SESSION 2: JOHARI WINDOW IN THIS SESSION Exploring the Johari Window as a model to both better know the innerworkings of the self and provide a grid for understanding God’s work of freeing people from sin and growing them in maturity KEY PASSAGES • Psalm 139:1314 13 For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows very well. • Romans 3:1012 10 As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; 11 no one understands; no one seeks for God. 12 All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” • 1 John 1:9 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. • 1 Peter 1:39 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. DISCUSS • With another person or in the group you’re in, draw the Johari Window (worksheet included in the downloadable content of Session 2) on a piece of paper begin writing down some thoughts in the Public Self, Hidden Self and Other Self boxes. Be honest with yourself and ask others (where appropriate) to be honest with you. What are some interesting things you find after performing this exercise? What might be significant about the things you discovered? • The Session talked about life experiences as being one of the main ways God shows us something about our Other Self box. Looking back, what life experiences can you identify that God used to “show you something” you would otherwise have never known? According to 1 Peter 1:39, what are the more difficult or painful of these experiences actually producing? Talk about some of your thoughts with those with whom you’re progressing through this Study. • Are there any areas of unconfessed sin in your life? James 5:16 urges Christ
