As we plan for the future, such an increase is necessary if we are to continue the services and programs that we offer. The support of the National Shrine parish members is very generous and truly appreciated. However, every couple of years increased costs and inflation catch up with us. The last time we formally asked all parish members to adjust their support level was 14 years ago. Please reflect carefully on your level of support and whether it is possible to offer a bit more to your parish at this time. Please pray for the success of this endeavor, especially that those of our parish who do not regularly contribute will begin to accept their share of the responsibility for enabling the National Shrine to continue in its mission of worship, education and service. I know that there are many of our parishioners who care deeply about our parish and who will support it to the best of their ability. We thank you for this and look forward to your response to our Appeal at this time. A generous response will help us to plan for the next couple of years with security and confidence. Please review the material you receive and use the commitment envelope mailed to you. You may also wish to consider using Faith Direct, the direct deposit program for regular Sunday offering and special collections. I use this method personally and find it very convenient. November 18, 2012 Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Parish Contribution
Over the past two weeks, the Finance Council of
the National Shrine of the Little Flower and I have
attempted to contact all registered parishioners
through a personal letter asking for your increased
support for the parish. As we plan for the future,
such an increase is necessary if we are to continue
the services and programs that we offer. The
support of the National Shrine parish members is
very generous and truly appreciated. However,
every couple of years increased costs and inflation
catch up with us. The last time we formally asked all
parish members to adjust their support level was 14
years ago.
Please reflect carefully on your level of support
and whether it is possible to offer a bit more to your
parish at this time. Please pray for the success of this
endeavor, especially that those of our parish who
do not regularly contribute will begin to accept their
share of the responsibility for enabling the National
Shrine to continue in its mission of worship,
education and service.
I know that there are many of our parishioners
who care deeply about our parish and who will
support it to the best of their ability. We thank you
for this and look forward to your response to our
Appeal at this time. A generous response will help
us to plan for the next couple of years with security
and confidence.
Please review the material you receive and use
the commitment envelope mailed to you. You may
also wish to consider using Faith Direct, the direct
deposit program for regular Sunday offering and
special collections. I use this method personally and

Advent Giving Projects
It’s time to get ready for the Advent Season when we prepare our
hearts and homes to welcome Jesus in the many ways He presents
Himself to us. One of those ways is to serve those in great need.
The first part of our Giving tree collection is to ask you to purchase a NEW BOOK
for a child, ages 2 through 18. These will become part of a gift package prepared
by the Ladies of Charity, Catholic women who serve those in great need. Some of
the 900 families are served through the Jail Ministry, Catholic Social Services and the
Pontiac area parishes. We will collect NEW, unwrapped story books in a box in
Heritage Hall until Sunday, December 2. We will also have a collection box near the
Giving Tree in church and in Heritage Hall. The books will be collected after the
Masses and secured.
1000 pairs of new tube Socks for the Jail Ministry are needed by December 9.
Collection bins are in the vestibules, or socks may be dropped off at the office
during the week. Thanks very much!
Our Giving Tree invites you to make a generous cash or check donation to help
many of our core city Catholic ministries for children, the homeless, and the elderly
in need. Families who eat at the Soup Kitchens receive help, too.
New Gift Cards are also appreciated by many of those projects that request our
help. Checks may be written to Shrine Giving Tree and dropped in the collection or
at the parish office. Truly it is more blessed to give than to receive. Every sacrifice
you make will be given with prayer and love to those in need of the hope and
peace of Christmas.

TAIZE
Evening Prayer with Music from Taize at Shrine Monday, November 19 and each month's third Monday (usually)
at 7:30 pm.
A contemplative offering of the Liturgy of the Hours accompanied by meditative music in the tradition of the
Taize religious community.
More on Taize: www.taize.fr
Upcoming time-change on December 17 TAIZE, we will start at 7:00 pm as a special start
time followed by Advent communal reconciliation services.
Many who attend the Shrine's Taize offering attest to the spiritual benefits of this monthly hour spent in prayer and
song; do please spread the word and plan to attend. It's our desire to see the number increase who benefit from
this contemplative liturgy.
On an ongoing basis, we collect a freewill offering to be directed toward one of the many charitable projects
supported by the Shrine Christian Service Commission; past projects have included the South Oakland Warming
Center and the St. Vincent de Paul Dental Clinic Project.
