Du Fu (712–770) was a prominent Chinese poet during the Tang Dynasty. Du Fu's thatched cottage, Du Fu Caotang, was the former residence of the poet's retreat in Tang dynasty. In the winter of 759, Du Fu moved to Sichuan to take refuge. There he built a thatched hut along the bank of the Huanhua Stream. He stayed there for 3 years and 9 months where he composed more than 240 poems. Many of the poems written had the cottage as the subject. Wenshu Monastery, is the best-preserved Buddhist temple in Chengdu.

Parcul unde se află acum coliba lui Du Fu datează din două epoci distincte: dinastia Ming şi dinastia Qing
Mănăstirea Wenshu (Manjushri) sau Budha al Înţelepciunii este principalul templu budist al sectei Zen (Chan) şi cel mai mare templu budist din Chengdu
Înfiinţată în timpul dinastiei Sui (605-617) a fost reconstruită în anul 1691
Are cinci temple principale, o academie budistă şi bibliotecă
Pagoda mănăstirii se numeşte Pagoda celor o mie de Budha
