SHAPE.NET was created back in 2002 to fill a need in the fitness industry for a comprehensive software

that would service all areas of any given fitness business. The owner Larry King spoke to as many people

as he could in the industry to find out what they needed in software to help them more efficiently run

their business. The answers that he received were his jumping off point in the creation of SHAPE.NET. It

doesn’t end there however, SHAPE.NET and Larry King in particular listens to our clients, and if there is a

feature or functionality that SHAPE.NET doesn’t currently have that fills a need that a client has, Larry

will build it into the system. In 2009 Larry and SHAPE.NET implemented 11 updates (of numerous

features at each time) to the system based on client input. All updates are immediate for all users of

SHAPE.NET, and are done so at no additional charge.

Larry also realized that having a web based system would be highly beneficial to the industry, and would

allow clubs to offer member web access for purposes of purchasing packages, scheduling training

sessions, tracking fitness assessments, and paying their bills. This was a very bold move back in 2002, as

most people were still using dial up at the time. Larry stuck to his guns, and today, the companies that

laughed at him then, are scrambling to catch up to the system that Larry has perfected.

SHAPE.NET is much more than a personal training or facility management software. It is an invaluable

administrative and revenue generating tool. To a good majority of our clients, our software is NOT an

expense, as the system pays for itself on a monthly basis, with the time that it saves, the money that it

saves, and the money that you are able to generate using the tools within SHAPE.NET.

SHAPE.NET handles:

Sales and Prospecting: Non members have the ability to login to your clubs member web page, and

purchase memberships and training packages- leads are delivered to your email, and are created in the

system for your sales staff to act on.

Mass Marketing: Your sales staff and other personnel can follow a lead from prospect through

membership, with the ability to generate mass emails, and mass text messages. Prospects can be

followed up on, and noted in the system, and will alert when the next contact should be made.

Scheduling: Members can schedule classes and personal training sessions online if you choose to allow

them to. No tying up phone lines or staff members to schedule classes or sessions- allows them to focus

on the business at hand- keeping your members happy.

Trainer Access: Allows trainers to access the system from home or from their PDA- ability to update

their availability, check on scheduled sessions, run reports, update member’s fitness assessments, and

more.

EFT: The ability to control your scheduled payments, and batch your EFT when you want. With some of

the lowest rates in the industry (approx 2%) and the ability to accept echecks (ACH) for .25 per

transaction no matter how large the transaction is. YOU control how much you pay in processing fees.

Buddy Training Packages: Allows multiple members to share a training package- more people using a

package, means package runs out quicker, and means more packages being purchased. Also makes

training packages more affordable for more members.

Comprehensive Reporting: Ability to generate numerous reports for purposes of marketing, retention,

membership analysis, training activity, financial reports including the ability to track expenses, which can

be exported to Quickbooks, credit card expiration reports, referral reports to maximize advertising

dollars, Trainer and Employee payroll, Demographic reports to show where your customer base is in

terms of Age Group, City, Zip Code, and many other reports, too numerous to mention. We are also one

of the very few companies that will customize reports for you if there is a specific reporting need that

SHAPE.NET does not currently have.

Check-in: With Audio and Visual Alerts to warn of Open Balances, missed fitness assessments, account

freezes, birthdays, and others.

Pre-Paid Accounts: Allows members to purchase POS items without bringing money with them to the

club, and avoids additional credit card swipes to purchase inexpensive items such as waters or juices.

OR

Bill Member Later: which allows members to purchase POS items on credit to be paid for in one batch at

a later point in time.- Both options create a habit in the member to NOT bring water, juice, snack bars,

etc to the club with them because they can purchase them their very easily, which increases your POS

revenue.

Paperless System: SHAPE.NET gives you the ability to be a “Green” paperless facility. All legal

agreements can be uploaded into the software, and with an electronic signature pad, you can capture

your member’s signature and store all of your legal agreements electronically. Your members would

have a copy of all agreements signed on their member web page, as well as all receipts for

memberships, training packages, POS items that they can print out on their own. No more worrying

about where to store contracts and other legal agreements, and savings on office supplies such as ink,

toner and paper.

Member Web Access: Members have access to their own member web page where they can view

health and fitness articles, their 7 day training schedule, print out receipts, purchase training packages,

schedule classes and personal training sessions, track their own cardio and strength training workouts,

view fitness assessments with charts and graphs, view instructional exercise videos (pre-loaded or ones

that you create), and a feature called Virtual Workouts, which allows a trainer to prescribe a workout for

a member who may not be able to afford personal training, but still needs some guidance from a

professional to reach their fitness goals. You also have the ability to sell advertising on the member web

page in the form of click through ads to another website, which you are free to sell for whatever your

market will bear.

GUIDANCE TRAINING! Do you offer it? If not, you should!

Do yourself a favor, Google in quotes- “I need a personal trainer”, and see how many hits you get. Then Google in quotes-”I need a workout routine” and see how many hits you get. The point of this exercise- “There are more people looking for just a little bit of guidance in their workouts, than there are looking for personal trainers!”

Why should you care? Because these people are currently in your facility, and you are not meeting their needs!

These are the people who can’t afford a personal training package, but still want a little guidance to reach their goals. These are the people who sign up every year in January, see no results in February, and never come back again. You can keep them coming back to your facility by creating a package that guides them in their workout, and gives them the ability to see results, and track their progress toward goals.

Giving them "ACCESS" to gym equipment is NOT enough!
