocontribute to the MPA PAC (eg if there was some highshylevel producer orstudio exec as a ldquomemberrdquo of some sort then they could contributeindividually etc) Depending on the approach this would have FECimplications and labor relations implications ndash I think he understands thatbut really wants to gauge reactions from board in terms of exploringviability of this
