Country Quilterie The Country Quil-terie, 2783 Route 115, at Carriage House Square, Effort, PA 18330 has lots of excit-ing events planned for the month of June. Please join us for the Row By Row Ex-perience (a Shop Hop at participating stores throughout the USA and Canada), begin-ning June 21st through September 6th. It's free, and you can win prizes and collect each store's Row pattern (they're free, too)! If you complete a quilt, created from at least eight different 2016 rows, from eight different 2016 partici-pating shops, and you are the first to bring it into a participating shop, you will win twenty-five free fat quarters. (That's six and one-quarter yards of fabric!) If you use that shop's Row in your quilt, you will also win a bonus prize. Come in for your free pattern, see our Row and our exclusive fabric license plate. Visit other partic-
ipating shops, and pick up their fabric license plates. Each one is unique. Collect a bunch to create a fun project, or to decorate your sewing room wall. Be sure to visit the second floor Quilt Gallery, at the Coun-try Quilterie, to view our original design, one-of-a-kind hand-crafted quilts, loving-ly made from our first quality, 100% cotton fabrics, by our own talented quilt artisans,
right here in Effort, PA. While you're here, be sure to visit our second floor Clearance Section, with hun-dreds of beautiful fab-rics, on sale for $4.99 and $5.99 per yard, valued at up to $12.00 per yard. Our main floor is filled with thousands of the latest fabrics, from all the leading designers and man-ufacturers, and all at discount prices. We have the largest selec-tion of quilts and fab-rics in the Pocono's,
plus hundreds of books, patterns and quilting notions, plus quilted home and fashion accessories. The Country Quilterie is your one-stop Quilt and Fabric Superstore! In business for 29 years, we love our customers, and we reward each and ev-ery one of them with
our extra "Nice Per-son Discount" on all regular priced fabrics, books, patterns and notions. We've got fabrics in every theme and every category. Looking for military, patriotic, civil war or 1930's fabric? We've got it. Want to make a quilt with a specific sport, profes-
sion or hobby theme? We have them all. Flo-rals, flannels, batiks, landscape, baby & juvenile, southwest-ern, beach & coastal, blenders, holdidays, dogs & cats, wildlife contemporary and tra-ditional fabrics with hundreds to choose from, in each category. Our Quilting Acad-

Page 5quarter expected costs to decrease. One rea-son may be that warm-er global temperatures and a significant de-crease in natural gas and oil prices have led Americans to be less concerned about heat-ing costs. • Emergency fund fail. The survey also found that 23 percent of homeowners have
no savings set aside to cover the cost of an emergency home repair. Of those home-owners who do have money set aside, 43 percent have $1,000 or less. This can be cause for concern, consid-ering the disparity between reality and expectations of home-owners on matters of emergency home re-pairs. Sixty-nine per-cent of homeowners thought it unlikely
they would experience a major home repair emergency in the next 12 months-but more than half reported having experienced one in the last 12 months.
Expert Advice “We find that many homeowners are still unaware that certain repairs aren’t covered by basic homeown-er’s insurance, which leaves them suscep-tible to the high costs of emergency home repairs they never ex-pected and often can’t afford,” explained Tom Rusin, CEO of HomeServe USA. F o r t u n a t e l y , HomeServe provides affordable, reliable
solutions for home-owners to help them avoid absorbing extra expenses. HomeServe protects homeowners against the expense and inconvenience of water, sewer, electri-cal, HVAC and other home emergencies by providing affordable coverage and quality local service. The HomeServe Biannual State of the Home Survey is a re-port on the financial effect of home repairs and energy use facing American homeown-ers.

of your green habits slide. Follow these tips to stay green during a time when you may be seeing red: 1. Save with Green Cleaning—Save monContinued on Page 7

Page 6 with DIY (do-it-your-self) cleaning prod-ucts; they’re both easy and cost effective. 2. Eco-Friendly De-cor—Sustainability in the home goes beyond lightbulbs. Pay atten-tion to fabrics-bamboo and organic cotton are two great options. Look for rugs made from recycled mate-rials and upcycle old
furniture by painting with milk paint. 3. Interior Paint—Traditional house paint emits volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can act as an irritant or cause more serious concerns. Lessen the risk by us-ing eco-friendly low-VOC and low-odor paints. Moving is the per-fect time for a fresh start. With a couple clicks at www.ca-
blemover.com you can schedule your cable high-speed Internet, digital cable TV and phone connections in advance for a has-
sle-free move day. Look for the custom-izable Moving Guide for tips on an efficient move.
(NAPSI)—There’s good news, bad news and better news for people who don’t like to clean out their gut-ters. The good news is, you won’t have to if you get any of the more than 40 different versions of gutter cov-ers around. The bad news is,
Avoid Gutter Cleaningcovered gutters are breeding grounds for mosquitoes and for nesting bees, wasps, even small rodents. Torrential rains can overwhelm the cov-er, causing ground erosion. The covered gutter can increase the chance for damaging winter ice-dams. The better news:
There is an alternative. The time-tested Rain-handler Rain Disper-sal System has a pat-ented louver design so gutters don’t collect leaves or debris and
require no cleaning or maintenance. Gen-tle, rain-sized drops spread out, away from your home. You’ll never have to climb a dangerous ladder to
clean gutters again. Learn More - Visit www.rainhandler.com or phone (800) 942-3004 for further infor-mation.

Brodhead Water-shed Association will again host its popu-lar Native Plant Sale, where every plant is a non-invasive species. Responsible gardeners seek out these plants that do not harm the local environment. The sale will be held Friday and Sat-urday, June 3-4, at Po-cono Township Fire Company’s “carnival building” on Route 611, Tannersville. The Friday sale,
Annual Native Plant Sale
which runs 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., is for BWA mem-bers only. Visitors can sign up for member-ship at the sale to get a 10% discount on plant purchases. Saturday’s sale is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Experts will be avail-able to offer advice on gardening, and how native plants make gardening easier on gardeners and the en-vironment. Native plants are
best adapted to the local climate, growing season, and soils. They often do not need as much watering, and they do not spread too much, as inva-sives do. Non-native plants may not pro-vide pollinators (such as bees and butterflies) with enough nectar or pollen. Replacing
invasives with native plants returns the en-vironment to a more natural state, where plants and wildlife evolved successfully together. For information, see brodheadwater-shed.org, call 570-839-1120 or email [email protected]. A list of the native
plants that will be for sale is posted on the
website.

Safe Haven Pet Res-cue is a small group of dedicated volunteers from the West End of the Poconos who save highly adoptable dogs from high kill and overcrowded shelters and finds them loving homes. Shelter kill-ing is the number one cause of dog deaths and Safe Haven has saved more than 800 lives so far. Safe Haven Rescue needs volunteers to help with adoption days, fundraising, transporting dogs to vets and groomers and fostering homeless dogs until they find their forever homes. Help save homeless dogs. "Saving one dog won't change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change for-ever." (NAPSI)—If you’re like most people, car safety and perfor-mance are important to you. But you might be surprised to hear that over 47 million vehicles have unfixed safety recalls—ve-hicles you might be sharing the road with or driving yourself. Alarmingly, fami-ly-oriented vehicles like SUVs and mini-vans are the least-often fixed. An auto recall usually occurs when the manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Admin-istration finds that a car has a defect or fails to meet federal safety standards. While repeated at-tempts are made to reach the owners, the stats suggest that peo-ple aren’t well-enough informed about re-calls, and may not

car. Fixing recalls helps maintain the safety and value of your car, makes roads safer, and is normally free. Plus, most recall fixes are completed in less than a day. Remember that only a manufacturer’s deal-er is authorized to fix recalls. If your car is recalled, call your lo-cal dealer immediate-ly. Learn more and sign up at www.mycarfax.com.
