Hello 4-H Families, Believe it or not but registrations will be opening soon for summer activities like 4-H Camp, Discovery Days and Campference. We don’t want you to miss out on anything so read the Chatterbox closely and if you have questions about an opportunity call us! I hope many of our older youth will apply to be camp counselors for 4-H camp this year. Our dates to camp are June 14 th -17 th and counselors go up on the 13th for counselor training. You can apply to be a camp counselor even if you did not attend camp when you were younger. Everyone has a co-counselor so we pair new counselors with youth who have experience. Youth that are in 8 th -12 th grade can apply to be a counselor and first preference is given to youth is 9 th -12 th grade. The application is online this year. I will have a link ready for that shortly! March is also a good time to go check your 4-H projects before our May 1 st deadline for enrollment. You can join 4-H at any time during the year but if you want to take a project to the fair you must be enrolled in that project on May 1 st . Please remember that going to project meetings do not put you in that project. You have to add them on your 4-H online profile. Because of the program fee I encourage families to enroll now. If you are paying by check you are not fully enrolled until that check has been processed at the State 4-H office. That means if you enroll a week before May 1st but pay by check you still may not be enrolled by the deadline. Do yourself a favor, take care or this today! Thank you for being a part of Shawnee County 4-H! -Candis Register for Regional Club Days If you received a Top Purple or Top Blue at County Club Days you are eligible to go to Regional Club Days. The link for that sign up is at: hps://www.johnson.k-state.edu/4-h/events-programs/club-days.html That link will go live at noon on March 1st and it will close on 9am on Tuesday March 5th. At that time top purples who have not signed up will have a time as- signed. Regional Club Days is March 9th at Wheatride Middle School in Gardner Kansas. Shawnee County will also need some room monitors. So if you are going please sign up to help with our two rooms. Thanks!

We had a number of Auburn 4-H Club members participate in Shawnee
County 4-H Club Days. There were many different individual projects
and also group projects including a skit and a gavel games team. The
skit featured Disney villains who went to the county fair and were
convinced to join 4-H rather than destroying it. The Gavel Games team
featured five Disney Villains who ran their own 4-H club in their quest
to be villains.

Entomology
Bugs! Are you looking for an excuse to be outside? Are you fascinated by the creepy-crawly side of the world? The Entomology project is for you! We have classes for pinned insect display boxes, photography notebooks, and educational displays. There is room for beginners through advanced youth and it can be just for fun or highly competitive. As the county project leader for Entomology, my goal is to help youth and parents learn about the pro-ject, then set and meet goals that work for them. Project leader Bryan Boutz is available to help you get started. Email [email protected] or call/text 785-317-0839.
