Dalam kancah seni rupa kita
yang makin kompleks, Komunitas
Salihara memilih wilayah hulu. Kami
menyadari bahwa pastilah ada cara
lain untuk melengkapi pendidikan
seni rupa yang memang sudah
terbukti ampuh dalam memacu
pertumbuhan seni rupa. Yaitu
cara yang lebih langsung dalam
menjaring bakat-bakat mutakhir.
Untuk itulah kami
menyelenggarakan Kompetisi
Karya Trimatra secara tiga tahunan
sejak 2013. Dengan ini pula kami
mencari pengertian baru yang
lebih luas daripada seni patung
seraya menggarisbawahi watak
transdisipliner dari seni rupa.
Para pemenang Kompetisi yang
pertama adalah Faisal Habibi, Budi
Adi Nugroho dan Octora Chan.
Sebagaimana kita tahu, kiprah
mereka kini sangat menonjol di
kancah nasional dan internasional.
Sebagai bagian dari Kompetisi,
kami mengupayakan residensi di
luar negeri untuk para pemenang.
Kami percaya bahwa residensi
demikian adalah cara yang
sangat baik bagi seniman yang
bersangkutan untuk berkembang
lebih lanjut, mengasah diri dalam
berbagai gagasan dan bentuk
kontemporer, serta menempatkan
diri dalam pergaulan global.
Para pemenang Kompetisi
Karya Trimatra yang kedua (2016)
adalah Suryo Herlambang, Reza
Zefanya Mulia dan Ajeng Martia
Saputri. Sebagai kelanjutan dari
kemenangan itu, Suryo telah
melakukan residensi di Pickers'
Hut di Glaziers Bay (Tasmania,
Australia), adapun Reza dan Ajeng
di Tentacles Art Space (Bangkok).
Karya-karya yang sedang
anda tatap di Galeri Salihara
sekarang adalah karya-karya
yang mereka hasilkan selama
residensi tersebut dan juga
karya-karya yang kait-mengait
dengan kontribusi mereka untuk
Kompetisi Karya Trimatra.

Art is a long process, connecting
components from upstream to
downstream. If the downstream
region involves the reception of art by
the masses, then the upstream region
involves the education and cultivation
of young talents. If the downstream
region is populated by art markets
and museums, then the upstream is
comprised of every effort to sow and
nurture the seeds of new art.
In our increasingly complex art
world, Komunitas Salihara has
chosen to be part of the upstream.
We believe that there is a way
to create a comprehensive art
education infrastructure that can
help accelerate the growth of art as
a whole—one of which is by directly
drawing in or attracting new and
emerging talents.
This is the rationale behind
our three-yearly Kompetisi Karya
Trimatra, which began in 2013.
Through this event, we are seeking
new and greater understanding about
three-dimensional art forms outside
of sculptures, while highlighting the
transdisciplinary character of art
itself. The inaugural competition in
2013 produced three outstanding
winners: Faisal Habibi, Budi Adi
Nugroho and Octora Chan. As we
know, they have now made a name for
themselves at home and abroad.
To augment the competition
program, we endeavor to provide
overseas residency opportunities
for the winners. We believe that such
programs are the best opportunities for
these new artists to develop further,
to immerse and refine themselves
through exposure to a variety of
contemporary forms and ideas, and to
situate themselves in a global network.
Winners of the second Competition
are Suryo Herlambang, Reza Zefanya
Mulia, and Ajeng Martia Saputri.
Following their wins, Suryo went to
complete his residency at Pickers’ Hut
at Glaziers Bay, Tasmania (Australia),
while Reza and Ajeng both went to
Tentacles Art Space (Bangkok).
Works that you will encounter at
Salihara Gallery are those created
during their respective residency
periods, alongside works that have
been created in relation to their
Competition submissions.
We convey our deepest appreciation

Selama dua bulan masa residensi, selain berkarya, para perupa juga
melakukan sosialisasi, survei, mengunjungi galeri, museum, komunitas,
mengadakan pameran dan agenda lainnya. Program seperti ini sebenarnya
telah dilaksanakan sejak Kompetisi Karya Trimatra Salihara pertama pada
2013, ketika itu residensi berlangsung di Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik
(ZK/U), Berlin, Jerman. Kami yakin program residensi akan menjadi katalisator
yang dapat mempercepat proses para perupa muda menuju cita-citanya.

Suryo Herlambang pemenang
pertama yang mendapat
kesempatan residensi di Tasmania,
Australia, adalah seorang arsitek
muda yang berminat pada banyak
hal. Dalam pameran ini, Suryo
mengembangkan tema “perjalanan”,
gagasan yang tumbuh dan
berkembang lebih lanjut setelah
mengikuti program residensi.
Perjalanan ke Tasmania memberi
pengalaman baru bagi Suryo,
terutama faktor-faktor sosial,
kultur, bahasa, alam, lingkungan
dan lain sebagainya yang serba
berbeda dengan Indonesia. Di dalam
kondisi itu, Suryo membayangkan
suasana asing yang dialami
Colombus dan orang-orang Eropa
pada masa lalu yang melakukan
perjalanan ke seluruh penjuru dunia.
Suryo membayangkan peristiwa
tersebut kurang lebih sama dengan
pengalaman psikologis yang ia alami
ketika menjejakkan kaki di Tasmania.
Suryo juga tertarik mengamati
perjalanan manusia masa kini.
Salah satunya adalah efek dari
perkembangan ekonomi suatu
negara sehingga memungkinkan
warganya melakukan perjalanan ke
pelbagai tempat atau lazim disebut
sebagai turis. Perpindahan manusia
dalam jumlah besar dari satu
tempat ke tempat lain, sekaligus
membawa sifat, karakter dan
perilaku dari tempat asalnya
adalah sebuah pemandangan yang
kontras. Dalam kaitan ini, Suryo
mengamati membeludaknya
turis-turis Cina ke Australia
yang membawa kebiasaan dan
perilaku mereka yang khas. Suryo
mengungkapkan fenomena itu
lewat karya The Tourist (2017). Karya berukuran 36 x 36 x 25,5
sentimeter itu menggambarkan
dua turis asal Cina yang tengah
serius mengamati sesuatu. Suryo
menangkap karakter kedua wajah
turis dalam karya itu dengan data
yang lengkap, mulai dari sepatu,
warna pakaian, model rambut,
mata hingga gerak-geriknya.
Kemampuan Suryo membangun
karakter diperlihatkan pula
pada sejumlah karya lain. Lihat
misalnya The Messengers (2017)
yang menampilkan karakter
wajah menyerupai sosok dari
suku Aborigin. Atau The Fall (2017)
karakter Homo Sapiens yang
dibuat berdasarkan kekuatan
imajinasi dan keterampilan
Suryo membentuk dan menafsir
rupa. Suryo bahkan mampu

membangun karakter yang
dramatik dalam Waiting (2017).
Ekspresi pasrah dan gestur pada
karya ini memperlihatkan sebuah
keterampilan yang tinggi.
Reza Zefanya Mulia dan Ajeng Martia Saputri masing-masing juara
II dan III mendapat kesempatan
residensi di Bangkok, Thailand.
Zefanya, lulusan dari bidang
pendidikan, Universitas Negeri
Jakarta (IKIP), mengajukan dua
karya konseptual. Pertama adalah
karya berdasarkan pengamatan
atas paradoks perilaku pengunjung
dan tata tertib di ruang pamer.
Konsep ini memang lebih pada
persoalan edukasi dan apresiasi
masyarakat terhadap karya seni
rupa. Pengamatan yang sejak
lama dilakukan oleh Zefanya
adalah ketika ruang pamer lebih
menjadi obyek swafoto ketimbang
apresiasi. Dalam kaitan ini, Zefanya
juga mewawancarai pihak Galeri
Nasional Indonesia yang membuat
program khusus bagaimana menjadi
apresiator yang baik.
Kedua, karya Zefanya bertolak
dari fenomena apropriasi di masa
kini, ketika masyarakat dibanjiri oleh
barang-barang dan merek-merek
yang menyiratkan status sosial
dan ekonomi. Bersamaan dengan
itu, ditengarai ada dua model
seni rupa yang hidup dalam
masyarakat. Dalam teori Sanento
Yuliman, hal itu disebut sebagai
Seni Rupa Atas dan Seni Rupa
Bawah. Seni Rupa Atas hidup
di kalangan masyarakat yang
sosial ekonominya berada di
tingkat atas dan mengkonsumsi
barang-barang berkualitas
tinggi, bermerek serta mahal.
Sebaliknya masyarakat dengan
tingkat sosial dan ekonomi bawah,
mengkonsumsi barang-barang
berkualitas rendah, tapi meniru
dan menjiplak produk atas,
sehingga seolah-olah mereka ada
di kelas yang sama.
Karya Bootlegging the Bootleg (2017) yang berupa media
campuran, benda temuan dan
benda jadi, mendapat inspirasi
dari keseharian di kota Bangkok,
tempat di mana segala merek
produk terkenal dipalsukan.
Berdasarkan pengalaman
selama di kota tersebut, Zefanya
menemukan ada apropriasi
yang berlangsung bolak-balik.
Zefanya melihat peniruan tidak
hanya dilakukan oleh mereka

yang berbasis seni rupa bawah,
tapi masyarakat pada level
seni rupa atas juga mengambil
idiom masyarakat bawah dan
mengembangkannya menjadi produk
yang populer di tengah masyarakat.
Sedangkan Ajeng, memaknai
perjalanan sebagai upaya negosiasi
dengan sesuatu yang asing. Sebab
bagi Ajeng, dunia di luar dirinya
adalah sebuah ancaman yang harus
ditundukkan atau setidak-tidaknya
dijinakkan. Ketika di Bangkok, Ajeng
menemukan lingkungan dan bahasa
sehari-hari yang asing dan tidak ia
mengerti. Di satu sisi, irama bahasa
dan percakapan asing itu menjadi
semacam teror sehari-hari, tapi di sisi
lain menjadi inspirasi untuk berkarya.
Ajeng menampilkan Lost in
Translation (2017), karya dari media
campuran yang dibuat ketika
residensi di Bangkok. Sementara di
Jakarta ia membuat karya 947,116,
800 Heartbeats (since 1992) (2018)
dari media campuran. Bait-bait puisi
dan pakaian transparan bersalut
resin bening adalah suasana
paradoks antara ingin membuka
diri dan benteng pertahanan diri.
Nada kurang lebih sama tampak
pada Dear God, Please Keep Me Happy
(2018) dari media campuran.
Karya ini berupa instalasi
kuda-kudaan kecil terbuat dari
kayu, ditompangi oleh sosok
yang jauh lebih besar. Sebuah
gambar gagal proporsi, janggal,
tidak pantas dan memaksa demi
sebuah penampilan. Gagasan
yang sama dengan visualisasi
berbeda tampak pada Dear
God, Please Keep Me Safe (2018),
sebuah tempat tidur bayi yang
juga tidak proporsional dengan
obyek di dalamnya.
Ketiga perupa muda dengan
karakter karya beragam ini juga
berlatar pendidikan yang berbeda:
arsitektur, grafis dan pendidikan
seni rupa. Hal ini tidak seperti
para pemenang Kompetisi Karya
Trimatra Salihara pertama pada
2013 yang melulu berasal dari
pendidikan formal seni patung.
Pameran Setelah Residensi
Trimatra ini adalah proses edukasi
dan pembinaan oleh Komunitas
Salihara bagi perupa muda
berbakat yang siap menyongsong
pergaulan lebih luas di kancah
seni rupa.

As winners of Kompetisi Karya
Trimatra Salihara 2016, Suryo
Herlambang, Reza Zefanya Mulia
and Ajeng Martia Saputri, received
residency opportunities at The
Pickers’ Hut @ Glaziers Bay, Tasmania
(Australia)—with the support of the
Embassy of Australia in Indonesia,
and at Tentacles Art Space, Bangkok
(Thailand)—with the support of
Bureau of Planning and International
Cooperation of the Indonesian
Ministry of Education and Culture.
During their two-month residency
period, in addition to creating
artworks, they found time to socialize,
survey, visit galleries, museums
and local communities, organize
exhibitions, and so forth. We have
been offering residency programs to
competition winners since the first
Kompetisi Karya Trimatra Salihara in
2013; that year, residencies were held
at Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik
(ZK/U), Berlin (Germany). We are
convinced that residencies and
similar projects can act as positive
catalysts to propel these young
artists forward as they pursue their
goals and dreams.
First-place winner Suryo
Herlambang, who went to Tasmania,
Australia for his residency, is a
young architect with wide-ranging
interests. For the current exhibition,
he has worked to expand the theme
“perjalanan” (voyages), an idea that
grew out of his residency program and
which he has continued to explore since.
His journey to Tasmania provided
him with new experiences, especially
with regards to socio-cultural factors,
language, the natural world, living
environment, etc—everything was
different. Inspired by this, Suryo began
imagining the alien environment that
Columbus, and his fellow Europeans
of ages past, might have encountered
during their travels around the world.
He imagined that they would’ve
experienced a similar psychological
experience as he did when he first
arrived in Tasmania.
Suryo also observes contemporary
human voyages. Human travel occurs
due to, among others, a country's
economic development, which enables
a country's citizens to travel to many
different places as tourists. People
traveling in great numbers, inevitably
bringing with them their inherent
nature, characters, and behaviors,
create contrasting social landscapes.
In connection to this concept, Suryo
observed a large number of Chinese

tourists in Australia who brought
with them their distinctive habits and
behaviors. He expressed his take
of this phenomenon in The Tourist
(2017). Measuring 36 x 36 x 25.5
centimeters, it depicts two Chinese
tourists observing something with all
seriousness. Suryo's work captures
their characters completely, from
their shoes, color of their clothing,
their hairstyles, their eyes, to their
movements and gestures.
Suryo’s ability to build and
communicate a character can be seen
in his other works. The Messengers
(2017) that shows the visage of a
person of Aboriginal extraction. In The
Fall (2017) Suryo conveys the idea of
Homo sapiens, based on the strength
of his imagination and also skill in
creating and interpreting visuals/
forms. He is even able to present
such dramatic characters as the one
shown in Waiting (2017). Expressions
and gestures of ‘resignation’ is shown
clearly and skillfully, here.
Reza Zefanya Mulia and Ajeng
Martia Saputri, the second and third
winners respectively both embarked
on their residencies in Bangkok,
Thailand. Zefanya, an Art Education
graduate of State University of
Jakarta (UNJ/IKIP) put forth two
conceptual works. First, is a work
created based on his observations of
the paradox between the behaviors
of exhibition visitors and the
generally-accepted exhibition code
of conduct. The concept is certainly
based on the matter of art education
and appreciation of artworks. After
a long observation period, Zefanya
found that visitors to an exhibition
tend to treat exhibition spaces as
selfie-spaces rather than a space
for art appreciation. In connection to
this idea, he also interviewed staff
members of the National Gallery of
Indonesia for tips on how to be a good
and appreciative art audience.
His second work found its
inspiration in today's phenomena of
appropriation, as seen everywhere in
our living reality, where we are faced
with a deluge of things and brands
whose ownership or otherwise implies
a certain socio-economic status.
Alongside such a reality, there exists
two models of visual art, which Sanento
Yuliman called: High Art and Low Art.
High Art exists in a part of society that
enjoys a high socio-economic status,
who consumes branded, expensive,
high-quality goods. On the other hand,
the lower classes consume low-quality
goods that imitate and plagiarize
high-end products, so they may appear
to belong to the same class.
Bootlegging the Bootleg (2017,
mixed media, found objects and
ready-mades) is inspired by the
daily realities in Bangkok, a place
where everything from every brand
has a bootleg version. Based on his
experience, appropriation is actually
a two-way street. Imitation was not
done only by those of low-art loyalties;

high-art society also takes idioms
identifiable as part of the lower-
classes and develop them into trendy
or popular products.
Ajeng, meanwhile, interpret
‘journey’ as a person's attempt to
negotiate with something foreign or
alien. To Ajeng, the world outside the
Self is a challenge to be conquered
or at least managed (or subdued). In
Bangkok, she found herself entering
a foreign environment that speaks in
an equally foreign language. These
foreign rhythms and conversations,
on the one hand, felt like a daily
hurdle. On the other hand, they were
ripe creative opportunities and
sources of inspiration.
She created Lost in Translation
(2017, mixed media) during her
residency in Bangkok. In Jakarta, she
made 947,116, 800 Heartbeats (since
1992) (2018, mixed media). Poetic
stanzas and transparent clothing
coated in transparent resin present a
paradoxical atmosphere, a dilemma
between opening up oneself and
shoring up one's defenses. A similar
sense can be found in Dear God,
Please Keep Me Happy (2018, mixed
media), comprised of small wooden
horses carrying their much bigger
riders. This piece represents the
idea of failed proportions, of odd
proportions, even inappropriate or
coercive acts done in the name of
keeping up appearances. A similar
concept is presented with different
visuals, in Dear God, Please Keep Me
Safe (2018), showing a crib and a
disproportionate object inside it.
These three young artists,
with diverse artistic characters,
come from diverse education
backgrounds: architecture, graphics,
and art education respectively. In
contrast, all three winners of the
first competition in 2013 came from
a formal sculpture background. The
exhibition Setelah Residensi Trimatra
stands for Komunitas Salihara’s
contribution to the education and
nurturing of talented young artists,
so they will be better-equipped
to engage in greater and wider
associations in the art world.

Suryo Herlambang menjalani residensi
di The Pickers' Hut @ Glaziers Bay di
kota Hobart (Tasmania, Australia) yang
merupakan studio milik Matt Calvert,
seniman patung kontemporer asal Tasmania.
Pada awal residensi, ia melakukan studi
dan riset di kota Hobart dengan mengunjungi
tempat-tempat seperti Maritime Museum,
Allport Library, Contemporary Art Tasmania,
Moonah Art Centre, Colville Gallery, Bett
Gallery, Despard Gallery, University of
Tasmania dan tempat penting lainnya. Ia juga
mengunjungi studio seniman setempat yaitu
Michael Schlitz dan Studio Zsolt Faludi.
Proses berikutnya, selain mengobservasi
proses berkarya Matt Calvert, ia
mulai membuat sketsa-sketsa ide dan
kemungkinan untuk berkarya. Ia juga
mencari material baru dan bereksperimen
dengan bahan-bahan yang ada.
Dengan material hasil studi dan
eksplorasi tersebut, ia memutuskan untuk
menggunakan material Oven Baked Clay
dan menentukan sebuah tema yaitu The
Voyagers. Proses berkarya berlanjut
selama empat pekan dan berujung pada
sebuah pameran yang diselenggarakan di
Schmorgasbaag, Murray Street Hobart.
Pameran yang berlangsung selama tujuh
hari (02-09 Juni 2017) tersebut dibuka
dengan artist talk dan penampilan musik oleh
musisi setempat yaitu Tim Panaretos dan
Strangerstill.
Pekan terakhir berada Australia, ia
sempatkan untuk mengunjungi wilayah alam
di kota Tasmania. Ia juga menyempatkan diri
mengobservasi kesenian dan budaya di kota
Melbourne.

Saputri mendapatkan kesempatan
residensi di Tentacles Art Space Bangkok,
Thailand. Tempat yang didirikan oleh
Henry Tan pada 2014 ini berfokus pada
penyelenggaraan pameran reguler dan
program residensi bagi para praktisi
kreatif yang baru lahir.
Di awal residensi, kedua seniman
menceritakan bagaimana proses mereka
berkarya, dari sisi topik keseluruhan
hingga kecenderungan material. Mereka
juga mempresentasikan topik penelitian
yang akan mereka lakukan selama
berada di Bangkok.
Minggu berikutnya adalah periode riset
dan kerja. Proses ini merupakan riset
lapangan dan survei lingkungan di dalam
studio dan di sekitar kota Bangkok. Dalam
proses ini, kedua seniman dibantu oleh
asisten dari pihak Tentacles Art Space.
Kemudian proses residensi dilanjutkan
dengan tur lokal dan kunjungan studio.
Hal ini dilakukan agar kedua seniman
dapat mempelajari dan memahami lebih
dalam mengenai medan seni rupa di
kota Bangkok yang secara garis besar
memiliki kemiripan dengan medan seni
rupa di Indonesia.
Pada akhir residensi, tim Tentacles
Art Space membuat acara presentasi
serta pameran tunggal yang berjudul
Two Young Indonesian Artists at Tentacles.
Kedua seniman menampilkan karya-
karya terbaru mereka yang dikerjakan
sepanjang proses residensi.

The Pickers' Hut @

Suryo Herlambang’s residency took
place at The Pickers' Hut @ Glaziers
Bay in the city of Hobart, Tasmania
(Australia), owned by Matt Calvert, a
Tasmanian sculptor.
At the beginning of his residency,
he conducted studies and research
work in Hobart, visiting places like
the Maritime Museum, Allport Library,
Contemporary Art Tasmania, Moonah
Art Centre, Colville Gallery, Bett
Gallery, Despard Gallery, University
of Tasmania, etc. He also visited
studios of local artists like Michael
Schlitz and Zsolt Faludi.
Next, he observed Matt Calvert’s
creative process, which usually began
with sketches for his ideas and other
creative possibilities. He also sought
new materials and experimented with
existing ones.
Using his accumulated studies and
explorations, he chose oven-baked
clay as his creative material and The
Voyagers as his theme. His creative
process continued over four weeks,
and culminated in an exhibition at
Schmorgasbaag, Murray Street, Hobart.
This seven-day exhibition (2-9 June
2017) opened with an artist talk and a
performance by local musicians, Tim
Panaretos and Strangerstill.
At the end of his stay in Australia,
he found time to visit the natural
landscapes of Tasmania and to
observe the robust art and cultural
scene of Melbourne.

Martia Saputri completed their
residencies at Tentacles Art Space
Bangkok, Thailand. Established by
Henry Tan in 2014, the art space
focuses on organizing regular
exhibition programs and residency
programs for emerging creative
talents.
At the beginning of their
residencies, the two artists narrated
their artistic processes, from overall
topics to their chosen or favored
materials. They also presented
topics of the research they wished to
conduct in Bangkok.
The week that followed was
filled with research and related
work, involving field research, and
environmental surveys inside the
studio and also around Bangkok.
During this process, the two artists
received help from an assistant
attached to Tentacles Art Space.
The residency process continued
with local tours and studio visits. This
allowed the two artists to learn more
and have greater understanding of the
Bangkok art scene, which, in general,
is similar to the one in Indonesia.
At the end of their residency
period, the Tentacles Art Space team
crafted a presentation session and
exhibition, Two Young Indonesian
Artists at Tentacles, where the two
artists presented what they had made
throughout their residency program.

Salihara 2016. Ia mendalami dunia
seni patung sejak kuliah, diawali
dengan ketertarikan, mengikuti
kelas patung dan berbagai
lokakarya. Ia menyelesaikan dua
pendidikan sarjana di Jurusan
Arsitektur, Fakultas Teknik,
Universitas Khatolik Parahyangan
dan Jurusan Desain Komunikasi
Visual, Fakultas Seni Rupa dan
Desain, Institut Teknologi Bandung.
Suryo Herlambang tertarik dengan
bentuk-bentuk figuratif. Karya-
karyanya banyak terinspirasi dari
kehidupan keseharian, budaya seni
populer, cerita fiksi ilmiah, artefak
purbakala, gerakan seni modern
dan romantisme. Pada 2017, ia
mendapatkan kesempatan residensi
di The Pickers’ Hut @Glaziers Bay
yang merupakan studio milik Matt
Calvert, seniman patung kontemporer
asal Tasmania, Australia.

his works using a variety of
media—drawings, found objects, and
ready-mades. He is also interested in
pop culture and technology. In 2017,
he embarked on an artist-in-residency
program at Tentacles Art Space,
Bangkok, Thailand, leading to an
exhibition Two Young Indonesian Artists
at Tentacles (Tentacles Art Space,
Thailand, 2017).
Ajeng Martia Saputri is third place
winner of Kompetisi Karya Trimatra
Salihara 2016. She graduated from
the Art Program, Faculty of Art
and Design, Bandung Institute of
Technology in 2015. She continues to
participate in various group shows,
the most recent being 15x15x15 Mini
Art Project (Galeri Soemardja, Jakarta,
2017), All the Small Things (Qubicle
Centre, Jakarta, 2017) and Leisure
(Kolekt Space, Bandung, 2017).
Ajeng Martia Saputri’s works are
often inspired by personal matters.
In the beginning, she worked mainly
with paper, but have since moved to
explore fabrics, voices and noises,
resin, and wood. In 2017, she received a
residency opportunity at Tentacles Art
Space, Bangkok, Thailand, leading to an
exhibition Two Young Indonesian Artists
at Tentacles (Tentacles Art Space,
Thailand, 2017).
Suryo Herlambang is the
first-place winner of Kompetisi Karya
Trimatra Salihara 2016. He has been
involved in sculpture since he was
still in college, where he participated
in sculpture classes and workshops.
He graduated from the Architecture
Department, Engineering Faculty,
Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, as
well as the Visual Communication
Design Department, Faculty of Art
and Design, Bandung Institute of
Technology (ITB).
Suryo Herlambang is drawn to
figurative forms. His works take their
inspiration mostly from daily life,
pop art and culture, science fiction
stories, ancient artifacts, modern
art and Romanticism. In 2017, he
embarked on a residency program
at The Pickers’ Hut @ Glaziers Bay,
owned by Matt Calvert, a Tasmania-
based contemporary sculptor.
Reza Zefanya Mulia is second-place
winner of Kompetisi Karya Trimatra
Salihara 2016. He graduated with a
degree in Art Education from State
University of Jakarta, Faculty of
Languages and Art. He actively
participates in exhibitions, the latest
being Biennale Jatim #7 World is a
Hoax (Galeri Prabangkara, Surabaya,
2017) and Black Market Bali (YOKII
Studio, Bali, 2017).
