Basic dataIn the Italian context, are 4,570,317 the foreigners resident in Italy on 1 January 2011 (ISTAT, Popolazione straniera residente in Italia), 335 thousand more than the previous year (+7.9%). The increase is slightly lower than that recorded in 2009 (343 thousand units). To these values must be added other 400 thousand regularly present people but not yet registered. In addition to immigration contributes to this data the birth in Italy of children by foreign parents: in 2010 were 78082, as much as 13% of "born residents" in total. This situation pointed out some critical points of our production system and proved that immigrants contribution to the Italian market is essential.

The project"Equal-PromoCare",financedby the European Social Fundunder the EQUAL program,aims at promotingandregulating theentryofskilledforeign womeninto the labor market. It pointsto a more adequateprofessional development for immigrant womenwhowork inthe province ofTrento,in orderto limitthe negative effects of `double` discrimination as womenand asmigrants,to which theyare subject.
