I encourage all members, kids to seniors, who are around on Sunday, September 10, to participate in God’s Work. Our Hands. The morning begins at 8:30 a.m. with a brief worship service, and then everyone will be dismissed to begin working on several service projects, both at Trinity and out in the community. There are projects for everyone: making sack lunches for Seneca workers, tying fleece blankets for Camp Noah, putting together care packages for our military, college students, cleaning up ditches and the city’s rain gardens, washing windows at St. Luke’s, making thank you cards for military personnel and service workers - these are just some of the many projects to choose from.

You may sign up for a project at Trinity – the lists are on the bulletin

board just outside the church office. If you don’t get a chance to sign up for a specific project before the 10th, you can fill in where needed on that Sunday. At the conclusion of the projects (at 11:30), there will be a meal at the Trinity Fair Stand. God’s Work. Our Hands T-shirts are still available for $10. Please come -- even if you don’t have a T-shirt and would rather not purchase one! Many hands are needed to make this day a success! Come to church on September 10, at 8:30am, wearing your work clothes, and be ready to help our neighbors, near and far.

I’m looking forward to a fun and rewarding day!

Peace & Blessings, Renee Beattie, Council President

Sept 17 – Beginning of

Sunday School classes at

9:30 a.m.! Bibles will be presented to Nursery & 3rd Grade students during the 8:30 and 10:45 worship services. Teachers will be Installed during the worship services on September 17th.

Doctoral Diaries Nobody panic! There is a game plan. That was emphasized to my doctoral class as we finished our on-site residency in June. Before we left the seminary grounds we had charted what work was being asked of us to complete the Doctorate of Ministry in Biblical Preaching in timeline form, beginning with our graduation date in 2019 and working backwards. We made a chart. A plan. And now it the time to follow the game plan. There are assignments (such as preaching a sermon without notes and reflection papers from June classes) and then there is (cue ominous music) the thesis proposal due in January. My thesis proposal will lay out a topic of study related to preaching, my goals for research and what project I will develop to study my topic further. It is a work in progress, but the starting

whistle has blown and I know and feel like I am in a doctoral program with much work ahead. Since the Doctorate of Ministry in Biblical Preaching is a contextual program you will be hearing, seeing and experiencing more too at Trinity. Please feel free to ask me about my studies and my research topic as we travel into the months ahead. Pastor Jeanette Bidne

I remember the back to school shopping trips. The sparkling white tennis shoes. The new pair or two of jeans. And who could forget the array of pencils, folders and notebooks? A different color notebook for each school subject was my system for many, many years. The memories make me smile. I don’t know about you, but there was always a sense of excitement about the new things to come in the fall months and this year is no different. Beginning in September, we will begin the Narrative Lectionary in Sunday worship. This means we will focus on just one main reading as a theme and emphasis in each worship service. A chance to hear stories spoken and preached upon that often aren’t encountered. We will begin in the Old Testament and as Advent nears learn about the prophets. Come Christmas, we will have the readings of Jesus birth and we will then travel through the Gospel of John. Holy Week and Easter are celebrated with readings of Jesus’ last week and then we will learn about the early Church. I invite you be open to what this experience in worship together can be for you and to also be open to what new thing God may be calling you to this fall. Would you like to invite someone to join in our adventure through the Bible?

Is there something that comes to mind in our faith community that needs tending? What needs to do you see in the community and what gifts does Trinity have to tend them? Where have you seen God’s presence and activity? As of August 15th, I have served as your pastor for one whole year! Woohoo! I am thankful to be here. Thankful for the grace you have shown as I continue to learn names and faces. Thankful for your willingness to learn with me through my doctoral studies and together as we worship and serve. Thankful for the journey that we are on together to be followers of Jesus. Fall will bring new things. What new things? I am not sure but I am sure, that for us, as followers of Jesus, that God will do a new thing with us in our faith lives and with our spiritual muscles. It’s how God works and as we travel through the Narrative Lectionary we will discover God has done it before. Thanks be to God! So if anyone is in Christ, there

is a new creation: everything old

has passed away; see, everything

has become new! – 2 Corinthians 5:17 United in Christ, Pastor Jeanette

Reformation 1517 – 2017 Martin Luther

It’s a dramatic image – the zealous monk, hammer in hand, nailing the 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. This single moment has caused October 31, 1517, to be regarded as the birthday of the Reformation. But what really happened?!? First, Luther was no radical or vandal. The Castle Church was where members of the University of Wittenberg worshiped. The door was commonly used as a bulletin board for faculty and students. The ’95 Theses’ were the lined items of Luther’s paper – written in Latin as a typical scholarly way of inviting debate on a particular subject.

Martin Luther wishes to reform various teachings, practices and structures of the Roman Catholic Church. He insisted that the central message of Christianity is the good news that sinners become reconciled to God by grace through faith because of the saving work of Jesus Christ. Due to the political climate, Martin Luther's actions had widespread repercussions influencing government, language, education, and how we worship. Join in our Reformation Events in October to learn more about this important time in our history!

Reformation Celebration and

Fellowship with St. Peter and

Paul Catholic Church

November 8th 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

In light of the Reformation Anniversary, to celebrate our unity as Christians and the unique gifts different denominations offer, join us for a fellowship event November 8th, 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. with Father Klein and members of Saints

Peter and Paul Catholic Church. A time of history, learning, music and fun. Tentatively scheduled to take place at Trinity. Watch for more details in our October Newsletter.

Let’s Do Lunch! Many shut-ins look forward to receiving Meals on Wheels in Blue Earth. Trinity, along with several other churches, deliver noon meals

for one week – every five weeks –

to many local friends. For these folks, a warm greeting, a short conversation, good company and a hot meal are happily anticipated. The delivery route is determined by the number of stops to be made. United Hospital provides the routes and meals, and we provide delivery of them. Right now we are in need of people to fill the delivery needs. Delivering goes quicker if two people are involved – a driver and a ‘runner’. If you would like to donate about an hour once every five weeks, please contact Ruthy Johnson 526-5937. We has some people who are only available in the summer and those who are available year round. Whenever you are available, your service is appreciated! Ruthy Johnson
