Rewa works n the expanson south of the cty, budng a compex that conssts of 550 apartments and w nd ts fument ony n 1982.Sponsored by the DDA (Deh Deveopment Authorty) the Shekh Sara s structured accordng to current reguatons that am to sef-housng resdenta as we as to compance wth technca standards set. DESIGNINPIRA3ION : From the desgn pont of vew, the organzaton of the budng bocks of the composton, nd connectons wth the hstorca reates of the ctes of Ra|asthan, |asamer and Udapur, that characterzed the urban fabrc of Inda and whch are dstngushed by the densty of the town and for the cose reatonshp between open and cosed spaces.4ARIOUS ASPEC3SO5 DESIGN: URBAN 5ABRIC : Coo shadows and ar currents are but nto the gran of the cty of |asamer and are exceent demonstraton of the achevement of ow rse, hgh densty deveopment.The sense of encosure and contnuty of movement s mantaned throughout the ctes. In Shekh sara housng pro|ect , the perphera roads are connected to parkng squares. The centra spne of the ayout s reserved for narrow ,shaded, pedestran pathways . The ayout pans foow tradtona methods of creatng shade and cross ventaton.S3REE3S : The narrow shaded streets of |asamer generate movement patterns fu of fun, peasure and surprse. The pans Shekh sara s based on smar narrow shaded streets nkng a varety of custers.The streets are broken up nto sma unts, so there are pauses , ponts of rest and changng vstas.CLUS3ERS : Ra| Rewa desgned hs housng schemes at Shekh Sara as a seres of dstrct custers whch are nter reated.The budngs are uned by means of smar faade treatment, usng sandstone grt render, the percng of parapets, proportons of doors, deep set wndows, and stone ankng was for the courtyard.ROO53ERRACES : Prvate roof terraces and courtyards are an ntegra desgn component of the housng for the Shekh Sara compex.Inner courtyard Streets n Shekh Sara CompexDESIGNDE3AILS : An mportant aspect of ths souton s the pattern of nterreated squares of an ntmate scae that has been created. Whe there s a cear demarcaton between pedestran and vehcuar spaces wthn these, the movement of peope wthn the encosures has been cosey agned wth the access ponts for vehces on the perphery. The scae of the varous squares has been ad|usted to encourage and to serve dherent communty actvtes.A the unts have been provded wth a courtyard or roof top terrace, the wa or parapets of whch have narrow sts (|as) ensurng both prvacy and good ventaton. Athough the structure s of renforced concrete posts and beams, the was are of brck n covered wth roughcast paster.Ths s customary for economca mass housng n the regon, and aows for some modcaton by the users.URBAN SCAPE-At ste eve, The archtect deveoped the pro|ect by empoyng urban strateges of artcuated ows, segregated spaces and apped the same on the ste eve, Resutng n a structured urban settement . 3ARGE3 AUDIENCE-Ahordabe Housng but for medum and ow ncome Groups (M.I.G=annua ncome - 4000$-16000 $) COMMUNI36 SPACES- Fosterng shared spaces for the communty by creatng ntmate courtyards connected to each other, representng the tradtona eements of Indan Archtecture. The scae of these courtyards hasbeen Manpuated towardsncreased soca actvtes and nteracton amongst the resdent communty, servng as soca factators. A55ORDABILI36-A new nanca scheme was deveoped forths partcuar case whchheped subsdze the housng unts for the users. In the Sef-Fnancng-scheme, the aottees had to pay n 5 nstaments overthe perod of the constructon phase. Ths aowed the housng authorty to create mx of unts and make the pro|ect more economcay vabe. -The use of ocay avaabe matera was ntrnsc to the nature of pro|ect and to further brng down the cost of the pro|ect. The structure comprsed of concrete posts and beams wth n brck was covered wth rough cast paster. The man type (B2) comprses 4 oors and conssts of the foowng envronments: - Lvng area, overookng 2 fronts - Servce areas and ktchen - Seepng area - Terraces. Each oor has one apartment, except for the top two oors of the reevance of a |ust accommodaton.
