So you want the lowdown on WSA?

For all you newcomers, welcome!

What We Are Western Student Association is the tra-ditional student government with a facelift. We are the “voice” of the stu-dent body & are not afraid to make it known. Our Cabinet, Senate, Allocations Com-mittee and Judicial Council work throughout the year as an advocate for all 25,000 students on WMU’s campus.

What We Do We address student concerns, answer questions, welcome suggestions and solve student problems. We are the outlet for student’s to freely express their concerns about anything concerning WMU. From academics to housing, landscaping to administration, WSA is here to improve student life at WMU.

Who We Serve At WSA, student’s come first and foremost, as we are an advocate for both their interests and

concerns. We are a body made by students, for the students. As we are popularly elected, we serve the students to the best of our ability. At all times, WSA attempts to serve the greater student body

through transparency, cooperation and collaboration.

answers

You’ve got questions? WSA has

Q: What is a resolution? How does it work?

A: A resolution is a piece of WSA legislation that when passed, is consid-ered to be the voice of all 25,000 students of Western Michigan Univer-sity. Each resolution is voted on by the Student Senate, which consists of the President’s Cabinet, College Senators and RSO Senators. Resolutions are often passed on to WMU administration as suggestions for action on an issue.

Bronco Pride,

Senators and students, As many of you WMU veterans such as myself have noticed, WMU has been going through some big changes in the past few years. A Medical School, con-struction of an entirely new Sangren Hall, a Bernhard Center facelift and the addition of a gigantic water mammal that graces the front lawn of the Haenicke Institute are all products of one year. The 2010-2011 academic year was one big Operation Historic Moment. Western is doing big things & so are its students. Although I often poke fun at the behemoth cetacean in front of Haenicke, the proactive change at Western is astounding. Think back at what was accomplished here in only one year and imagine this year’s possibilities. Better yet, write them down, make goals– set the bar high and overcome it. As students, we are a part of WMU history in the making. As Broncos, we need to be the change now that we hope to see in this University. Stand up, speak out and lead now. There is no better time to find growth in yourself, than while growing with your University.

The place is Western Michigan University, the time is now. Be the change.
