Somebody? Anybody?
There is a wonderful little story that appears in various forms and
with various titles. I like this version…
That’s Not My Job
This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody,
Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done
and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody
could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry
about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought
Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody
wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody
when Nobody did what Anybody could have.
In the life of faith, we believe God made Everybody capable of
doing a ministry of some sort. Nobody is capable of doing every-
thing. Anybody can make a difference in the life of Somebody.
Will Somebody do anything?
Some of the ministries are behind the scenes and administrative in
nature. Those who do them may be using their skills with numbers
or bricks and mortar to serve Christ. Some of the ministries are
relational in nature. Those who serve in this way will be touching
lives either here inside the church or building bridges to those be-
yond the walls of the church.
The questions are these:
If “everybody” is equipped by God for ministry, what are you
doing?
If you say “Somebody should do something,” will you be
“Somebody”?
If you won’t help will “anybody”?
If “Nobody” does it. Can we really be called the “BODY” of
Christ?
In the days to come, with Mission Fair, Ministry Surveys and Stew-
ardship, I hope you will hear the call to come and be someone who
