Biography of Fr. Charles Vreeland Fr. Charles Vreeland was born and raised in the small German town of Freder-icksburg, TX in the Texas Hill Country. He is the son of Kevin & Victoria Vreeland and is the second of three children. Fr. Vreeland attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Fredericksburg, TX from Kindergarten through eighth grade, and graduated from Fredericksburg High School in 2001. Fr. Vreeland attended Texas A&M University from 2001 – 2005, and it was during his time at Texas A&M, and especially through his involvement at St. Mary’s Catholic Center in College Station, where he began to discern more seriously a vocation to the priesthood. As a junior at Texas A&M, Fr. Vreeland attended his first Latin (extraordinary form) Mass in October 2004 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Houston, TX. It was during this time that he began to discern a vocation to the priesthood with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, a society of priests established by St. John Paul II. In Decem-ber 2005, Fr. Vreeland graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Science in Ge-ography. Upon graduation, Fr. Vreeland attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary, for formation with the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter from 2006 – 2013. Fr. Vreeland was ordained a deacon on March 17, 2012 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary by his excellency, Alexander Sample, now Archbishop of Portland, OR. He was ordained a priest on June 1, 2013 at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln, NE by the Most Rev. James D. Conley, bishop of Lincoln, NE. For his first assignment after ordina-tion, Fr. Vreeland served as assistant administrator North American Martyrs Parish in Seattle, WA. After serving one year at North American Martyrs, Fr. Vreeland served as assistant administrator of St. John Vianney Chapel in Maple Hill, Kansas. In the summer of 2015, after two years as an FSSP priest, Fr. Vreeland was re-ceived by Bishop Strickland as a priest of the Tyler, and was incardinated as a perma-nent member of the diocese in the summer of 2016. For the last four years Fr. Vree-land served as chaplain of Bishop Gorman Catholic School in Tyler, also teaching the-ology to seniors and freshmen. He has also spent the last four years assisting the Cathedral Parish with Sunday Masses. In January 2018, Fr. Vreeland was named chaplain of St. John Paul II Catholic Campus Ministry, which serves the students of UT Tyler and Tyler Junior College. Fr. Vreeland is very happy to now be serving as a parish priest at Mary Queen of Heaven in Malakoff. He will also be assisting Fr. Lowry at St. Edward’s in Athens.

The St. Philip Institute will be holding a Catechist Formation Day on August 17th from 9 am to 6 pm at Bishop TK Gorman and Sts. Peter and Paul Chapel for Mass following the training. Catechists, priests, deacons, DREs, and teachers are encour-aged to attend. The cost is $10 which includes lunch. (Scholarships are available if needed.) The cut-off date to regis-ter is August 14th.
