chzrity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges facing humanity

For orphaned children throughout the world,

OCTAVE Day of Christmas: Mary, The Holy Mother of God December 31, 2016 & January 1, 2017

Numbers 6:22-27 “The Lord bless you and keep you!”

Psalm 67 “May God bless us in his mercy.”

Galatians 4:4-7 We too are the sons and daughters of God.

Luke 2:16-21 Mary reflected on all these things in her heart.

The sacred scriptures we hear proclaimed today continue our celebration of the Christ-mas season. We still have shepherds, Mary, Joseph, and Jesus at the manger in Bethle-hem. The first reading recounts a very beautiful blessing from our ancient tradition and Saint Paul proclaims that we are adopted children of God through Jesus Christ. Let us ponder these readings today, reflecting on them in our heart.

Epiphany of the Lord’ January 7 & *, 2017

Isaiah 60 1-6

Psalm 72

Ephesians 3: 2-3a, 5-6

Matthew 2 1-12

(How does a parent survive the unthinkable? Breanna Fujimo-to, the beautiful daughter of Edwina Fujimoto was fatally in-

jured in an automobile accident last September. In the midst of her great sorrow, Edwina offers us her reflection on our

Blessed Mother.)

“Mary, Mother of God, was told a sword will pierce her heart and I think about how she had to watch her son be scourged, ridiculed throughout the streets carrying his cross and then

crucified...and I think of the apin in my heart...nothing com-pared to hers. That sword must have stabbed, twisted, shaken,

pulled out and stabbed again..

The pain in the hearts of moms and dads when they lose a child just doesn’t go away - - at least this is what other moms and dads have shared. I don’t like it but I don’t want to lose it ei-

ther. My pain is like nothing I’ve ever felt before and I’ve lost loved ones.

God would never hurt us so deeply if for nothing. Mary Hurt, but without her sorrow we would not have our salvation. I am thankful to have been blessed with Breanna for 21 years: the pain is worth it. The love and joy she filled me with is more than I can measure, even greater joy than the heart wrenching

pain I feel now.
